tar - ssh - standard out
Hi
I have a process that creates 'some data' and outputs this to standard
out and i want to shift this data over ssh to a remote box without
ever writing anything locally. I have been experimenting with tar to
create the archive as the i dont know what the contents of 'some data'
might be so i just need to capture it and output it on the other side.
I have been trying with

file changed as we read it
Hi,
I'm experiencing a problem that existed in gluster 3.7. When I
creating a (large) tar archive of brand new files I get a lot of
'file changed as we read it'. Further attempts to create archives
from the same source work without error messages.
Googling about this I found bug reports for 3.7 and other sites

RPM help
Hello,
My installation of clamav is hosed up. It won't start due to a malformed
database.
I ran freshclam and updated the database but still have the problem.
I was going to uninstall clamav but there are other app dependencies.
Virtualmin is one.
How can I do an uninstall/re-install without hosing more stuff up?
I have found some examples, --nodeps, --replacepkgs and

Hungarian codepage problem using smbmount
Dear Samba Developers, Dear Urban,
This was my original letter. I hope you get it correctly this time.
Maybe it was too big, now I reduced the size of this letter.
My goal is to make a Linux fileserver up and running with automatic
archiving functionality in a mixed Windows 2000 - Linux network and
since the beginning of February I could not solve my problem, so I
write to you hoping that you

Confusion about account locking policy (Samba AD/Windows 7 client)
I can do some playing around:
a) I have set a GPO for lockout at '10' invalid attempts (the rest of
the password options set as on Samba DC), forced the 'gpupdate', and
left the Samba rules set to '5' (checked on both DCs). But still I get
locked out after 3 invalid attempts.
b) I have set the Samba rules to '10' (or '15') invalid attempts and get

rsync of STDIN to a file.
Hi,
I am hoping that rsync may be able to improve an existing network backup I've got:
tar czf - --files-from $FILE_LIST | ssh -i $AUTH -l $USER $HOST "cat > ${DEST}/${SOURCE}_${FILE}.tgz"
You can see that this backup uses tar to create a single compressed archive and store it on a remote host using ssh. It occurred to me that it might be possible to use rsync. I'm hoping

Clearing account lockout
I recently am migrating my PDC from NT4 to Samba 3.025. Apparently due to a
mismatch between the capitalization of the Windows account and the Unix
account (Administrator vs administrator) I managed to lock the account
before catching the discrepenacy.

Confusion about account locking policy (Samba AD/Windows 7 client)
I just can't reply to your question as I have not this information. I don't
know how Samba works, I've got feelings about how it works : )
And as my MS world knowledge is just worst, I can't rely on it to tell you
how Windows generate its passwords policy.
How I think it works is:
you configure password policy using samba-tool
samba modifies the default domain policy (not tested,

Confusion about account locking policy (Samba AD/Windows 7 client)
As far as I understand Samba and the wiki in this regard, the Samba4
DC's password policy is no typical domain policy (no GPO). It can't be
inherited by Windows clients. So I suspect the full story to be:
- on the Unix side (DC and member server) the Samba password rules apply
- on the Windows client side the inherited Windows POLICIES apply (as
far as possible)
In effect, if e.g.

Account lockout
Hi,
I have just upgraded our Samba 4.1 AD servers to 4.2.2. Our AD was
previously run on win2k3 and had configuration for account lockout after
3 bad passwords. This lockout obviously did not work after migration to 4.1
After the upgrade to 4.2.2 the lockout started working again, almost as
expected.
The current settings are

Can't get password policies (bad lockout attempt) to work on Samaba 3 + OpenLDAP
Hi,
I have a Debian stable (woody aka 3.0) machine. I am moving my
existing samba 2.x installation (that has users stored in smbpasswd)
to samba 3.0.4 with LDAP as the backend. I am able to move the users
to LDAP just fine. However, the password policy of bad lockout
attempt does not seem to work.
I installed the samba deb file from the samab.org site. I also have
