reverse name resolving of winbind 3.4.x
Hi all,
I did upgrade from samba 3.0.28 to 3.4.1 on a domain member server. Now it seems there is a problem with reverse name
resolving of winbind.
The tools "ls" and "getfacl" shows UIDs instead of the usernames. When I run id "<username>" the username and the UID
are shown correctly. After using "id" the name is also listed fine in the output of

ERROR: failed to setup guest info.
OK, I had this working a few days ago, but have evidently changed
something that I cannot locate. Someone hit me with their 2x4.
Samba 3.0.22, Fedora Core 4, ldapsam (OpenLDAP 2.3.24).
smbd will not start, with the "ERROR: failed to setup guest info" error (I
have "guest account = guest", which is a valid user with correct info in
LDAP):

/etc/grub.d/09-xen for generating grub.cfg for hypervisor boot entries.
If this has already been done, please forgive me. However, if not, I''d like
to submit this as a mechanism for generating a bootable grub2 stanza for
hypervisors.
As the /etc/grub.d/* files rely on defaults in /etc/default/grub, I added
the following Xen specific variable:
GRUB_CMDLINE_XEN_DEFAULT="console=com1 115200,8n1 dom0_mem=512M
dom0_max_vcpus=1 dom0_vcpus_pin=true

problems with VFS_FAKE_PERMS
Hi,
I want to use the module VFS_FAKE_PERMS for roaming profiles. When I use the option "writeable = yes" (see config [1]) the user profiles are write
back the server (but they shouldn't, right?).
If I delete the writeable-option (see [2]) windows brings an error when logging off:
"Windows cannot update your roaming profile. Possible causes of this error include network

Understanding Documentation about BDC in HowTo Collection
hi list&john,
i read in the documention about BDCs:
The domain SID has to be the same on the PDC and the BDC. In Samba
versions pre-2.2.5, the domain SID was stored in the file
|private/MACHINE.SID|. For all versions of Samba released since 2.2.5
the domain SID is stored in the file |private/secrets.tdb|. This file is
unique to each server and cannot be copied from a PDC to a BDC; the BDC

Problem while log on: Windows Server 2008 R2 in samba domain
Hi,
I have a strange problem with a Windows Server 2008 R2-System as a member of a samba domain (Samba-Version on PDC: 3.4.12).
Join was successfully, but when I log on Windows I got an error "Unknown user name or bad password." (Event ID 4625).
Here an abstract of logfile for Windows Server 2008 R2-System (log level 10). Maybe some of you has an idea:

LDAP smbpasswd help needed
Hopefully, you can help me out.
I'm trying to figure out why I'm getting the error I get. From the
debug output, it looks like it's adding the objectClass to the user (so
they can get the sambaSID attribute attached to them), but it's not
actually happening.
The schema is, obviously, in the LDAP server in question.
Any thoughts?

Adding additional groups to a file.
Hi,
I have installed and configured Samba as PDC with Heimdal kerberos and
openLDAP as backend for both on debian lenny. But i stuck on groups.
I have created a file in my home directory mapped to my documents. I can
change rwx permission on linux and windows and it works perfectly. but this
file has as a group my default group. this file should be read by users from
accounting and managers

smbpasswd not attempting to use LDAP
I've only got LDAP configured as a passdb type in my smb.conf, but
samba appears to be completely ignoring that and creating an
/etc/samba/smbpass file (full output of that at the bottom)
my smb.conf has:
ldap admin dn = "cn=Admin,dc=byramhealthcare,dc=com"
ldap ssl = off
passdb backend ldapsam:ldap://ldapmaster.byramhealthcare.com
ldap delete dn = no

UNIX vs. AD group permissions
We've just built a RHEL 5 ES server to test the issues we've been having
with group permissions since 3.0.23 (re: 3.0.23d UNIX vs. AD group
permissions) and we found we have the same issue with the Redhat built
rpm of version 3.0.23c.
The following is the ldap and winbind portion of our smb.conf, the same
as used on our current Solaris production servers:

Setting loglevel for specified clients?
Hi all,
is there a possibility to set the loglevel for just a few specified clients?
With more than 500 clients and "smbd: 10" our log partition (~ 15G) will be filled in a few hours.
Thanks

DFS share: free space?
Hi,
is it possible, to use DFS and show the correct values of free space?
I set up a DFS-share located on filesystem1 (size 50GB) and linked shares of another server to this share
(msdfs:<fs>\share):
share1: size 110TB
share2: size 50TB
share3: size 20TB
But connecting to the DFS-share, the disk size of this network drive ist 50GB. Unfortunately files larger than
50GB can not be copied

ACL problem with Samba > 3.4.x on GPFS
When a file is created with samba 3.5.x or 3.6.x, it is created effective read-only:
~ # getfacl Microsoft\ Word-Dokument\ \(neu\).docx
# file: Microsoft\040Word-Dokument\040(neu).docx
# owner: root
# group: 11816
user::rwx
user:11582:rwx #effective:r--
group::rwx #effective:r--
mask::r--
other::---
The ACL-settings for the parent directory are ok:
