winbindd hangs up while retreiving users
Hello.
I'm installing new FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE, based on intel machine. Firewall
type is OPEN.
I have Windows Server 2000 with Active Directory on it, working in Native
mode.
I've installed samba-3.0.23c_2,1 from /usr/ports/net/samba3
prefix=/usr/local
without krb-1.5.1 being installed.

msdfs root -- client error "refers to a location that is unavailable"
I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.28 to work as an MS Dfs root providing a share
that links home directories to the actual servers they reside on.
Unfortunately, when I access the share from a Windows XP client, and try to
open one of the directories, the client gives an error that it "refers to a
location that is unavailable".
I've done a lot of searching, and found a number of

SMB signing broken? 3.0.7 -> 3.0.8
Hi all.
I originally suspected this problem was with netbios (which I have
disabled by default) and Jerry has helped me out a bit with but I've
been doing some more digging and I think the problem lies back further
than I expected.
I was trying to upgrade from 3.0.7 to 3.0.11 so I've recompiled all
versions back from 3.0.11 and the problem first occured in 3.0.8. The
issue is with

Hello,
I'm trying to join Samba 3.2.0rc2 with Windows 2008 domain.
Net ads join returns:
Failed to join domain: failed to set machine spn: Operations error
Tried to use ktpass and keytab, but it also failed. Tried googling failed to set machine spn, but got no results.
What else could I try ?

BAD SIG[nature] errors from XP client
Greetings,
I've set up a Samba 3.0.23a PDC on Fedora Core 5 and joined a
couple XP clients to the domain successfully. However, when I start
using the Samba PDC's "homes" share from the XP client, I eventually
get errors such as the following:

Signing problem with trusted domain in 3.2.0
Hello
I seem to be having signing problems with 3.2.0
I have 2 PDCs on 2 different sites (say A and B) both running 3.2.0, with
the line server signing = auto in smb.conf. There is a one way trust (B
trusting A) setup.
While everything works correctly on both sites for local machines access
to local shares (a site A user logged on a site A machine can perfectly
access shares of site A PDC). The

ZFS shadow copy patches
I was wondering if there was any news on the patches proposed by Ed Plese
last year regarding updates for shadow copies to be better compatible with
Solaris ZFS:

Reviewing the release notes for the upcoming 3.2 release:

disable '_' to '/' replacement in %S for default service configuration
We've been using a fairly old version of samba for quite some time to serve
user home directories and group project directories with a configuration
approximately like:
-----
[global]
default service = groups
[homes]
path = /export/user/%u
[groups]
path = /export/group/%S
-----
This has worked out very well, the samba configuration is minimal, and does

ZFS ACL''s broken over NFS
As is altogether far too common an occurance, we were having a problem
where a file was not inheriting the correct ACL, but rather a horribly
munged one resulting in incorrect permissions and security problems.
It appeared something was chmod''ing the file after creation, but despite
best efforts we simply could not find the culprit. After much
investigation, we determined the ACL was

ZFS ACLs/Samba integration
I''m currently prototyping a Solaris file server that will dish out user
home directories and group project directories via NFSv4 and Samba.
I have samba configured and integrated into our local active directory,
with ACL mapping working. I''m a little confused as to the behavior of the
ZFS ACL though.

XP and ACL info
Hi,
I have an XP machine, I have turned off Simple File Sharing and have assigned an ACL to a share.
I can mount the share like so
[root@bk1 ~]# mount -t cifs //192.168.1.64/BK_TEST ./TMP -o username='test'
Password:
[root@bk1 ~]# ls ./TMP/c*
./TMP/cv_tbx.doc
But I would like to get the ACL info in linux so I try this but it does not work.

enterprise scale redundant Solaris 10/ZFS server providing NFSv4/CIFS
We are looking for a replacement enterprise file system to handle storage
needs for our campus. For the past 10 years, we have been happily using DFS
(the distributed file system component of DCE), but unfortunately IBM
killed off that product and we have been running without support for over a
year now. We have looked at a variety of possible options, none of which
have proven fruitful. We are

DCE Patch
Hi all.
I am submitting a patch that adds DCE authentication and credential
attaching. Fully legit, no ugly hacks ;)
I looked (some) at Paul Henson's <henson at acm.org> patch for
ssh-1.2.20 while coding.
The patch [attached] is against pre14, but DCE and AIX patches for pre15
will follow shortly. I threw in this patch just to prove i'm working on it.
:)
Happy Hacking,

SMB Signature verification failed on incoming packet!
I am running Samba 3.0.9/KRB5 1.4 on Centos 3.4 on x86 with security = ADS in a Win2k3 domain. I have successfully used kinit to authenticate, joined the domain, and wbinfo -g/-u/-t return the expected results. However, when I try and access the samba shares from a Win2k3 box, it fails telling me I don't have permissions to access the share. Needless to say I am thoroughly perplexed. I have
