Per-process QoS on Linux?
Hello,
I''ve tried searching for this but I don''t seem to be able to find a way to
search past archives in this list.
Is there a way to get a per-process qos functionality in linux? At this very
moment, I''m using with success a kind of ''workaround'' in my server, which
involves creating multiple virtual ethernet interfaces with different IPs
and binding

Bidirectional rsync with "trash" support
Hello everybody,
I was thinking about a special script to be done with rsync, when I realized
my needs might have been common enough to have already been fulfilled by
somebody else through a script or by some backup software.
I have a folder I share between two computers of mine, A and B. What i want
is to be able to keep it in full sync. If a file is added in A, it should be
added to B when

Bridge not forwarding multicast traffic to the tap interface
I have a Debian 8 64-bit machine set up as a server and apt-got the tinc
package. I configured tinc as a bridge and everything seems normal except
that the tunnel does not forward multicast traffic.
I used tcpdump to examine the br0, eth0 and tap interfaces. I could see
multicast packets on both br0 and eth0, but there is no such packet present
on the tap interface. I don't quite know why

A question on networking (CentOS 6)
Like?I said, wishful thinking.?The light is still out, so it could be the HW.
I ran those commands (ip addr show, ip route show) on the 2 servers.? The output is identical except for the IP addresses and the MAC addresses, except on the server with the new card, it is missing the following IPV6 info for the interface name p2p1 which is the interface in question.

Convert Unix users to Samba users
Hi,
I just installed a new Centos 6.1 machine with Samba 3.5.6-86.el6_1.4 . I
use Webmin to administer the server and configuring Samba (SWAT is also
available in Webmin). I have chosen the option to convert the Linux users
to Samba users and the command completes and says the users have been
converted. However, when I then look at the Samba users the list is empty.
Restarted the Samba

PPPoE + Masquedate + Shorewall
Hi,
I have been a shorewall user for a long time now, and it has been
working flawlessly. I have now changed ISP and my new DSL connection is
PPPoE.
My setup is as follows:
internet <--------> 3com812 Officeconnect (bridge mode) <----> eth0
<-------> linux box <----> eth1, eth2, eth3, eth4 <---> other internal
networks
Things are working fine, but the link is

Upgrade From 4.0.16 To 4.0.17+ Breaks
G'day Guys,
I've hit a snag. After using S4 from Alpha, beta, rc, 4.0.1..16 with success, I wanted to upgrade to the 4.1 series. However, after compiling, installing, and provisioning, with no errors, samba4 won't start correctly. I did a few tests by installing from scratch, on the same server each of the following versions (4.0.17, 4.0.18, 4.0.19, and 4.1.9), and got the same

Unable to access share on Encrypted Partition
Hi,
I would like some help. I am trying to set-up a share on an Encrypted
Partition of my Home Server.
I'm using opensuse 11.4 with samba version
3.5.7-3.5.1-2573-SUSE-SL11.4-i386.
This is something that I know has worked with earlier versions of openSuSE
and samba.
My smb.conf looks like this:
==START==
[global]
workgroup = buffalonet
passdb backend = tdbsam
printing = cups

Hi,
I've just upgraded an old samba 3.0.23 on an old Fedora Core 5 to samba
3.5.4 using an rpm built from the source.
Everything works fine, but when i start the server i get some error

Before i start the server there is no connection (tested with lsof and
fuser) on the 139 and 445 ports, smbd or nmbd aren't running.
With the old version i never had this

One account can access samba, another can't.
My wife and I each have our own workstation dual-booting WinXP and
Gentoo Linux. We also have a third which runs Gentoo all the time. I
wanted to set up samba on the third box and provide some extra storage
space for both our Windows installs. It worked for a few days, then all
of a sudden it stopped letting my account (michael) in while still
letting my wife's account (amy) use the share.

Access to sockets denied in Termux
Is anyone familiar with using a samba server in Android Termux?
It works OK for an smbmount in a Linux qemu VM, in the instance started by
the
-nic smb=$PATH option of qemu (both qemu-system-x86_64 and samba installed
to Termux) but smbd -D fails with this log:

Access to sockets denied in Termux
Is there a way to start smbd when ports < 1024 are unavailable?
It seems that qemu does it, because the -nic smb=<path> provides a working
smbd instance available to smbmount, if not win9x. So what smb.conf options
does qemu use?
smbd -D crashes in Termux, as shown below.

Access to sockets denied in Termux
No, I don't have root in my Android. I understand that prevents access to
ports below 1024 but I find that Linux clients can mount Termux
qemu-started Samba shares nevertheless.
I need to prevent smbd crashing for want of low sockets and wonder if win9x
can mount without them.
