passdb backend issue: setting other than 'smbpasswd' does not work
I'm currently running the samba3x packages on Centos 5.6. I recently switched to them from the SERnet Samba 3.3 packages to Centos Samba3x packages (smbd now reports Version 3.5.4-0.70.el5_6.1). At the same time, I switched to ldapsam as a backend. Everything seemed to be working fine until I tried to change a user's password with smbpasswd (as root). smbpasswd did not report any

Printer Configurations
We are running multiple SAMBA servers but they all access the same printers, so I would like to copy the config files (as there are about 100 printers) from the main server to the others so that al the attached drivers and comments and such are intact. Any ideas on this one? BTW Our servers are running Solaris8, Linux (red hat 7.2), etc... -- -Broderick Wood- Analyst, Systems Support Group

Samba/LDAP - using Poledit for security templates.
Hi samba gurus, I have a successful install of samba/LDAP (on FC5) and am looking at applying security templates for different groups. I had this successfully working on my old RH9 box running samba (but not using LDAP). Using poledit, I created groups (sales, it, etc) that were the same as my linux groups, and created a Ntconfig.POL file. Referring to this article for use on poledit.exe and

System Policy Editor not running on XP
This Samba Wiki entry: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_System_Policies_with_Samba ... says how to use the MS System Policy Editor, and implies it runs on XP. When I run "adminpak.msi" (extracted from Windows 2000 SP4) it says it wil l not run on this version of Windows, and if you continue to install you get a System File Protection error. Is this just the way things

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
I'm creating a deploy plan, for strict client policies (to comply to ISO standards and security) For mixed win 7 enterprise and win 10 enterprise on a Samba Active Directory. On the lookout if Samba would be any different towards client policies. I did some googling, and got pointed to old samba articles of 2007: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_System_Policies_with_Samba

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
So only for old NT4 style PDC - BDC environment one needs poledit. While AD's (with virtual pdc role servers) can use the MMC.? We got a pure Samba AD environment and thus it should work. Be it that we might not have all mmc templates (not yet checked that). Thanks Viktor. -----Original message----- From: Viktor Trojanovic?<viktor at troja.ch> Sent: Wednesday 21st October 2020

Printing Problems (Updated)
I have been struggling with samba and printing. My original post is at http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/msg72613.html. I since then, I built a 2nd box, but this time it is a samba 3.0.0 box. The same thing happens on the 3.0.0 box. The update is that this occurs on the lexmark printer using the Lexmark Z22/32 drivers. If I use a HP driver or a different driver, the job goes to the queue,

Domain user printing
It looks like a domain user has NO printing permission. Do I need Policy Editor for this? Where do I get it to run on an XP Pro system? I have seen various notes about this, but I can't make head or tails of them.

Printing troubles.
Hi, I've recently set up LPRng on my system in preparation for moving my organisation to a Samba/Linux based printing solution. I have a test printer properly set up, and issuing lpr commands from the command line works fine. I also have Samba set up with domain security and all the file sharing is also working OK. Whenever I try to print a test page to my Samba shared printer, I get the

Printing problem on RHEL3
Hi, I have a problem printing on a RHEL3 server running samba-3.0.9-1.3E.1. The server is configured to authenticates users using a nearby Windows 2000 Active Directory server. Windows users are authenticated to shared drives just fine, but printing from Windows clients is proving impossible. Occasionally I can hit a configuration that allows me to add a printer on my PC using the Add Printer

ACD Labs 12.0 installs fine, runs fine for the first time
Hi there, I am a relative Linux newbie and due to my work I use ACD Labs 12.0. This is a free for academia NMR processing software available only for windows. I am running it through a Virtual XP machine but I wanted to see if it would run using Wine. The program installed fine, and when I started it for the first time everything was swell. At last I could run pretty much everything I need from

nmbd
I am having a lot of problems with nmbd. Basically it refuses to open its socket to listen on. I have checked, and the reason cannot be that the port is in use, as I can set any port with the -p switch, and I get the same error. The relevant part of the nmb log is: Netbios name list:- my_netbios_names[0]="DIRAC" lp_file_list_changed() file /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf ->

I think it does so and
