windows 7 unable to join domain
Hi,
I'm currently running Samba3x-3.3.8-0.51 on CentOS 5.5. I currently have
many Windows XP clients associated with the domain and behaving correctly.
However, I am unable to join a Windows 7 PC. I receive "The specified
network name is no longer available."
I've verified that DNS is configured correctly, and as stated XP machines
have no problem joining.
Per some googling,

FW: making BDC samba + ldap server
Is this Samba 3 or Samba 4?
If samba 3, which ldap server are you using>
What is the mail server? Does the mail server have its own LDAP server
included it or is also using an external LDAP server.
If you want replication between LDAP servers, they should be the same type
of LDAP server (e.g. OpenLDAP or Apache Directory Server or Oracle Directory
Server.) If you have one

Set ACLs on Samba share from Windows
I can't seem to verify whether or my first attempt at sending this
message was successful, so I'm reposting it, using a different method. I
apologize if anyone has seen it already.
I have a Samba server, joined to my Windows Active Directory domain, and
I'm having a problem setting ACLs on a share from Windows. On Windows, I

two PDCs
Hello,
I have a PDC with master ldap backend and a BDC with slave ldap backend
(both are SaMBa 3.2 on Debian Lenny). I want to install an additional SaMBa
server on an another site (on Debian Squeeze). The two sites is connected
with VPN (on not so reliable ADSL lines). I read an interesting network
scenario in the Samba Guide chapter 6: theoretically it is possible to
install one PDC on both

WG: Cross subnet browsing + OpenVPN
What about your openvpn config?
The tun net must have an entry in your hosts allow.
If you work with briding the remote network has to be the same subnet as the
local!?
Bridging is the best way to have a remote net integrated.
I have one logging in form Berlin on my Samba-Domain.

samba 4.0.6 getent group
Hello all listies.
I've got samba4.0.6 running on FreeBSD 9.1.
Joined W2K12 domain as member server.
running getent group I noticed it takes a long time to resolve groups.
The result is correct, but it is inordinately long.
With 3.6.13 on FreeBSD 9.1 the return is nearly instantaneous.
smb4.conf looks like this.

workgroup = TMS3
security = ADS
realm = TMS3.COM

Samba setting read only on document on share
Hello all
How do you allow someone in a particular group (i.e. the group writers in my
example below) other than the creator of a file (the owner) to set a
document as being read only? This is the only problem I am facing with my
samba shares at the mo which I need to fix, so any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Hope this makes sense!

sysvol acl's broken beyond repair
ok, I've investigated the problem more closely. First of all, I didn't
mention that I have 2 domain controllers: dc(initial) and bdc (backup).
Rsync command
/usr/bin/rsync -XAavz --delete-after dc:/usr/local/samba/var/locks/sysvol/*
/usr/local/samba/var/locks/sysvol/
fires every 5 minutes on bdc.
However, if I try to gpupdate from bdc I get the above error. Gpupdating
from dc works

MUST use the same WINS server for trusts to work. Why have two
domains?

ACLs and winbind
I'm trying to allow XP clients to add ACLs in the homes share.
It appears that I'm unable to do it unless I use winbind
although I'm in a pure Samba/OpenLDAP environment.
I have a PDC and BDC with Samba/OpenLDAP
and a member Samba server with homes and profiles (below
is its smb.conf) on which I have Posix ACLs.
If I comment out the idmap lines I cannot add ACLs from XP

can connect to 2 samba servers by name but to one by IP only
I have a samba domain with a Samba 3.4.x PDC (compiled from source on
Solaris 10) and two Samba 3.0.x BDC's (Sun-bundled Samba on Solaris 10.)
XP clients use DHCP. When on the LAN, DHCP includes WINS server (the WINS
server is one of the Samba 3.0.x machines.)
We also have a VPN for remote client access for Windows XP machines. XP
machines could include home PC's (not in the domain)

Hm, can I fix it manually? Maybe sysvolcheck stumbles on the first error
and misses something more severe later on.

Prevent smbd from consulting winbindd
Colleagues,
I am running smbd in a setup described in
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/idmapper.html#id2604553
under "Winbind is not used; users and groups are local". Samba is
running in the security=domain mode, but all Windows users are being
mapped to Unix users in /etc/passwd.
Now I need to run winbindd for Squid authentication. The problem is,

To anyone successfully using NT ACLs with Samba
When you re-open the properties of an existing file or
directory with ACLs set on it from a Windows workstation, do
you see the usernames and group names properly? Or do you see
SIDs in the dialog box as I do? Just gathering data. If you are
seeing usernames and group names properly I'd love to see
your smb.conf file. In my case, the Samba server is an
AD domain member.

Samba 4 Cleanup Managing and Otherwise
OK, there has got to be a way to work with this thing other than
wiping the Domain every time an error pops up.
Trying to resolve problems I did a git upgrade and:

Which provided the unhelpful:
Found 3 domain controllers, for the moment upgradeprovision is not

Preserving ACLs on files when copying from NT4 server to Samba 3.0.5 server
Hi guys.
I'm running:
Mandrake 9.2
Kernel 2.4.22-30mdk
XFS file system
Samba 3.0.5 plus patches for bugs 1315, 1319 and 1345 (self compiled)
OpenLDAP 2.1.22-5mdk
smbldap-tools 0.8.5
I was able to join the Samba to the NT PDC as a BDC and vampire without
issue. I have setup duplicate shares on Samba and am trying to copy
over the data from NT. I have tried scopy, xcopy and copying via
