Lots of "smbd/vfs.c:reduce_name(985)" in log.smbd
Hi. I subscripted just now to the mailing list, but I've been using a Samba file server (PDC) on Debian for about 2.5 years now. Users are almost all WinXP SP3. No users are complaining but since I changed everything to one share with group permission on underlying directories I see a lot of errors in log.smbd. Anyone knows what the log message exactly means? I guess it has something to

Group member can not delete files - only dir (775) owner can
Hi there, I have a problem I can not solve myself. I have samba 3.0.28 installed on a Ubuntu 8.0.4 server. Samba is a member of AD. Authentication is kerberos, user- / group ids are handled by nis (Windows 2008 SFU / NIS Server). My Samba config: [global] write list = admin,rado,@Administratoren deny hosts = 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 client schannel = No allow hosts = localhost,

Problem with listing a share
Hi, I have a strange problem listing a share with, e.g. # ls -al /path/to/share I have a samba-client-3.5.4-68.el6_0.2.x86_64 on a Scientific Linux 6 (as a virtual machine - if it matters) and an samba-3.0.33-0.30.el4 server on a RHEL4. Samba 3.x problem setting up DFS and XP2
Hi, i tried to running Samba 3.0.9 with MSDFS under Linux 2.6.9. The normal sharing of Directories to the Target-Server (also Samba with same version and Linux) run's without problems. Only the dfs-share to the same Samba-Server is not usable. The Share-Name self is visible but without cointain. I have compiled the new source with the "--with-msdfs" switch and have also check the

Directory perms not visible from Properties|Security on clients
Samba 3.0.7, XP Pro SP1 clients When I view the "Properties|Security" tab on a folder from my XP SP1 clients, the checkboxes indicating the various permission settings are all empty. The share is functioning fine otherwise, permissions are OK when inspected from the Unix side. Does anyone know a work around (or fix!)? This came up back in 2003, without resolution:

net rpc share allowedusers fails half the time?
Hi all, [Please CC me in reply, I'm not subscribed] We have a weird situation on one of our shares, net rpc share allowedusers fails with NT_STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR. Normally the command is run with the password passed on the command-line. If we manually type the password or turn up the debug level, it works. If we turn up the debug output but direct the output to /dev/null or to a file, then

Client-side filesystem tree corruption on WinXP
The first symptom of this problem was that when saving a Word document to a samba share, the document simply disappeared. After some debugging, I discovered that there was a peculiarity in navigating to the share point in WinXP. Navigating to the share point using the file manager, to C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Desktop\MyShare gets me to the remote files, as it should. But if I try to

Cannot rename directory - Samba acting two different ways on identical systems
Ubuntu Samba server running Version 3.4.0 Most windows and OS X clients connect with no issues. Permissions are working correctly on shares and umask settings are working on Window 7, OS X, and XP. The annoying mystery here is that these little bugs are annoying users and taking up precious time... Most recently, Mac1 (OS X 10.6.5 smb Version 3.0.28a-apple) is able to change a directory's

suggestion: directory promotion to filesystem
Not sure how technically feasible it is, but something I thought of while shuffling some files around my home server. My poor understanding of ZFS internals is that the entire pool is effectivly a tree structure, with nodes either being data or metadata. Given that, couldnt ZFS just change a directory node to a filesystem with little effort, allowing me do everything ZFS does with filesystems on

S4-Winbind dumping core on password
Samba4-winbind (sernet-samba-4.0.9) on RHEL 6.4 dumps core on password authentication for a domain user (su/sudo), and so domain password authentication fails.? The machine is a standalone server in a Windows AD (2008R2) domain. PuTTY logins using GSSAPI work fine, kdestroy/kinit succeeds with AD password, but su'ing to the userid from a puttty session fails. The issue seems to be related to

Permissions problem with Windows Vista / 7 clients, Debian Samba 3.4.7 server
I'm having a very strange permissions problem with Samba 3.4.7 (installed via backports.org) running on Debian Lenny: If a Windows 7 or Windows Vista client tries to use Windows Explorer to access a user's home directory with permissions 0700, the client gets a permission denied error. If the directory is made world readable, it works. (For one user, group readable also works. For

Error with ACLs and follow symlinks=no
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 We had 3.0.2a which worked fine. If you tried to open a file that the ACLs wouldn't let you, you'd get access denied. We had follow symlinks=no in smb.conf Now with 3.0.8, and no other changes, we get a message about "The file has moved or otherwise gone away," instead of access denied. And we get this in the log file: [2004/11/16

Samba 3 joined to samba 4 - problems with permissions on S3 server
Hi all, I am testing samba3 joined to a samba 4 domain controller. Most things appear to be working okay - just not printer drivers and file permissions. Machines can join the domain and use resources on the Samba 3 server, etc. I can change permissions to my hearts content on the Samba4 shares, just not Samba3. I cannot however set any permissions on shares or add printer drivers to the Samba

Fw:ldap access domain AD failed on 4.7.6 and 4.8.0
Hi, I want to use samba as AD on SLES 11 SP3. And I can make samba 4.5.x into some rpms which works well. Recently I try to build samba 4.8.0 using my spec file which works well on samba4.5.x. But when I test these rpms there is a problem. When I use ldap to access the domain to query some domain info, it remains me the directory service is not operational. This problem also appears in

Samba 2.2.5-1, Error Creating Directories
Hi! This is a really weird problem, I hope, someone can help me out there. First of all, I put my smb.conf on the web, you can find it here[0]. The Sambaserver (ESS-LINUX) is just an ordinary workstation (in the terms of SMB) and uses the PDC (ESS_SERVER) for authentication (see "password server"-directive). Nearly everything works fine. Each authenticated user gets his home-directory
