upg. CentOS 7.5 to 7.6: unable to mount smb shares - samba NT domain member using ldap
Originally I posted this question at CentOS forum 20.12.2018. https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=69193 Hi all, I am not able to mount samba shares after upgrading CentOS 7.5 to 7.6. I have been searching and trying to configure samba and winbind but no success. I find a lot of manuals and help pages about setting samba and winbind for machine acting as AD DC member but

samba 3.0.23a + ldap as PDC - should work, but why?
I've got an issue with roaming profiles with samba 3.0.23a and an LDAP backend. I can use the ldap to authenticate an NT and a local user, and I know alot about PAM, NSS, and general linux. BUT, I can't get ANY roaming profiles to work. Other than my domain name changed for security purposes, the following is my smb.conf file. (I first used SWAT, then did more customization)

PDC/BDC Questions
Software: OS: Redhat 9 Samba Ver: Samba 3.0.0 (Plus excel writelock patch, waiting for 3.0.2!) OpenLDAP Ver: 2.0.27-8 Just a quick question about PDC / BDC interaction, my plan is to distribute Samba (with slave ldap backend) BDCs to remote facilities, as well as have one on each network segment in the hopes of avoiding unnecessary nmb broadcast traffic. My question is this: Will the PDC /

share write access
Hi, I am testing share parameters, and have the following share definition: ## Section - [shareA] [shareA] path = /tmp/shareA writelist = user1 and do not understand why user1 cannot write files in the share when connected as user1. Unix permissions for the share files are rw for everyone, and the share directory has wide-open permissions. Samba version is 3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE.

How to - Samba, winbind and Active Directory
Hi, I finally was able to to get samba/winbind to authenticate off W2k3 Active Directory. I seen a lot of info on the web on how to do this but I never seem to have one site that got me through it all. Anyway, with all the info I gathered I was able to put it all together, get it working and documented all the steps I used. I'm running Redhat 4 (2.6.9-55.0.2) with compiled Samba 3.0.25c

configuring samba for virtualbox guest os host only network
Dear samba users: I am new on this list and know samba at a very basic level. I use openSUSE 42.2 Leap with its default samba 4.4.2 version. This is what I would like to achieve: I have a guest windows OS in virtualbox 5.1. Occasionally I have to print documents from this guest OS using my printer configured in openSUSE. I would like to use samba to share my printer between the linux host and

Is that possible to create profiles shares into group structure?
Hi. I'm using Samba + OpenLDAP. Samba version 3.4.9. Everything is working fine. But I would like to put the roaming user profiles in a directory structure considering the group of the users. For example, for now I have: /home/company/profiles/user1 /home/company/profiles/user2 /home/company/profiles/user3 And I would like to use: /home/company/profiles/financial/user1

Issues with remote call setup
Hello list, I would like to seek your expert opinion on a setup I am trying as part of my research. I have not been able to successfully make a call so far. In my setup, I use two laptops that are interconnected by means of a stand-alone IS1581 switch. Thus there is no LAN involved. I have assigned static IPs to the two laptops, say 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2. I have installed Asterisk 1.6.2.6 and

Help needed with Windows7 roaming files.
Hi all, We've been trying to setup/upgrade a samba PDC (version 3.56) with OpenLDAP as backend and roaming profiles for Windows7 (32bit) Clients. windows7 has no problem with login after applying the reg patches, however, it seems to always load a temporary profile as opposed to roaming one for users, no local profile is created. this has caused Outlook 2010 to function improperly

Samba problem
Hello, My only hard drive failed on a private server so I had to replace it and reinstall Centos 6.5 and Samba. My smb.conf file is OK according to "testparm". I configured smb and nmb, with chkconfig, to start when the system boots. After the system boots if I do "service nmb status" I get the response "nmbd dead but pid file exists". I can delete the pid file

3.x to 4.x (classic PDC) migration & group mapping problems
Hi Samba wizards! Thanks in advance for your support! I am working on migrating an existing Samba 3.x PDC to new hardware, Samba 4.x and, eventually, LDAP. I'm finding out in the process that I don't understand it at all :-) Old configuration was 3.x as PDC, with tdbsam backend. Both NIS and winbind are running on the same server (as well as smb and nmb of course). Since I want the

Power failure diagnosis?
This morning between 07:10 or so and 08:10 I discovered that my PC had shut itself off. I thought it was due to a power failure becuase I never turn it off without a good reason, and it had been running (and playing sounds) until it wasn't. My roommate/landlord tells me that the only anomaly he observed was that our router had lost its internet connection (via a cable modem, which was still

Running smb without nmb? (Linux Suse 8.1 feature)
I recently upgraded my Linux distro to SuSE 8.1 which came w/samba 2.2.5. A feature of the upgrade was that it 'split' the startup script for samba from 1 script for _smb_ & _nmb_ to 2 scripts. Now the prologue (used by insserv to create the numbered startup scripts with dynamic numbering based on dependencies in the prologues of all the startup scripts for a given run level) says

Load profile cross subnet
Hi, I used samba+ldap in rh 8.0. I have master ldap with 192.168.1.1 and slave ldap with 192.168.2.1. I config attribute "profilePath:\\192.168.2.1\my-domain\profiles\user1" in ldap for user1. When user1 login at 192.168.1.5 (in the same subnet as master ldap), he can't load profile from 192.168.2.1. Suppose that I already config dns , router completely and master and slave can
