Hamachi annoyances
Hi all,
Got a very frustrating problem here, I've been trying to use hamachi to play a few games over it's virtual lan connection. With all the games in question, be they native or run via wine, they all seem to not be able to pick up on the hamachi network.
My /etc/hosts file has the following entries.
5.86.189.163 sirbubbles-desktop
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 sirbubbles-desktop

Needs to run smbldap-useradd as non-root user
Hello,
The abstract is :
How to run smbldap-useradd (and others) with a non-root user, knowing
that giving Samba privileges to the user's account is enough.
Now are details :
My setup is FreeBSD-8, samba35, nss_ldap, smbldap-tools... And NO pam_ldap.
I am creating a webservice which must run smbldap-tools scripts.
Everything is running on a FreeBSD-8, and running fine by root. However,

Kerberos Keytab Code Update in 3.0.23
First thing - I'd like to say a big "THANK YOU" to the developers.
I just upgraded to samba-3.0.23 and I've noticed an alarming issue with
respect to my configuration.
I've been using the built-in keytab management and it looks like the updated
code no longer creates the userPrincipal in Active Directory.
Whether this is an issue for others or not, it would be nice to have

Question about how Mongrel process works with singletons
Hi,
I have a controller where I access a singleton class that I use to
connect to a DRbprocess
DrbConnector.instance.some_method
I notice that on every request, the constructor is called so it is
making a new instance of this singleton. Is this normal?
Thanks,

form_tag with protocol => ''https'' help
Hi,
I am not having much luck using the form_tag with a protocol. I try
the following in my view: index.rhtml
<%= form_tag({:controller => ''home'',:action => ''login'',:protocol =>
''https''},{:method => ''post''}) %>
hoping it would generate
<form action=''https://myhost.com/home/login''

Steam overlay ubuntu maverick
Hello, annoying problem here.
I've recently installed Ubuntu Maverick beta 1 with wine 1.3.2. For some time now, my steam overlay has been functioning perfectly. Now, since installing Maverick, I've suddenly lost the steam overlay. The process doesn't even launch at all, and invoking it manually is impossible.
Are there any known issues with Maverick, wine, steam and the overlay that

Create machine account samba 3 - can I delete machine in /etc/passwd ( I use ldap backend ) ?
Hi,
The idea is to avoid to have machines accounts in /etc/passwd
and store all on the ldap.
I must have a machine account in /etc/passwd ( normal way ) to
create the account with pdbedit -a -m machine_account.
In fact once it is created , I can delete the account in the
localmachine and machine can connect without any problems. ( the account
stay only in the ldap ). I 've done it.

Samba authentication against 389 DS
Hello,
I am using Centos 6 with 389 DS. Everything is working, I can
authenticate my users against it etc.
Now I am trying to make Samba authenticate against the LDAP by
following http://directory.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Howto:Samba
However, it seems that Samba does not read the 'password' value, but
'sambaNTPassword'. I wrote in 389-DS mailing list and they said, that

How workstation get authenticated in DC
Dear Friends,
I use LDAP as the samba backend passwd in RHEL. After adding some index to LDAP, some workstation lost the trust relationship with the domain controller. The solution is to re-join the workstation to the domain, but I do not know why workstation lost the trust relationship.
When I re-join the workstation to domain, I find that the workstation LDAP entry change/add the

Password policies in the LDAP server
Hi
We have some Samba servers using LDAP (389 DS) as backend. In the LDAP
server, we have defined some policies to make the passwords stronger. When a
user tries to change his password (Control-Alt-Del), this message appears in
the LOGs:
==> /var/log/samba/xptest <==

Samba file server using ldap backend without AD or PDC?
Hi all,
I've been using samba for a few years now on a couple of file servers with a
tdbsam backend for our user accounts. We use openldap for the vast majority
of our identity management, so I would love to be able to tie into this. We
recently started using sambaNTPassword in openldap for radius
authentication, so this is populated for most of our users now.

LDAP help!
Hey list,
Right now I have Samba+LDAP working (like a charm acctually) I just
have one issue. Right now Samba is authenticating the user against
the sambaLMPassword and/or the sambaNTPassword attributes.
I would rather it authenticated against the userPassword attribute
like my unix boxes and mail servers do. Is samba capable of doing
this? Otherwise I have to maintain two seperate passwords

Samba, OpenLDAP and Passwords
Hi,
I have an existing OpenLDAP directory, that I want to use as the backend for
a Samba 3 instance.
I do not want for now making Samba a Domain Controller, but only define in
it some shares accessible by users on LDAP.
I have imported in my slapd.conf the samba schema, and I have inserted in my
smb.conf all the directives for connecting to an LDAP server:

changing ldap passwords?
Samba experts,
I am using Samba 3.0.8 on an AIX 5.1 system with ldap authentication. I
have ldap working so that users can authenticate in their samba account via
ldap. However, I am trying to figure out the best method for allowing
users to change their ldap samba account password.
What is the best method to allow end users to change their LM/NT
passwords for Samba via LDAP?

changing password on samba bdc
Greetings All.
First let me introduce my situation
Machine1: Pdc Samba + OpenLDAP(master)
Machine2: Bdc Samba + OpenLDAP(slave)
LDAP stores Samba and POSIX information for each user.
Case1: I login to Machine1 and invoke smbpasswd. I change
my passwords (samba and posix without any problem). In next
few seconds they get propagated to Machin2 wher I can login
with new credentials.

That seems to be my experience too.
I only have a few applications running under Wine and just two of those need MIDI playback for which I use fluidsynth.

error compiling icecast on woody
I had this same problem. To fix, I just commented the line with
the CURLOPT_NOSIGNAL out since I couldn't find that option anywhere in
the curl headers. It's running fine on my Debian woody box.

After migrating users to ldap, passwords still stored in passdb.tdb
I am running Samba ver 3.0.33 on Solaris 10 (sparc.) Initially I had
the server configured as a domain controller with the "passdb backend
= tdbsam" option. The underlying unix accounts were stored in LDAP
(Sun Directory Server.) Those accounts are also used for non-Samba
services.
Since I have domain trusts with NT domains, I am using winbind and
idmapping. The idmap data was
