Access to a share resource without password
Dear, I have a Linux Samba server and a Windows XP SP2 client joined
to the "g-company.net" domain.
I want to access a Linux share resource in /var/share without password
from WXP desktop FROM ANY USER.
This is my scenario:
- I don't create any Linux local user because I want total access from any user
- I use security = share
- My smbusers file is:
root = administrator admin

smbclient doesn't work from cron
Dear, I run this command from my Linux box in order to upload a file
to a Windows machine and it works OK:
/usr/bin/smbclient \\\\windows-server\"backup db"$ -U jelo 123456 -c
"lcd /root;put mysql-dump.sql"
But when I try to run the same command from /etc/crontab, it fails:

Basic question for user/pass authentication
Dear, I have Debian + Samba and I've created a smb.conf in order to
authenticate users I've created with "useradd -s /bin/false" and after
that added to samba with "smbpasswd -a user".
I've created the share in /var/share with rwxrwxrwx.
I edited some lines from smb.conf in GLOBAL and SHARE sections.
I use:
security = user
but when from the Windows machine I

Samab-4.10.15 running in FreeBSD Jail
I just wish to ensure that my conclusion respecting Samba, FreeBSD Jails, and
NTP is correct.
1. Unless configured otherwise Windows domain clients will query and obtain
their time from the samba_server DC.
2. Samba_server obtains its time from the OS, in this case a FreeBSD Jail.
3. FreeBSD Jails get their time from their host.

Hi David,
Configured as you mention, and prior with the other tweaks I had in the first place, Im getting the same results, which is "FSUTIL utility requires a Local NTFS Volume", and mapping it.
I then went to contig, `contig -n X:\share\sparesefile 0`, as well as a few other size. Maybe im using it wrong, but some testing on contig has only "Access is denied" when I try

W2KSP2 vs W2KSP2RP1 - failed logon to Samba 2.2.6
Hello, samba.
I upgraded samba 2.2.5 to samba 2.2.6 in Debian 3.0. Both versions was
built myself by script "rules binary".
Before:
Our network have a few of W2KSP2.rus and a few of W2KSP2RP1.rus. All
workstations can logon to samba 2.2.5.
After:
W2KSP2.rus can't login to samba 2.2.6, though W2KSP2RP1.rus still can
logon to PDC on samba 2.2.6. W2KSP2 tells me, that it can not find

WinXP cant connect Samba_Server which can connect WinXP for files sharing
Hi All Folks.
I encountered following problem
WinXP can't connect Samba_Server but Samba_Server can connect WinXP for
files sharing
WinXP box and Samba_Server are connected directly via a crossover cable as
experiment. Firewall of WinXP is off and ipchains on Samba_Server also off.
(Remark: The WinXP box has been tested via direct connection with a
crossover cable to a WinME box/Win98

Samba-4.10.13 IPv6 turn it off
I am working on a FreeBSD jail (12.1p4) using samba410. I have joined this
service to our existing Samab DC DOMAIN using samba-tool domain join. This
worked as far as I can tell.
I have these entries in smb4.conf
# BOF
# Global parameters
[global]
netbios name = SAMBA-02
realm = BROCKLEY-2016.HARTE-LYNE.CA
server role = active directory domain controller

No. The error is not caused by anything else listening on 137.

Samba Server Not Browseable
Hello-
I am in the process of upgrading our NT 3.51 to NT 4.0
but have run into a problem:
We have Samba 1.9.14 running on a UnixWare 2.1 machine.
With the NT 3.51 machines the Samba Serveris not visible
in the Network Neightborhood, but it can be easily accessed
by specifying where one wants to connect.
NT 4.0 doesn't seem to have this option.
So, 1) can someone tell me HOW to make

Samba as DC and Profiles
Greetings,
I'm using a Samba server as a Domain Controller and Logon Server. I use
Home directories for the storage of files etc. However, I wish to just keep
the Desktop, Start Menu etc. locally. How can I accomplish this? My
problem is that I sometimes put a temp folder on my desktop and have large
files in it, I then delete it when finished. However it makes logging in

Not much unfortunately.
Running this:
net cache list
will tell you what the cache thinks it contains. If it is filled with
real things, it could indicate where they're coming from. If it fails or
shows a cache full of nonsense, well that is also interesting.

after the install, I add the line to FreeBSD /etc/rc.conf file - samba_enable="YES"
Reboot the server and an error appears - WARNING /var/db/samba is not a directory

Samba as a PDC with LDAP and Kerberos
I've been searching and researching this and I can't seem to find the
answers I'm looking for. I'd like to setup a Samba PDC that Windows
clients will join. The PDC will use an LDAP backend to get authorization
information (username, home directory, etc). The authentication portion
is handled by an MIT Kerberos KDC. I think I'm real close to having it
all together but I'm
