Is this Samba 3 or Samba 4?

What is the mail server? Does the mail server have its own LDAP server
included it or is also using an external LDAP server.
If you want replication between LDAP servers, they should be the same type

PDC / BDC in a Samba Domain Controller.
Hello
I makeing a Domain Controller with Samba (v3.0.33) and LDAP (v2.4).
I will install a PDC in the headquarter and a BDC in the subsidiary of
the company that I work.
The PDC and the BDC will have his own LDAP data base.
I just install the PDC without problems and my next step is to install
the BDC.
I configured the LDAP that work in multi master mode. I made some test
and the LDAP works

Samba, OpenLDAP and Passwords
Hi,
I have an existing OpenLDAP directory, that I want to use as the backend for
a Samba 3 instance.
I do not want for now making Samba a Domain Controller, but only define in
it some shares accessible by users on LDAP.
I have imported in my slapd.conf the samba schema, and I have inserted in my
smb.conf all the directives for connecting to an LDAP server:

FreeBSD 9.1 - openldap slapd lockups, mutex problems
Hi.
(Im am sending this to the "stable" list, because it maybe kernel related.. )
On 9.1-RELEASE I am witnessing lockups of the openldap slapd daemon.
The slapd runs for some days and then hangs, consuming high amounts of CPU.
In this state slapd can only be restarted by SIGKILL.

Using dovecot sasl for authenticating in openldap
Hi,
I am using dovecot imaps and exim, both authenticating using dovecot-sasl. To keep passwords in one place I would like
to authenticate openldap users over dovecot-sasl.
So looking at this page:
http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin24/security.html
I figure it could be done using Pass-Through authentication.
For this, I need to create
/usr/lib/sasl2/slapd.conf
And adding a few config

openldap package compilation flags?
Hello All.
How do I find out what flags were used to compile
the Centos openldap-2.3.27-8.el5_2.4 rpm package?
I'm specifically wondering if it was compiled with
--enable-lmpasswd
Thanks!

access to * by dn="cn=repl,dc=felix,dc=local" write

samba 4.0.6 getent group
Hello all listies.
I've got samba4.0.6 running on FreeBSD 9.1.
Joined W2K12 domain as member server.
running getent group I noticed it takes a long time to resolve groups.
The result is correct, but it is inordinately long.
With 3.6.13 on FreeBSD 9.1 the return is nearly instantaneous.
smb4.conf looks like this.

Samba-LDAP TLS problems with inofficial Debian OpenLDAP 2.2 packages
Dear Torsten, dear samba list reader
Three days ago I switched our domain from a NT 4 domaincontroller to
Samba-OpenLDAP, controlled by a Debian Sarge system. I installed the
following inofficial Debian OpenLDAP 2.2 packages (I know these are not
supported, but TLS with OpenSSL is essential to us...):
Package: slapd
Version: 2.2.20-1.hrz.1
Package: libldap2.2
Version: 2.2.20-1.hrz.1

nss_ldap: reconnected to LDAP server ldap://127.0.0.1
Hello, I have a problem that I'm really having trouble figuring out. I
run CentOS Linux 5.5. I have three servers. All have been setup and
running with LDAP authentication for a couple years with absolutely no
problems.
Unfortunately a couple weeks ago, we had a power outage. Ever since, I
am having continuous problems with authentication to the server. I see

Getting slapd under CentOS 6 to log connections, etc.
I am running the stock OpenLDAP-servers on a CentOS 6 system. Everything is
working just fine, but I am trying to debug connections from a Ubuntu (18.04)
system and want to turn on logging in slapd, but although I can get slapd to
create a log file, it never actually writes anything.
I have these two lines in /etc/openldap/slapd.d/cn=config.ldif:
olcLogFile: /var/log/slapd/log

Base ldap access file.
Hi,
Having set up a few Samba-ldap installations, I always end up with the
feeling that OpenLDAP ACLs is what took time. The following patches /
scripts might help someone else.
I would appreciate some input on the access.conf.pl file so that it is
even better tuned.
Mr Tournier and the sambateam: Please include the files you find
usefull.
The attached files are:

LDAP items that might help for How-to
Might want to include the following command in LDAP config incase LDAP
doesn't start.
slapd -u ldap -g ldap -d -1
This command pointed out that I hadn't copied my samba.schema to the
/etc/openldap/schema directory. Might want to put that in the doc before you
start LDAP. A newbie like me might pass over that little detail while
following the instructions...

Request to update slapd.conf and OpenLDAP info for Samba-Guide/happy.html
Dear Team,
The OpenLDAP stuff on this page:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html
is not the preferred backend, i.e. ldbm, it really, really needs to be bdb.
See:
http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?_highlightWords=bdb%20ldbm&file=1085
"ldbm uses a neutral storage interface which in principle could wrap dbm,
ndbm, gdbm or sleepycat as underlying storage;

And the LDIF thing
Sorry.. One more email.. I tried to create the IDMAP container on the LDAP with an example I found:
dn: ou=Idmap,dc=softeng,dc=com
objectClass: organizationalUnit
ou: idmap
structuralObjectClass: organizationalUnit
and it gives:
adding new entry "ou=Idmap,dc=softeng,dc=com"

Question about SSL/TLS for ldap and samba

Hi,
I read in samba-howto-collection :
