FW: smbd *not* breaking hard links when saving files
Hi Tim et al., Yes, I can see that the new behaviour would seem like an 'optimization', possibly especially for large files, in that it saves the unlink operation. was (quasi): unlink, open(write), write data, close now is (quasi): open(write, truncate), write data, close However, this old behaviour enabled my rather nice hard link copy (cheap!) local backup. The question is, is the

sleepy disk drives
Hi, I'm having a grief with Seagate FreeAgent Pro drive connected to CentOS 4 box via USB. The problem is that drive is factory configured to take a nap (spin down) after some 15-20 minutes of inactivity, and there doesn't seem to be a way to disable it. Since it's USB connected, hdparm can't be used on it. Getting the drive out of the case is not an option either, since it

NFS sleepy woes
Hi all, I have a problem with a CentOS 4 and now updated to 4.1 server, every so often the other servers try to contact it and this not there a retry and it is, like it goes to sleep, I have no problem with the fedora1, RH9 and slackware machines they just never do this. its most annoying.. they all use IP's not names. all access lists are identical, all hosts files are identical, all

Hi All, I'm trying to migrate from an NT4 domain to samba-3... sorry this is so long... when I run the "net rpc vampire" I get errors for users and machines in uppercase or contain uppercase chars. I'm in a test env before I go live! I'm on a gentoo distro w/ shadow. useradd FOO errors, this might be the culprit... I set up some dummy accts and made them members of

samba 4.0.6 getent group
Hello all listies. I've got samba4.0.6 running on FreeBSD 9.1. Joined W2K12 domain as member server. running getent group I noticed it takes a long time to resolve groups. The result is correct, but it is inordinately long. With 3.6.13 on FreeBSD 9.1 the return is nearly instantaneous. smb4.conf looks like this. [global] workgroup = TMS3 security = ADS realm = TMS3.COM encrypt

Need Help Getting Windows XP To Use Samba Properly[Closed]
Unfortunately we're not able to install more software of radically change any configurations. We also do not use LDAP (just a workgroup, hosts file, static IPs and Samba). But those are good ideas, I'll keep them in mind just in case. Major thanks. :-) Bob -----Original Message----- From: tms3 at tms3.com [mailto:tms3 at tms3.com] Sent: Thursday, December 30, 2010 12:45 PM To:

FW: Need Help Getting Windows XP To Use Samba Properly
Takahashi, thanks for your response. No antivirus software is installed, firewall disabled completely. I might have to go the sniffer route. But this is XP and Samba, both old products. I can't imagine that I'd be the first one to have such a ridiculous problem trying to get XP to be able to browse a Samba box. This is fresh WinXP right out of the box (with SP3) having this problem,

Nor does the DNS name as it can have more than one DNS name. You need to work with Samba as a somewhat separate entity. It is simply easier to match

FW: making BDC samba + ldap server
Is this Samba 3 or Samba 4? If samba 3, which ldap server are you using> What is the mail server? Does the mail server have its own LDAP server included it or is also using an external LDAP server. If you want replication between LDAP servers, they should be the same type of LDAP server (e.g. OpenLDAP or Apache Directory Server or Oracle Directory Server.) If you have one
