Samba4 alpha17 seems to lose users
Hi, I deployed the packaged version of samba4 and set it up as described in the samba4 HOWTO. I made a snapshot that seems to work very well: MSFT tools, kinit, dns etc. are all working as expected. Package: samba4-alpha17 + Bind 9.8.3 OS: Ubuntu Server 11.10 HW: ESXi 5.0 VM However, when I let samba4 run idle overnight and try to log in on a windows machine as the domain admin, the MSFT

samba documentation error
Hello I found an issue with samba documentation on the website and in the source archive. The document states to use "-B" with winbindd. There is not a "-B" option for winbindd... I think it was intended to be "-D" ? [root@server source]# /usr/local/samba/sbin/winbindd -B Invalid option -B: unknown option Usage: winbindd [-?] [-?SFDinV] [-?|--help] [--usage]

Windows 2000 workstations can't open Excel files on Samba-2.2.7(a?) after "ServicePack-ing 4" on them.
Hi, Samba-friends I am not very deep in Samba *file* services, so please bear with me. The network admins of my employer alarmed me (being the local "Linux Guy") with this problem: * they run a 2-node fileserver cluster, based on RedHat (version?) with a Samba version announcing itself "2.2.7-security-rollout" or similar. * Samba runs in a chrooted environment. what happened to smbclient?
I noticed lots of smbclient options are missing in Samba 3.0.14a when compared to 3.0.13 - notably, all user/authentication options - so I can't connect now as a specified user anymore. Is it just my build, or is it "official"? Samba 3.0.14a: # smbclient --usage Usage: [-?] [-?|--help] [--usage] [-R|--name-resolve NAME-RESOLVE-ORDER] [-M|--message HOST] [-I|--ip-address IP]

Updated from 2.2.8a to 3.0b3 gives smbtar newer failure
Hi all, Situation: We use smbtar for backups, incrementals done using -N <last date file>, and this has worked well with samba 2.2.x After upgrading to 3.0b3, using the -N (newer) option to smbtar causes a bad interaction with smbclient. Eg,: # smbtar -s PC -x Share -u User -p Pwd -d / -t - -N last-backup -v gives (if you print out the eval at the end of smbtar script): eval

Bash completion thrown by quoted option args?
There was a thread about C7 bash completion back in August last year, but it doesn't have answers for this problem. Example: "yum install /path/to/local/package" works fine with tab completion to fill in the path and package bits. However, "yum --debuglevel="1" install ..." just gets stuck and doesn't offer anything. The only option is to type everything

cant login with my samba password only with my linux password
Hello, I have a strange problem with my samba server. When I try to connect with my (Windows)client and samba ask for the password, it's only accepting my linux-user password, not my samba-user password (set with smbpasswd and as root with smbpasswd <user>). And now the strange about it. When i change my sambapassword with smbpasswd, and try to login from my client, then the samba-user
