Centos+AD integration (uid/gid problems)
Hi,
I need to have several EL machines in an AD env.
Joining the machines was easier than expected using authconfig, but what
happens now is that blahdomain\blahuser gets assigned a
different, random ID each time I use a different station.
In AD I did specify the UID and GID in the UNIX Attributes tab for blahuser,
but it gets totally ignored; so do the other values (for home, shell etc).

awstats, webalizer or...
So what does everyone out there use to generate web statistics these
days? Are the tried and true awstats or webalizer still the best out
there?

Any SELinux gurus around?
Hey all, I'm having some trouble getting PHP5 w/ CentOS 5 to connect to
a remote MySQL server using the standard mysql_connect() call.
Yes, MySQL libraries are installed along with php-mysql...
The only way I can get it to work is to run setenforce Permissive,
otherwise the connection fails.
The annoying thing is that nothing at all shows up in my
/var/log/messages file describing why

Intel 320 as ZIL?
Are any of you using the Intel 320 as ZIL? It''s MLC based, but I
understand its wear and performance characteristics can be bumped up
significantly by increasing the overprovisioning to 20% (dropping
usable capacity to 80%).
Anyone have experience with this?

uid and gid from unix to unix
Server: Samba 3.0.14a on Debian 3.1 stable with kernel 2.6.8.1
Client smbclient 3.0.7 on Mandrake 10.1
Problem: Share is mounted (by smbmount) with uid's and gid's values from
Debian server. So user have no proper rights to catalogues in mounted
shares on his local machine.
Question: How to make uid and gid "mapping" from unix to unix?
Exemplary: User john has uid=502 and

Retrieving UNIX UID/GID directly through Active Directory
Hi, there's a bug on bugzilla.samba.org that I'd like to comment on but it's
not letting me.
It's bug #242, titled "Retrieving UNIX UID/GID directly through Active
Directory from schema extension"
The person who posted the request talks about using AD4Unix, but I've
installed Microsoft's Services for Unix and it made similar schema changes.
Specifically, it

Unable to allocate dma memory for extra SGL
Hi all;
We have a Solaris 10 U9 x86 instance running on Silicon Mechanics /
SuperMicro hardware.
Occasionally under high load (ZFS scrub for example), the box becomes
non-responsive (it continues to respond to ping but nothing else works
-- not even the local console). Our only solution is to hard reset
after which everything comes up normally.
Logs are showing the following:

Quick questions about uid, gid, uidNumber, gidNumber
Hi.
I'm trying to fix a mistake I made: I installed an AD-DC, with the
functions of a file server.
To solve this problem, I installed a new Samba in a Ubuntu box and
configured it as defined in
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_Samba_as_a_Domain_Member. This
would work as a file server. However, I now understand (a little more) the
confusion among all these attributes like uid,

I have copied the user files from *server 1* to *server 2*
/owner id/ and /group id/s are preserved.
on server 1, when is do: *id user1*
I get *2001*
but on server 2
the same user has different id.
This is actual for groups as well i.e different id's.
*smb.conf*s are identical

UID and GID mapping throw DC and Member DC
Correct me if I'm wrong?
You say that by RSAT and NIS I add a uid and gid for each user in the DC.
As mentioned here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Using_RFC2307_on_a_Samba_DC#Check_if_RFC2307_is_used_by_your_Domain_Controllers
If I do this, users are added to the passwd file on the domain controller or saved to the db sam?
Im go to try this tomorrow.
That big problem is not

ZFS in front of MD3000i
We''re setting up ZFS in front of an MD3000i (and attached MD1000
expansion trays).
The rule of thumb is to let ZFS manage all of the disks, so we wanted
to expose each MD3000i spindle via a JBOD mode of some sort.
Unfortunately, it doesn''t look like the MD3000i this (though this[1]
post seems to reference an Enhanced JBOD mode....), so we decided to
create a whole bunch of

Identifying firmware version of SATA controller (LSI)
Trying to track down why our two Intel X-25E''s are spewing out
Write/Retryable errors when being used as a ZIL (mirrored). The
system is running a LSI1068E controller with LSISASx36 expander

The drives are fairly new, and it seems odd that both of the pair would
start showing errors at the same time....

UID and GID mapping throw DC and Member DC
Question:
When you add users to the ADDC the UID users are always going to be different from those obtained by the DC winbind Member?
I talk about destroy the member server, because I have the freedom to do it again if necessary, this server is not in production.
Regards.

Hi,
I'm trying to get winbindd to obtain uid and gid info from M$ AD (Windows

Winbind uid/gid issue.
Hello All,
I've got Samba 3.0.4 running under Solaris 8 with AD support/Winbind... One
issue I'm having that I need to fix is, all the files on the Solaris box are
owned by uid's and gid's from my nis files... Now that winbind is running,
when a user modifies a file, it is now owned by DOMAIN+AD-USERID and the
same for the group... Then a lot of other people can't access those

filexfer draft and uid / gid resolution ...
Sorry if this is not the best place to post this question but I'm
not sure who else to ask. After reading through the filexfer draft I am
having trouble understanding how a sftp client goes about resolving uid
/ gid to its text representation. Without handling this translation for
the user, how do they know the difference between one uid / gid to the
next without opening up a terminal to the
