Chinese fonts not displayed properly
Hi,
I've got Chinese Windows application that appears to have a problem with
Chinese fonts under wine (emulating Windows 98). It's available from here:

filename is setup_dzh5_fuyi.exe. When running "wine setup_dzh5_fuyi.exe" from
a console, I get get to see a window full of garbage characters (see

FLAC CD Archive
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

The recent discussions about archiving CDs with flac prodded me to get
abcde working again. I've filed a debian bug report with patches to the
latest abcde that enable generating a toc file from the disc with cdrdao
(rips CD-TEXT data and creates index points from subcode data).
Combined with my patches to toc2cue, this is enough to rip even

metaflac crashes adding cuesheet
Erik,
I don't know what abcde would be providing as tags, or why on Earth it
would be importing that from stdin. Unfortunately, abcde is a bash
script, and so not exactly easy for me to read. I haven't gotten any
response from posting on their mailing list.
I do get the same crash when running metaflac without the
--import-tags-from,
so I'm not sure this is the problem. Unless

read.spss (package foreign) and character columns
Dear R users!
I am using R Version 1.7.1, Windows XP, package "foreign" (Version: 0.6-1),
SPSS 11.5.1.
There is one thing I noticed with "read.spss", and I'd like to ask if this
is considered to be a feature, or possibly a bug:
When reading character columns, character strings seem to get filled with
blanks at the end.
Simple example:
In SPSS, create a file with one

metaflac crashes adding cuesheet
Erik,
The command used by abcde is
metaflac --no-utf8-convert
--import-cuesheet-from=/home/me/Audio/abcde.50107806/cue-50107806.txt
--import-tags-from=- /home/me/Audio/abcde.50107806/track1.flac
but I get the same result re-trying without the --no-utf8-convert
and -no-utf8-convert.
Here's the cuesheet:

mount.cifs and kerberos failure
Hi guys,
This seems to be a well-known problem with mount.cifs on Ubuntu 12.04. Unfortunately, although I have applied the suggestions I found with google, I can't seem to be able to get mount.cifs to work with kerberos. I am trying to use kerberos to mount my Windows shares because this is the only allowed secure way in my company to connect to shares. Before anyone asks, I can successfully

dddraw unable to draw in CVS
Hi,
I often build wine every 2 or 3 days from cvs source, and I recognize
that there are updates around x11drv, ddraws, and d3d8/9 at these days.
4 or 5 days ago, where I found that ddraws are unable to draw at all
(was still working wine 0.9.15) in some games/programs which use it.
Ones use GDI and OpenGL seem fine. Here is an example of win32 binary
which is Snes9x, an emulator of a console,

"vorbiscomment"
Hello,
I'd like to use abcde to rip my CD:s to Ogg Vorbis format - but abcde wants
a "vorbiscomment" in my PATH. I assume it's a tool for inserting meta-data
into Ogg Vorbis files, but where do I get it? The vorbis-tools package
doesn't seem to contain it.
(Platform: Linux)
Thanks!

OpenGL issues with Counter Strike
Hello,
I recently switched my OS to Ubuntu Dapper Drake amd64 (I used Breezy
before) and now I'm facing strange issues regarding Counter Strike (old
version, not "Source") via Steam. Steam starts up fine, but if I want to
launch the game, the terminal puts out this error-message:
err:wgl:X11DRV_ChoosePixelFormat glXChooseFBConfig returns NULL (glError: 0)

Proxy support ?
Hi,
Some programs, which requires network, do not support proxy mechanism
such as SOCKS5. There is a tool called proxychains
(http://proxychains.sf.net) which provides us to redirect all of the
network traffic to a defined server can be SOCKS4, 5, or others. For
instance, I can use
proxychains wget http://www.google.com
to download the homepage of google if I am behind the proxy. This is

FLAC CD Archive
Hi,
Bit late to join in the discussion but I've just read through the CD
archiving discussion and was particular interested in Dax's method,
described here (also included below):

So far I've just been flac-ing my CDs to individual one-flac-per-track
files, however it appears I've been missing some of the other bits

Samba SID/RID, UID/GID Best Practices?
I have a new Samba 3 domain backed by LDAP. I am using Fedora-DS for
LDAP component, so I have relied on a blend of tools to get up and
running including Fedora-DS console and phpLDAPAdmin and (momentarily!)
sambaldap-tools. I am generally following the great IDEALX How-To but
having to adapt it somewhat.
Standards for well-know Samba groups like "Domain Admins" were easy to

help needed about SID to UID/GID mapping
Dear all
I need some advise with respect to SID/UID/GID mapping.
The server runs Samba 3.5.8 as a member of an AD (w2k8)
domain. Our UNIX UIDs are taken from the 1000-60000 range
with about 10000 allocated accounts. 99% of user IDs
exist in AD with the same name. For that reason we rely
on the "nss" idmap backend which is non-allocating.
The problem comes with the group mappings.
