Changing passwords from Windows
Is it possible for a user to change his/her password from Windows? I tried it
out last night as a test user against my PDC and it only changed for Samba; I
was still able to log into the PDC via SSH using the previous password. (I
changed it for the test user as root and it took for both SSH and Windows.)
I tried to use smbldap-passwd as the test user, but I got a message back saying

Shutting down WinXP Pro instance
Recently I set up a PDC (Fedora 12 - I'm using this for a specific reason) using Samba 3.4.9 and OpenLDAP 2.4.19; I named my domain ATHOME. I am trying to figure out how to shut down WinXP Pro remotely and I'm not having any luck. Up to this point I have tried the following:
- I used ATHOME\root which is the admin acct I used to join XP to my domain. I added ATHOME\root to my

LCD blanks out overnight
I inherited an ancient Dell Latitude C840 and recently installed CentOS 5.2 on it. It worked fine for the most part, but when I left it overnight and came back the next morning, the screen blacked out and wouldn't come back unless I did a hard reset. Even though I turned off all the power management settings and left it set like a desktop, the next morning after that it still blacked out. I

repost: SELinux questions, upon restarting BIND
As this remains an issue for me, I'm reposting. Please forgive the redundancy, but I've been unable to find the answer and am hoping for some guidance.
Thanks in advance,

Win 7 profiles
I?ve got a laptop running Win 7 Pro registered with my Samba/OpenLDAP PDC and it seems to not be handling roaming profiles properly when I reboot and log in. More often than not, it would take a long time logging in because it would recreate entirely new profile trees (eg. jtseng.ATHOME, jtseng.ATHOME.001, jtseng.ATHOME.002, jtseng.ATHOME.003 and so on). Could someone clue me in as to why this

IAX Peer/auth issues WAS: Netlogic inbound DID issue
Has something changed in the recent modifications to Asterisk that would
break dialing of the IAX peer? We're getting these authority failures
everywhere.
Everything is configured just the way it was half a year ago, this is
the message we're getting on the most recent vers of asterisk. Wiki says
nothing, nor does the ast-dev list..

[KVM] reporting VM state
I recently set up a CentOS 6.2 hypervisor and created a Win2k8 virtual machine.? In order to save space and time backing up the VM, I want to minimize the amt of unused disk space in the VM.
Does KVM have the built-in ability to view the amt of free space left in a VM?? Or is this feature I have to create myself to have the hypervisor and VM aware of each other?

Updating keywords on copy/move
Hello,
I'm working on my virtual keywords plugin [1] to add an apparently
simple feature: add a keyword to a message when it is moved or copied
into a virtual folder (let's forget about what keyword to add, I'm
starting with a hard-coded one to understand Dovecot plugin
development).
So I've added a mail_copy hook by the notify plugin [2] and did a
simple call to

tinc vs. ipchains masquerading
Howdy,
I tried tackling this on irc with Ivo, but I suspect that irc may really
not be the best medium for technical discussions, so I'll reprise it here.
I am trying to duplicate the "tinc from behind a masquerading firewall"
example from the tinc web site:
(home) <--> (masquerading firewall) <--> (office)

Rolling upgrade from 3.6.3 to 3.10.5
Hi Diego,
Just to clarify, so did you do an offline upgrade with an existing cluster
(3.6.x => 3.10.x)?
Thanks.

Good practices to make a Kerberos "mount.cifs" launched by root but with the credentials of another user
Hi,
I have a Debian Stretch computer which is a "samba4 member
server" of an Samba4 AD domain (versions etc. are mentioned
at the end of the message). I think my config is OK and I
can open a _graphical_ session with an AD account user. The
display manager of the computer is Lightdm. For for instance,
I can open a graphical session with the AD account bob (uid

Rolling upgrade from 3.6.3 to 3.10.5
Yes, I did an offline upgrade.
1. Stop all clients using gluster servers.
2. Stop glusterfsd and glusterd on both servers.
3. Backed up /var/lib/gluster* in all servers just to be safe.
4. Upgraded all servers from 3.6.x to 3.10.x (I did not have quotas or
anything that required special steps)
5. Started gluster daemons again and confirmed everything was fine
prior to letting clients connect.
5.

R in Linux Redhat 9.0
Hi, my name is Bryan and I just installed R on my Redhat 9.0. I
imported the key from the net as directed, and tested the integreity
of the rpm package- it was fine. I then went ahead and installed the
i386.rpm package and the installation was carried to completion.
However, now I have a hard time finding and opening R, which I just
installed. Does someone know what's going on? I'm a

Couter Cache for 2 Parents?
Hi,
I''ve got a question about counter cache; here''s my setup:
I have 3 model classes, A, B, and C.
A has many C.
B has many C.
C belongs to both A and B.
Now I''d like to keep counters of C in both A and B for performance reasons.
According to the rails book, this doesn''t seem to be possible, as the counter
feature requires changes to be made through the object

Here is a nasty one: (0.65.1 on linux)

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Seems the bug is in errorcall().
yes, I know the syntax is wrong, but it is an easy mistake
to make and it is inconvenient to lose the work space at times.

Samba server doesn't announce itself.
Hi
I'm running two Samba Servers on the same network.
One if the servers announces itself correctly, and I can see it
as a member of the "AtHome" workgroup from a Windows Box.
I set up a second server on the same network, but that
box does not appear to announce itself. If I added the
second server to the PC's hosts file, I can access it
by entering \\ServerName in explorer.

[PLUGIN] Virtual keywords (aka Gmail-like labels)
Hello list,
I'm new here and since I've been working on a plugin lately I though
I'd post it here.
It's GPL licensed, hosted on GitHub:
https://github.com/daniele-athome/dovecot-virtual-keywords-plugin
I've been trying to find a replacement for Gmail and I already have my
own mailserver. What I'm missing very much is labels. Since folders
don't really match labels, I

[PLUGIN] Virtual keywords (aka Gmail-like labels)
As a matter of fact I use the virtual plugin to achieve what I want. I
create dovecot-virtual configuration files.
But if I understand you correctly, your approach is a system-wide
configuration. Labels are per-user and dynamic by definition.
