Windows 7/Samba unable to log in via name, works by IP
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help with this. We have a 3.3.8 Samba server, on Centos 5.5 64, security DOMAIN, works beautifully with XP. When windows 7 systems attempt to log in via \\NAME, the login window just continually repeats, but they can login successfully when using \\IP_ADDRESS Samba log shows the below in response to windows 7 login attempts. windbind, 'template homedir', and macros
I am currently using Mssfu, nss_ldap, and pam_ldap to enable my linux boxes to auth against MsA.D. and get all their user info from MsA.D. I recently discovered that winbind can accomplish the same without Mssfu, as long as I'm content to be limitted by the winbind config directives 'template shell' and 'template homedir'. I'd like to drop sfu if I can. The 'template

NIS extensions - only 3 of 55 entries present
I have a test setup of samba 4.1.6 under ubuntu 14.04. When I do the query shown at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Using_RFC2307_on_a_Samba_DC#Check_if_NIS_Extensions_are_installed_in_your_Directory it shows I have the ypServ30 container installed. If I change this query to -s sub then I find 3 entries in that subtree (see [1] below) However the full schema in

winbind nss info : how does it handle multiple values?
It looks to me like the 'winbind nss info' parameter is designed to be a space-separated list of values. I say this because: 1) i gave it two values, separated by spaces, and testparm(1) did not complain; 2) the man page ( http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man5/smb.conf.5.html ) gives an example of two values. Assuming that's true, how do the multiple values work together? Is order

Winbind vs pam_krb5/nss_ldap
Hi all, I am just after some opinions about the pros and cons of winbind compared to the 'standard' kerberos and ldap methods. I've have already got single sign on working with pam_krb5 and nss_ldap (using SASL/GSSAPI) against SBS 2003 (with MSSFU 3.0) using Debian Sarge as clients/'member servers', and integration of Samba is the next bit I'm looking at. The impressions

They basically look OK to my limited understanding except for the Mapping options. I did check those mapping boxes, but I guess it also

How to Join Mac OSX workstation as AD domain member
Well, I've made some progress. Excuse the detail, but this might help others as I've so far found NOTHING on this, including with the Mac Enterprise maillist (so far). If I unchecked all the Directory Utility mapping options, I was able to log in! Yeah! But, the UID.GID numbers were 1793602029.1840809715. Next I tried just setting the "Map group GID to attribute" to 10000 (my

I think I have my Mac AD mappings wrong. Get last uidNumber
Hello, is there a way to get the last uidNumber from ldap. I can do a ldapsearch like: ldapsearch -h samdom.example.com -D "administrator at samdom.example.com" -w "changeit" -b "DC=samdom,DC=example,DC=com" -x -LLL "(uidNumber=*)" uidNumber | grep -Po "(?<=uidNumber: )([0-9]{4})" | sort | tail -n1 But there is no guarantee that the last

Samba-3-server and MS ADS / MSSFU-schema
Hello, my question is: can I use MS ADS with MSSFU-schema extension together with samba3? We have a MS-ADS with all MSSFU attributes filled, so that nix-client using pam/nss-ldap can use the ADS for authentication and in nss. The nix-clients can also mount MS-shares as their home-directories (pam-cifs). Additionaly, we need to have a linux file server using samba3. No the question is: can the
