winxp + sp3 = samba-shared printer hangs the system
hi,
since I upgraded some winxp-pro sp2 client to sp3, my samba-shared
printers are no-longer usable :-/
With sp3, if I run notepad and choose the men? File-Print, the "print"
window hangs and does not show any printer for about 1 minute! The
same thing happens when I click on the men? Start-settings-Printer and
faxes.
With sp2, everything works correctly and I can browse all my

installing printers
For you Win2K folks that are using disable spoolss=yes you can use this
command below to install printers....I will try and explain some of the
parts:

/m "HP Color LaserJet 4500 PCL 5c" /r "\\pc3\hp4500n" /b "Color Printer -

how do you manage printers on workstations?
How do you manage printers on Windows workstations?
What I mean, suppose you have many classrooms, different printers (which
sometimes change) in these classroms - how do you manage which
workstation (or a group of them) will use which printer?
So far I've been using WPKG for that - as I described here:

But somehow I feel it

adding printers from netlogon script
I don't know the final answer BUT if you have something simmilar to a
cyber-cafe LAN (I mean, users use all the computers, and maybe some
users come back to login with the same name) then you have to install a
printer only once in a computer, loging as the administrator and
installing drivers. Then what users will have to do is JUST add the
printer without installing. I know that it's

DIFFICULT printing question SAMBA/WinXP/Cups
hi there
following this guide
http://de.samba.org/samba/docs/man/printing.html#id2933004
i try to add network printers on clients via startup-script
my problem: samba should just be the "driver provider" and not spool
print jobs...those should go directly to the printers
it should just give the needed driver to the client and tell him, that
he should use a TCP/IP port and NOT the

Samba-Cups: all works except browsing when printer is not defined in smb.conf

Debian Etch with Samba 3.0.24
Clients: WinXP SP3 (with Firewall completely off for testing)
When I define a printer specifically in smb.conf, they show up as shared

I followed mainly the latest SAMBA-HOWTO (chapter 21-22)
The only error I see in log.smbd when accessing the

PrintUIEntry for NT4?
For Win2K, I've been using RunDLL32 printui.dll,printuientry to do a bunch
of different printer related stuff (most notably, mapping printers and
setting the default).
Looks like NT4 doesn't have the same stuff. Is there anything classier I
can use than NET USE under NT4 (without downloading something like
Kixstart)?
Thanks for your help.

setting printing preference in 3.0.1 for 'HP LJ 4/4M plus'
Hi Jerry et al,
I'm using the 3.0.1 release on Solaris 9 in security mode ADS. It works
fine in general. But there are some problems with printer drivers. For ex
the HP LJ 4/4M plus driver can not be set to 'A4' from 'letter' in the
printing preferences.
I use 'rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /p /t3 /n\\...' to get to the
dialogue, so I'm pretty sure I try to

installing printer in a logon script
Hello,
I have Samba 3 PDC and win2k sp4 client.
I would like to install printer on a machine globally, for all users.
To do this, I use:
net use X: \\server\unattended /user:domain\unattended password
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /q /y /ga /in /n \\server\HP2000C
First line is mounting share (Administrator is not logged to the
domain), and the second line is to install printer.

unable to upload printer driver
I can install Kyocera Universal KPDL drivers once i delete the sections:
[PrinterPackageInstallation.x86]
PackageAware=TRUE
CoreDriverDependencies={D20EA372-DD35-4950-9ED8-A6335AFE79F1}
[PrinterPackageInstallation.amd64]

CoreDriverDependencies={D20EA372-DD35-4950-9ED8-A6335AFE79F1}
in the OEMSETUP.inf file.
But editing the file invalidates signing.

unable to upload printer driver
Hello Franz,
Out of curisoity I tried to install the old Kyocera Universal drivers we
use since a few years on an other samba server (4.6.5).
Found the old version here
https://www.rz.uni-osnabrueck.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Campuscard/Drucken/Treiber/win8/KyoceraClassicUniversalDriversCertified130315.zip.
It also fails now and the OEMSETUP.INF file also contains an

Solution! CUPS Printing / Win2K with Access Denied
Hey Samba team... I'll still buy you pizza!
Anyway, trying to be good security folks, we had tossed in a global setting in smb.conf that root was an invalid user. No Windows client will ever have an account named that which they need to touch
Samba with, and everyone knows it is bad bad bad to logon to your Linux box with root... but anyway, Samba sure seems to have an opinion about doing

OT: Feedback Request: HP Laserjet MFD M3027x and Laserjet 2840 on Linux?
Hello all
Sorry for posting my query here, but did not have any success in getting
feedback from linuxprinting.org/ openprinting.org forums.
Planning to buy a new colour MFD or a Mono MFD & a Colour printer, for
small buisiness office use. Could someone give feedback on HP Laserjet
MFD M3027x and Laserjet 2840? Do all functions provided by the printers
work on Linux? Any kinks? Do

login scripts --what to use
Hi,
We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver
the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to
printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share.
Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and
simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files?
Thanks,

adding printers from netlogon script
While this doesn't relate specifically to Samba, I need to do this in a netlogon .bat file
in a Samba domain. In my network, I have a printer hooked to a JetDirect so that it is a
TCP/IP printer. Is there a way I can automatically have this printer mapped/added when the
user is logged on?
