So no conversion from group_mapping.ldb to group_mapping.tdb?
Greetings,
I recently upgraded an AD member server from Samba 3.5.15 to Samba 3.6.9
and found that I had lost all the existing local group mappings.
I see that the group mapping file has gone from group_mapping.ldb to
group_mapping.tdb.
I asked on this list as well as searching the web, Samba documentation
(which still seems focused on version 3.5), and Samba Wiki and found
nothing on a

First 8 bytes of the value of keys in group_mapping.tdb
I'm trying to build a hack to add/modify a groupmap entry in the
group_mapping.tdb file by hand. What I'd like to do is to manually
perform something like this:
echo -e "open group_mapping.tdb\ninsert my_key my_value\nq" | tdbtool
In this attempt, I expect to add a new group map entry in the tdb file.
The key I'm using is the same as samba uses: domain_group/SID. I'm

Dear Samba friends,
I have recently upgraded from Samba 3.0.36 to Samba 3.5.6. After upgrade I

3.0.0 -> 3.0.1 : group_mapping.tdb perms
Hello,
I'm running Samba 3.0.0 on a PDC server with LDAP.
I tested the latest version (3.0.1) on a test server with the same
config files.
But I get the following message in my logs if
/var/lib/samba/group_mapping.tdb 's mode is set to 600 (like it is set
in my 3.0.0 server).

Can not grant SeMachineAccountPrivilege on Debian Etch
I am testing out Debian Etch, and ran into an issue granting SeMachineAccountPrivilege to an account... which granting that permission had been troublesome in the past.
The command I am issuing is:
net rpc rights grant LDS-DEMO\\ldsinst SeMachineAccountPrivilege
And I try running the command with an account that is a member of the "Domain Admins" group.
The command returns:

Question about tdb files
Hi list
I'm running a samba 3.0.24 with an ldap backend and as a print server.
The server is also serving printer drivers for my Windows clients.
If more information is needed please let me know.
I have a question about tdb files.
Some of my tdb files haven't been touched since my installation in
december 2005 and I'm thinking if this is something I should consider
critical or not.

Hi,
Does someone know a document which explains the TDB structure.
functionalites, and format of the TDB files etc.
I need to understand why some of the TDBs like messages.tdb, unexpected.tdb,
brlock if not read_only, locking.tdb, session.tdb, wins.tdb are called with
TDB_CLEAR_IF_FIRST tdb flags.
Why some TDBs are opend with O_RDWR|O_CREAT flags viz. gencache.tdb,

Samba Group Mapping
Hi All
I have Samba 3.2.11 installed on Suse (sles 10) machine. I am playing
around the group mapping functionality. When I map a linux group to nt
group. I can see that groups is visible on windows client. But, if I
restart the smbd daemon (while changing the scurity mode for ads to user
or vice versa), I can no more see the mapped group to the the Windows
client. Though, I was able to see

group mapping question
Hi All,
Just a general question about groups. I am upgrading a
Samba workgroup, server to a PDC. I have been reading:
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/groupmapping.html#id2589321
In this link, they tell of how to map a windows group to
a Samba group
net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=domadm rid=512 type=d

Nmbd crash with failure to open wins.tdb
Hello,
I've found this issue reported only once before but no real answer was
provided/found.
I am trying to migrate from an old 2.0.7 server, but the bundled
install 3.0.24 on FC6 is giving me major pain. Putting aside the
actual configuration and user migration which I need to figure out,
the problem is that nmbd refuses to start with the following errors in
the log:

Samba PDC (3.0.24)
Hi All,
I've been reading *lots* of pages and guides everywhere about setting up
samba as a PDC, mainly the 8 part guide by John Terpstra.
One common thing I found in all the guides I read were unstated
dependancies on the Samba version.
Tried it using 3.0.9 and it didn't have any rights (I found something
somewhere saying this eventually).
Then tried it using Debians default of
