Samba fails
We are running Samba 3.5.8 on a Solaris 10 box and created several shares on our server so that people can access certain files/folders via the Active Directory (so we are also using winbindd). This worked well for a couple of years until recently - now, we are not able to access any of our shares. When we try, samba crashes (though nmbd & winbind do not). I've gone through several tests:

Taking determinant of a matrix of NAs results in intermittent memory corruption
Greetings; I've posted the following to R's bug tracking system (at https://bugs.r-project.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=17210 ) and Martin Maechler requested that I post to this list as well.
If I start R from the command line with --vanilla, then repeatedly execute the following line:
det(matrix(nrow=10,ncol=10))
... I eventually get a crash, with error:

AIX 53TL8 Samba 3.2.4 Active Directory Win2k3 - "session setup failed: Call returned zero bytes (EOF)"
Hi All,
I am using Samba 3.2.4 compiled from source on AIX 5.3 TL8 and using
"security = SERVER" in the smb.conf works fine, however I am having
some issues when using "security = ADS" ..
I have followed numerous HOWTOs and newsgroup listings and seem to be
going round in circles ..
I think I can authenticate ok against the domain win2k3 server, but
then Samba bombs out with

Samba client issues
Hello everyone,
I am a newbie to samba. I am trying to mount a Windows 2000 share directory on my linux box using smbmount. I am able to do so successfully. But I do see some errors pop up when I run the command. My mount seems to be stable and it is mounted as rw.
# smbmount "//EngineerWKS85/My Drivers" /mnt/samba -o username=MyUsername,password=MyPassword,workgroup=MyWorkgroup

Samba ADS Error "Session setup failed: Call returned zero bytes (EOF)"
Hi Samba Bods,
Sorry for re-posting this one but I got no response to my last post except
for a level 10 logs request which I uploaded last week.
I have been looking at numerous howtos and newsgroup postings and I cannot
spot what the issue is. I am sure its a simple config issue, but I am lost

Samba 3.5.8 (and 3.5.5) shipped with Solaris 10 keeps crashing when smbd process count hits about 500-600
Hi,
We are running Samba on Solaris 10 cluster as a HA service. There are two nodes in the cluster and Samba versions are 3.5.8 on other node and 3.5.5 on another. Samba build is one that ships with Solaris 10. We are using Sun (Oracle) LDAP for user account data so passwd and group databases related information is retrieved from there. Authentication is done against Windows 2008 AD.

Samba 4 is half as fast as Samba 3?!
Hi,
I tried upgrading from my Samba 3 setup to Samba 4.1.6 - I do not need all
those AD-Features, I just need to mount the shares on two Windows 7 systems.
Nothing more or less - this is the only feature I need.
I use the same configuration that I used with Samba 3 (testparm says it
is fine).
The simple question is - why do I reach transfer rates of ~110MB/Sec with
Samba 3 and only ~45 MB/Sec

What management of samba is available for large scale deployment
I'm working for a higher education institution, and we have Novell Netware
for our file sharing services. We are looking at what migration paths
are available.
I know samba works, we use it on a number of Solaris and Linux boxes and
have it authenticate against our Windows ADS. Manually editing samba
confiiguration files for up to a hundred users is OK. The challenge is how
do you manage a

No Access after enabling SMB2
Hello,
i have a Samba Server running on CentOS 5.6 with samba package 3.5.8
from SerNet.
Shares can accessed until I enable max protocol = smb2, after that no
access is possible.
In the samba logfiles such an access is logged with:
Failed to parse NTLMSSP packet, could not extract NTLMSSP command
Followed by a dump_data.
Any ideas?
Cheers,

Samba WINS Server losing all elections against
Hello everybody.
I've been trying for weeks to find a solution for my problem, but since
I couldn't find anything, here I am.
I manage a network of about 200 PCs, 90% windows XP and Vista, 10% linux.
A samba server is located on the main server, acting as a WINS server,
to manage the list of connected computers.
However, when a resident computer is badly configured (ie no wins server

And it is testing using "smbtorture(samba3.5.8 source4) ".
The point in question was found in our entry of this test.

Mac OS X status
Hi
Recently I play with Mac OS X and find some major issues:
I reported the most major issue as BUG#8042:
Newly create files are always failed with NT_STATUS_FILE_IS_A_DIRECTORY
<https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8042>
I found other issues with Samba 3.5.8 and Mac OS X 10.6.7:
- --with-readline (default) causes compile error so explicitly
--without-readline is needed.

kernel oplocks in ctdb environment
Hi
Can anyone advise me on "kernel oplocks" in a ctdb cluster.
I have a ctdb (GPFS is the parallel file system) setup that uses samba
(3.5.8) for cifs and IBM CNFS for NFS. Reading the documentation on
kernel oplocks it seems to me that I can export the same area via samba
and NFS with "kernel oplocks = Yes" .
My logic is that IBM CNFS has shared NFS locking

smbfs: intermittent failures when accessing W2K server
I think I am experiencing a problem with samba 2.2.8 and kernel 2.4.20.
I am using these versions on a number of computers in a render farm. These
(Linux) computers use smbfs to access a Windows 2000 file server.
Two things that I notice:
1) The rendering application (Maya) fails due to a failure to access files on
the file server when first run after the Linux machine is started.

Samba 3.0.23c + Win2K AD, can't mount shares (PANIC: internal error)
Hi,
I've got a big problem since my new samba servers are in 3.0.23c
version, no problems before.
The server is only a file server and domain member in a Win2K Active
Directory domain (4 replicated DC, 1 domain, no forest).
My problem:
Anytime I try to connect a share through any kind of client (MacOS
cifs client, smbclient, windows win2K pro, ...) the client can't
mount the
