VoIP hackers gut Caller ID
The Register is carrying a article written by Kevin Poulsen of Securtiy Focus, calling asterisk "..the most powerful tool for manipulating and accessing CPN data.." > http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/07/07/hackers_gut_voip/ I hope NuFone doesn't drop asterisk-set-able callerid's after this article; i've been wanting that feature from voicepluse for a long time.

Copy Passwords from Active Directory to Samba
Hello, I'm migrating from Windows 2003 Active Directory to a Samba 3 PDC and would like to avoid recreating passwords for all of my users. Is it possible to copy the Windows user accounts or just the passwords from the Windows box to Samba? I've read about the pwdump.exe tool, but can't find any reports of it working on Windows 2003 and am not sure if Active Directory stores

Re-install libwrap in OpenSSH
Hello all, after a useless discussion on the opensuse ML I had to find out that they buried the removal news of libwrap last year in some half-sentence. So this is unfortunately pretty late for the topic. Nevertheless it is pretty obvious that you did not get any feedback from people using ssh over decades in server-administration. Let me make a clear point: libwrap removal was a pretty bad idea.

Hints about large network!
Hi. In few weeks I'm planning to set up a windows network over our departmental net. I need some advices, suggestions about what you would do. We're in front of a large network. I'm expecting having 50+ + computers logging in the windows domain, many different users. Servers will be just unix (linux mainly, and aix/bsd for experiments only) The underlying structure is really

roaming profiles - one file can't be copied to server
Hi, i have a Ubuntu x64 10.04 Server. Samba configured as PDC. Since today i experience that roaming prfiles can't copy one file to the server and shout an error message. It's no specific file, mostly its one in my Thunderbird Profile. Does anybody know what could this cause to happen? My smb.conf: [global] printing = bsd netbios name = PDC server string = PDC (%h)

out of memory in build_hash_table
I recently installed rsync 2.5.5 on both my rsync server and client being used. I installed the latest version because I was having problems with rsync stalling with version 2.4.6 (I read that 2.5.5 was supposed to clear this up or at least give more appropriate errors). I am still having problems with rsync stalling even after upgrading to 2.5.5. It only stalls in the "/home" tree

tdbsam to ldapsam
System: Sid ; Samba 3.0.0 ; using tdbsam ; no problems Goal: Would like to move password, group, and user data to ldap backend. Problem: I've read Samba-HOWTO-Collection.pdf and don't see exactly how to do this as the Howto addresses primarily the password backend. What I've done so far: 1) Created the openldap bdb and the dc=domain,dc=com base and the admin with password. 2) Run

Practical guide to migrate from tdbsam to ldapsam
Hello people! I'd like to know about a practical guide which helps to migrate users from a perfect working Samba PDC running with tdbsam backend to a new backend to LDAP. Does "pdbedit -i xxx -e xxx" make all the job? My network is growing and I need a directory service to help find people so I'd like to see a LDAP server running well with Samba without rebuild my user

create smbpasswd/tdbsam from ldapsam/LDAP query?
As some of you may know, I'm trying to set up Samba BDC on a disk- and fan-less tiny mipsel_CPU router running OpenWRT distribution. I already managed to compile Samba 3.0.21a and OpenLDAP 2.3.18 for it, and they seem to work fine. The problem is, this tiny distribution for routers doesn't seem to have anything like Name Service Switch (NSS), and relies solely on /etc/passwd and
