winbind: wbinfo -g sees "domain users", getent group does not
I have configured winbind on a Linux file server, connecting to a
Samba PDC. When I run wbinfo -g, I can see the group "domain users".
On the other hand, when I run getent group, I do not see this group.
Apart from a few other groups, all groups are visibile in both wbinfo
-g and getent group.
When running for the first time wbinfo -u, getent passwd and wbinfo
-g, I got the results

wbinfo -u and -g work, getent passwd works, getent group DOES NOT WORK
Hi,
I'm trying to get some Ubuntu8.04 clients to authenticate to an Ubuntu8.04 Samba domain controller. Everyone is running Samba 3.0.28a.
Side question: should I upgrade to 3.2? Keep in mind that means finding binaries for ubuntu or compiling from source for a server and 20 clients.
Basically wbinfo -u and -g work, getent passwd works, getent group DOES NOT WORK.
My domain is called

samba-3.0.20rc1 winbind Windows 2003 SP1 ADS wbinfo all fine, but getent passsd or group does not work...
Hi,
I've joined a Suse 9.1 Pro linux computer to a Windows 2003 SP1 ADS using:
# kinit Administrator@DOMAIN
# net ads join
The computer account is created on the DC and wbinfo (-t -u -g) all
work. Then I try getent passwd or getent group and nothing.
This is with:
#grep winbind /etc/nsswitch.conf
passwd: compat winbind
group: compat winbind
# ps -ef | grep -E

getent group not listing domain groups / wbinfo -r not working
I know, I know, this again :)
The company I work for would like to use squid for proxy authentication
purposes using NTLM, using a Windows 2008 R2 server as a DC. I've
managed to setup samba/winbind to use ads and successfully joined the
domain. Configured nsswitch.conf to lookup winbind entities (however I
didn't touch PAM configuration, as I don't actually want the users to be

wbinfo -u lists ADS users without domain, getent passwd returns only local users
I'm using Samba/Winbind for single-sign on in a network where Active
Directory is the authoritative authentication source. The active
directory server is Windows 2003 with Services for Unix installed so
that the schema is extended and the management interface has a "Unix
Attributes" tab.
wbinfo -u produces a list of users, without a DOMAIN+ prefix.
getent passwd lists only

I'm trying to set up a new fileshare, to replace an aging NT4 machine we've
been using for far too long.
I'd like to run Linux (RedHat 7.3) on the machine.
Basically, I'm trying to create a fileshare "files" that people can
transparently log in to from NT4 and Windows 2000 workstations. My boss has
approved the use of Linux for the server, but only if I can make it

Hi all,
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 samba 4.1.6 packages, attempting to set up a server
for file shares AD clients can use. My previous setup was a simple AD join
with a user map file (1 to 1 AD to unix user) that i've been migrating for
approximately 7 years, and with the last 2003 AD server removed from the
network it stopped working (2008 R2 DC's now).

winbind v3.0.26a w. nss info = sfu; wbinfo fine, getent not
wbinfo can turn names into sids, sids into names, and sids into uids.
However, getent passwd only finds users in the local /etc/passwd file.
Same for getent group. /etc/nsswitch.conf says this:
passwd: files winbind
group: files winbind
shadow: compat
I strace'd the getent command. It said it couldn't find /lib/libnss_winbind.so.2,
so I made that a symlink to

Winbind - wbinfo -u works, getent passwd only gives local users
I only have limited Samba experience, and expect this is a silly mistake, but
have been unable to find a solution
I have installed Samba and Winbind on my desktop Linux (Debian) machine
(SPARKSTONELX), aiming to unify logins with other windows machines accessing
the PDC, again samba/Debian, with tdbsam password backend. All is well,
joining the domain, and getting account details using wbinfo -u,

nss_windbind.so can't see groups that wbinfo -g can (4.0.9 as AD DC)
[I'm afraid $customer made me anonymize their rootdn, user and group
names, so the ones below are made up. Hopefully I haven't introduced
any errors in the process.]
I'm running Debian 7 with samba 4.0.9dfsg1-1 built from
git://git.debian.org/pkg-samba/samba. I'm using samba as an AD DC,
with accounts migrated from a samba3/slapd stack using samba-tool
domain classicupgrade.

getent group 'Domain Users' hangs
The setup:
- Samba 2.2.6 with winbind on Solaris 9.
- PDC on NT 4.0 SP6
- fresh install in test lab
Solaris host correctly authenticates users.
wbinfo -u returns all users
wbinfo -g returns all groups
getent passwd returns all users
getent group returns all groups except Domain Users!
wbinfo -n 'Domain Users' returns <SID-of-Domain-Users>
wbinfo -G 10000 returns

AD integration: "getent passwd" can't see *new* users, but "wbinfo -u" can
I have two different systems (on different networks) showing this
behavior. Both are running Ubuntu Dapper/606.1 LTS with samba version
3.0.22 and windows 2003 sp1 servers (not R2). AD integration is done
via winbind, with nss using winbind. At some point in time (which is
unknown to me), the samba server stopped seeing new users, groups,
machines which are added to AD.

No you are not, you are setting up a Samba AD DC, a PDC is something
entirely different.

Winbind ldap samba 3 BDC getent passwd answer don't retrieve domain users, can't login on the domain with users that are not on /ect/passwd + typo error ?
Helo,
On redhat 9 - samba 3 stable - Using the rpm from 24 september.
I try to configure a bdc.
Smb.conf is :
idmap backend = ldap:ldap://ip_address
ldap idmap suffix = ou=personnes,ou=ac-ville,ou=educ
winbind uid = 10000-20000
winbind gid = 10000-20000
# allow enumeration of winbind users and groups
winbind enum users = yes
