Moving a computer from a down domain to a new domain
I had been running a samba server, the AMAHI F12 distro, that has samba 3.4.9. It ran well enough, but I was planning on replacing it with ClearOS. Well monday night I lost my server harddrive, so now it is crunch time to update/upgrade. I think I have ClearOS configured properly, it is running samba 3.6.10 (Redhat 6.4 based). So far I have tried to add two of my XP systems to the new

Shutting down WinXP Pro instance
Recently I set up a PDC (Fedora 12 - I'm using this for a specific reason) using Samba 3.4.9 and OpenLDAP 2.4.19; I named my domain ATHOME. I am trying to figure out how to shut down WinXP Pro remotely and I'm not having any luck. Up to this point I have tried the following: - I used ATHOME\root which is the admin acct I used to join XP to my domain. I added ATHOME\root to my

Samba server choices
I have been running a customized version Amahi for a couple years for my Samba server. It is time for an upgrade, and I will be moving away from Amahi, as they have abandoned Fedora for Ubuntu. Back when I selected Amahi to replace my 15 year old NT server, I looked around and only considered SME Server as an alternative, but they were still on Centos 4.7 with the Centos 5 based version

HD Partition Lost??
Help! I am running FC1, with a maxtor 160GB HD installed. Drive is only about a month old. I had just finished moving data from an older HD that was making some funny sounds and throwing some random errors. All was well. Last night we lost power for several hours and 1 machine's UPS/shutdown system didn't power down the workstation. The other 7 in our office did fine. The power

Problem with trust relationship
Hello everyone, I have a Samba 3.4.7 + OpenLDAP working as PDC. Since this morning, some computers, mainly the ones with Windows 7, are getting trust relationship problems and I cannot find the source of the problem. All my windows boxes do automatic updates, and there was a pack of 9 or 10 updates yesterday, but i don't know if this have some relation with the problem. I don't know

Samba and OpenLDAP - success?
All, I've spent almost two months learning about setting up Samba and OpenLDAP for SSO. I was finally able to get it done (at least for Win XP Pro at this point) and I've compiled some notes on how I did it. The latest copy of my notes will be at the link below: http://bit.ly/smbldapsetup I've also discovered during my travels in Google-land that when you try a potentially useful

Some questions
After years of delays and side trips, I really am going to dive in and build my own Samba server. And I have a few questions. All of my servers will be ARM. The main hardware will be Cubieboards (2 and truck). They will be running Centos-7 once the development is finished. For now I am using Fedora 22 arm. My backup file server will be a pogoplug (armv5) with Redsleeve 7.1. My current

windows 7 unable to join domain
Hi, I'm currently running Samba3x-3.3.8-0.51 on CentOS 5.5. I currently have many Windows XP clients associated with the domain and behaving correctly. However, I am unable to join a Windows 7 PC. I receive "The specified network name is no longer available." I've verified that DNS is configured correctly, and as stated XP machines have no problem joining. Per some googling,

Now the scenario: I bought a new cool dell laptop: INSPIRON 8100, 512MB RAM, NVIDEA GeForce2Go 32MB, 30GB Hitachi hard disk and a DVD. I bought it with WinME preinstalled, because it wasn't possible to get it with linux nor without an

Roaming Profiles:Samba PDC:WinXP:User must be local admin
I'm having a problem with Roaming profiles in Windows XP with Samba as PDC. I've googled and trolled the mailing lists and read the Samba documentation. Problem: User logs onto domain from WinXP client and profile is downloaded (you can tell because it takes a long time and lights on hub are lit up). However, unless that user is in the admin group locally, all/some of the profile

Fw: PDC/wins on multiple networks
Hi, The pc that runs the samba server is my own property, it also dubs as router and dhcp server. I assign WINS server to the clients by dhcp using dnsmasq. I do not need or want to setup a domain. I just want to share files between the two networks using windows neighborhood and a workgroup, just like the clients would have been connected in the same network. I have deleted the "remote
