Resend of returned email: [3.6.6] Possible to allow password-free read/write access?
Why would the samba list be looking for a reverse host name
via IPV6? IFAIK I only have an IPv4 addr and reverse
addr. I don't know if the original went to the person
in france or not.
Anyone else getting bounces like this?

Resend of returned email: [3.6.6] Possible to allow password-free read/write access?
Why is someone not setting up an email server conform RFC's
and seems to be you have an ipv6.. so set the ptr record.
Hai Linda,
I do have ipv4 and ipv6 on my server, and im never blocked..
but i did setup conform all rfcs.. i block servers in the same way.
so yes, i did set my reverse for ipv4 and ipv6..
what most people do wrong..
1) the hostname must have A and RR (PTR) and MX

How would I make dir2 a copy of dir1 w/hardlinks for the files?
I have a dir "dir/"

dir b/ has a file in it 'file'

Can't find domain (but domain logins for joined WS and roaming profile works! ; -/ !
I'm trying to join a 2nd workstation to my domain -- but it can't find
the domain
name.
It's a Win7 machine (same as 1st)...all settings are the same and
wireshark shows the problem is the DC is claiming it can't find
the domain name (that it is the DC for!?)... um...

Hi,
I am in the processof migrating a a NT4 PDC over to a samba3 server. I am
following this guide:http://vermeulen.ca/linux-windows-nt.html

following errors:

0 length domain name & SCHANNEL can't be used to fetch trust account password?
I have a few errors I'm trying to chase down in an effort to get a
Win7 client in my domain. WinXP works -- tested unjoining and
rejoining today, and it can still join.
I have the registry adds for DNSNameResolutionRequired=0 under
LanmanServer&Client/Params (put it in both places in attempt to get
things working), as well as a DomainCompatibilityMode=1
I've tried moving to winbind

Concern: rsync failing to find some attributes in a file transfer?
I have a regular script I run to make static "snapshots" of my home
file system, with each being all the files that changed in the past 24
hours.
I just moved my home partition to a new harddisk w/more space.
I ran the util and have gotten odd results each time I ran it.
This one bothers me... as I'm not sure why the attrs would be missing.
How can the names be transfered but no

Practicality of fixing samba's case mangling problems?
Samba has multiple areas of case mangling problems that cause
incompatibilities
when used with windows or linux clients.
How viable is the idea of fixing the problems? Would the sky fall in if
it preserved case, but
either 'ignored it', or gave preference to matches that included the
case as typed (vs. alternate case
matches).
The first would be fairly compatible with current Win

Hi,
Thank you for your answer, would you mind if I ask for some more help ?
I'm sorry I don't understand exactly why you told me to look at the
`enable privileges` parameter in the man pages as an answer.

/home vs. /homes vs. [%U]
I've run into a bit of a peculiarity with exporting home directories
and what they map to.
I'm running SuSE samba-3.0.23b-0.1.35.
I have partition /home, with usernames on my linux box.
Am running in "user security" mode.
I'd like to be able to not only access my home directory, but
the parent as well (/home). Some of the /home directories are

I'm using: (according to ps)

But the difference FS systems get a full compliment of every dir in the
source.

G is a Global setting
S is a share setting.
unix extensions (G)
allow insecure wide links (G)
wide links (S)
follow symlinks (S)
In global add:
allow insecure wide links = yes
on the share add :
wide links = yes
follow symlinks = yes

problem upgrading 3.0.23->3.0.26
I'm trying to upgrade and old server from the 3.0.23 to the 3.0.26
version (suse93->suse103)
(for brevity, abbreviating 3.0.23->.23, and 3.0.26->.26)
It's not working as smoothly as I had hoped...and was wondering if
anyone has seen similar behavior or if I have some "gotcha" that I
haven't kept up on (quite possible, since I move my
