Windows 2008 pdc troubles
We are in the process of upgading our windows 2003 pdc's to windows
2008Rr2. No problem there, but our samba/winbind clients are beginning
to show some strange behaviour.
In the beginning we saw a lot of messages appear in the logfiles.
Example :

winbind ubuntu 9.10 crashing machine
Hi all:
I've got a couple Ubuntu 9.10 machines that are suffering from a
recurring failure of winbind that essentially crash the machine. When
the system is in the "crashed state", one can ping the system, but all
forms of login fail. It will not even respond to tftpd requests; ssh
connections "time out", but the initial port is opened (just no
connect). Rebooting does

troule switching winbind to use a new AD 2008
I have been using 2003 AD servers for winbind for many years, and now
2008 is phasing in, but I can't authenticate using the new servers, and
I'm not sure what to do. All advice very welcome.
This is a problem for me on both Gentoo (samba 3.0.33) and Debian Lenny
(samba 3.0.24).
For debugging, I ran winbind interactively and piped output to a file
(winbindd -d 3 -i).
I have also

I can't join the new AD server with Samba4
Hi, I'm sorry for my english.
i've migrated an old 3.6 samba domain to Samba 4.1 and the windows part is
working fine (i can join and manage the server from a Windows Machine), but
when I try to join the domain from another linux server it fails.
I've followed this guide to migrate:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_Classic_Upgrade_%28NT4-style_domain_to_AD%29

Samba/winbind with Active Directory auth
Hi List,
I'm installing a Samba server with the intended purpose of serving files to
Windows users with seamless authentication on the smb server.
For that, I've been reading and following every single google search result
regarding the subject, but it seems I'm stuck at some point where other
people are not blocked ...
To summarize, I have these commands OK:

Performance and disconnect troubles on winbind after samba upgrade
Hello,
We have a RHEL4 x64 running for 3 years, which is a samba member server
integrated with a AD domain without any problems (we was using
samba-3.0.10-1.4E.6).
Last Saturday we performed an entire server update, applying all RHN
available patches. Everything is running fine, except for winbind
service which has a strange behavior: often we are receiving some errors
at logs, and the

Problem authenticating from standalone servers via Samba 3.0.34 domain member servers to Samba 3.2.5 domain controller
We recently upgraded our PDC from Debian 4 to Debian 5. That entailed
an upgrade of Samba from 3.0.24 to 3.2.5. Since the upgrade we've had
a very specific problem connecting to shares on a commercial NAS
running Samba 3.0.34.
The problem happens when users try to connect to shares from
standalone servers--e.g., Windows XP Pro boxes that we use for
testing. From those boxes users should be

NT_STATUS_PIPE_DISCONNECTED error
Running 3.2.15 on RHEL 5.4 64-bit.
Joined the domain with no issues, able to look up id's with no
problem. Windows clients within the domain are able to use defined
shares. However, when trying to look up trusted domains, or when
trying to access shares from clients not in the domain (for example,
using smbclient), the following errors show up:

Debian Jessie joining AD as member fails with "The object name is not found."
Hi all!
To clarify, it must have been removed from the copy-pasta, but “net ads join -U” did produce a password prompt as expected.
The dig command produced the following:

; <<>> DiG 9.9.5-9+deb8u6-Debian <<>> -t SRV _ldap._tcp.domain.local

Samba joining Samba-based NT-Domain w/ 2.2
Hi,
I'm having terrible difficulties getting Samba to cooperate. I have the
following scenario:
Samba 2.2.3 set up as a PDC on a linux machine (turing, with the domain
set to DEFAULTDOMAIN), working fine with a win2k client.
Now I wish to join a Samba 2.2 linux machine was a domain member server
(moog), and I can't seem to convince samba to do what I want it to.
moog$ is set up on the PDC

Interdomain trusts (Bind NACK received on pipe)
I'm attempting to set up a 2-way NT4-style trust between samba 3.0.1-2
(from source rpm on redhat 7.2) and Windows 2003 running active directory.
The AD server (SANDMAN) trust of my Samba domain works fine, but when I
try to use the Samba trust of the AD server I get the following error:

cupsaddsmb rpcclient error
I am running samba 2.2.6 and cups 1.1.16. I can't get cupsaddsmb to
complete successfully. I'm at an end here, I can't think of anything
else to try after 2 weeks of searching the web. It copies the drivers
to the print$ share directory, however the SetPrinter command fails on
the rpcclient command and it returns with an NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL
error. At the SetPrinter failure, it

Problems with rpcclient

I am having a pretty serious problem with rpcclient ...
if I try 'enumprinters' at the prompt, i get back

result was NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL
However, enumdrivers works fine.
Addriver does not work either, and just returns

Debian Jessie joining AD as member fails with "The object name is not found."
Hi all!
I had originally been using a DHCP-assigned address. I have now switched to a static IP, but that didn't solve the problem (same error message).
I'm attaching my resolv.conf, nsswitch.conf and krb5.conf files. I have not manually altered either of them, although krb5.conf appears to have been updated by some tool somewhere along the way because my domain is listed as the

3.5.6 rpcclient settdriver error
Hi,
I have Centos 5.5 64b with Sernet samba 3.5.6-43.el5 packages. It is
configured as domain member server, providing file and printer services.
I can connect with: "rpcclient -Uveiko localhost", enumdrivers and
enumprinters work, both printer and driver are listed, but when I'm
trying to set driver to printer:
"setdriver pdf-ipunkt "HP Color LaserJet 5/5M PS"
