I wanted to use the sambaBadPasswordCount to limit the amount of failed logins on Windows clients within our SAMBA Domain. I created the following attributes within my ldap server:

another question about account locking
Is there a way that we can increment the samba bad password count, when a user fails a password on a linux system? I'm looking for ways to get both Windows and Linux to simultaneously lock out accounts if they fail so many times. We're using an LDAP backend.

LDAP backend for a stand-alone server
I'm sure I'm missing something in the configuration or am misconfiguring
the ldif. Regular linux accounts authenticate fine looking at the ldap
but not samba accounts. When I try to map a drive, it just returns
"Incorrect password or unkown username". I have ldap running on a
seperate server from the samba server.
I get nothing in the messages logs on the samba server,

SAMBA 3.0.8 Authentication/Configuration problems with LDAP (SunOne Directory Server 5.2)
Q#1. What SAMBA related object classes and attributes I must add to a
POSIX user in LDAP (SunOne DS 5.2) before it can be used by SAMBA for
authentication?
Q#2. Why does the SAMBA log for the user show the error ?FAILED with error
NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD? even before the user is prompted for username and
password on the SAMBA client? Also in this log, I saw another error ?NT

Fedora Core2 / Samba / Ldap / smbldap-tools - No account in Domain.
Sorry for the cross lists post, but my problem seems to involve several
areas, and one may be affecting the other.
Problem:
When logging on with a Windows XP client to the Samba domain I get the
error :

ldap backend failing
Hi,
I have an ldap provider and consumer that appear to work correctly,
EG, new users are sync'ed and a search on either server (ldapsearch -x
-b 'dc=example,dc=com' '(cn=djohn)') returns an oject. However when an
XP user attempt to connect to the consumer server the authentication
fails:

openldap: replica consumers and ppolicy overlay values
I'm trying to setup OpenLDAP on CentOS7, in a provider/consumer
relationship. In general, provider/consumer is working quite well,
except when it comes to password policy.
Specifically, I want PwdFailureTime to be written to the provider from
one of the front end consumers when appropriate.
I'm lead to believe this requires:
a) ppolicy_foward_updates TRUE (done)
b) an appropriate

Getting netbios alias to work
Hi
Need to setup netbios alias on a server. When users connect to sunone they
reach home and some other shares. suntwo is a archive share.
I can't authenticate against the pdc on sunone and suntwo. Ask for user/passwd
on each netbios alias. Connecting to sun10 works. If i switch to shared on security
and guest ok this setup works. When connecting to the aliases i get:

Samba 3.0.24 + LDAP - User Lockout not working
Hi,
im trying to setup a password policy with samba and openldap. while
lockout works perfect on openldap it looks like it does not work with my
samba.
Ive set "sambaLockoutThreshold" to 3 and "sambaLockoutDuration" to -1
(lockout forever) within the Domain-Object in LDAP. So i expect whenever
a windows user does 3 false logon attemps his samba account will be

samba(3.6.4), with LDAP backend and sambapasswordhistory issue
We would like to have password history working in our setup which is samba with Sun Directory Services 7.0 on the backend. Everything else seems to be working ok, but I notice that the sambapasswordhistory entry for any particular user is filled with 0's.
If I set the password for the account, then it's 16 0's, followed by a copy of the password hash, and the rest 0's.

ldap guest account mapping looks broken
I'm running the samba-client-3.0.20-0.1 SUSE RPM. I was using the
version that came with 9.3 but upgraded to see if this specific
problem would go away.
Guest access does not appear to be working correctly, and it looks
like the problem is due to guest not getting mapped into the LDAP
query correctly.
Specifically, I can login with local account, join workstation to the
domain, browse

Can't get password policies (bad lockout attempt) to work on Samaba 3 + OpenLDAP
Hi,
I have a Debian stable (woody aka 3.0) machine. I am moving my
existing samba 2.x installation (that has users stored in smbpasswd)
to samba 3.0.4 with LDAP as the backend. I am able to move the users
to LDAP just fine. However, the password policy of bad lockout
attempt does not seem to work.
I installed the samba deb file from the samab.org site. I also have

samba3+openldap:Problem during the LDAP search
Hi,
I'm trying to use samba3+openldap as our PDC.
I installed the server using CentOS4.4 single service CD and then use yum
install openldap-servers to install openldap server.
I already ran "smbpasswd -w secret".
When I invoked "smbpasswd -a root" the following error showed up:
[root@localhost samba]# smbpasswd -a root

Error setting initial password for a user when using LDAP as backend and trying to set Samba and Unix password to the same value
Hello,
i?ve some problems setting the initial password for Windows and Unix
User with Samba configured to use LDAP as backend.
I?ve attached the configuration files and the errors.
Creating a new user with net rpc user add "xyz" is working without
problem. Using for example GQ as LDAP browser, i can see the account and
also getent passwd is showing the entry. I?ve activated ldap

LDAP/PDC migration to Samba4
Greetings, All!
I'm planning a migration to Samba 4 (for a long time, I admit, but I only
recently got a promise of funds for a new server... whew...), but I'm a little
in the dark on how to arrange whole process.
Right now, the situation is imagined as follows:
Server A: LDAP/PDC/Samba3/NAT/DHCP/BIND/everything else.
Server B: New installation, x86_64, Samba4, would-be-replacement for

Samba beta3 w/LDAP as a PDC
I'm trying to setup a samba PDC and I seem to be missing a few pieces in the
puzzle. I've reached the point where I've tried joining an XP workstation to
the domain (yes, I've applied 3 changes to the registry that have been
mentioned numerous times on the list). The domain join appears to work fine -
I get back a nice box from the Windows machine welcoming me to the domain.

would like to use samba3 pdc, no ldap account backend db, but use ldap for authN
I'd like to:
1) use samba3 as a PDC, and
2) not use LDAP as the account backend database, and
3) specify samba to use but use "encrypt passwords = true", and
4) use an ldap server as the authentication source for samba.
Is that possible?
I'd assumed it would be given that samba is pam-aware, and I can tell pam to use ldap for authN.
However, the man page for smb.conf seems to
