Hello, list, Anyone running a recent version of samba4 as the only one AD controller in the domain, *in production*? If so, what is your overall experience? I am going to make such an install for a site with some 50 users (and frankly speaking, I am frightened ... so give me some courage!) Would you recommend me to go ahead and do it? Latest release? Any feedback is more that appreciated

Thank you all for these detailed answers. This size happened on DC where the import were done. Database with Samba 4 was always significantly bigger on this host than on the replicated ones. Hi, If I understand the MS documentation right a Windows desktop uses DNS (or WINS) to determine a DC and then connects to the ldap udp port 389 to get further details about the DC. I do not want to run a full DC but only a "simple" Heimdal or MIT kdc for Browser Negotiate authentication. Does Samba include such a standalone ldap service which just returns the only supported

Just thought I'd say that samba4 is working quite nicely. Samba4 DC on Ubuntu server. Added a W2k3R2 and W2k8R2 server as DC's. Took a little bit of play to get it done, but not much. The only thing I've noticed so far (still in early lab stage) is a GC issue. Now if I can upgrade a Samba3-LDAP domain.... Cheers, TMS III

Hi list I recently encountered errors while trying to backup the samba4 AD. Apparently tar had some problems with sockets in the samba4 directory. I modified the samba4 backup script, perhaps this or a similar change is good to include upstream?
