I don't think I can run 2 PDCs on the same Domain , right ?

Re: Moving samba PDC to new machine (unable to change domain SID)
So, I followed these directions and got errors in log.nmbd regarding
"domain_master_node_status_fail". There were still entries for the old
server's ip address in connections.tdb, gencache.tdb, locking.tdb and
sessionid.tdb, so I stopped samba, deleted them and restarted. All was
well.
I then changed the SID using "net setlocalsid

dsync connection issue
I'm trying to move from my exising server to a new site. In preparation
for this I've set up the new server as per the first attachment.
I've added additional (temporary) setting to the new site as per these
instructions
https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Migration/Dsync
but when I try to do a backup with the following command from the old to
the new site
sudo doveadm -D -o

Profiles and samba servers
I seem to have my new server running fine. I do have a problem with my
Windows Profiles though. I logged in as a local admin to copy
user_oldserver_profile to user_newserver_profile, but I cannot do that
since it shows the profiles from the oldserver as unknown.
I am only going to copy a few of the admins profiles and the rest I am not
worrying about. I see a couple of ways of doing this. I

apache httpd, webdav, ssl - something is wrong, but what?
Hi,
happy new year!
Today I set up a new web(dav) server for our .ical-System (phpIcalendar)
and copied the config and data files from the old server.
But somthing is wrong with the configuration and I'm blind to find the
error.
On the old server, I can still publish my calender from e.g. Apple iCal
at the server URL with http

Understanding Documentation about BDC in HowTo Collection
hi list&john,
i read in the documention about BDCs:
The domain SID has to be the same on the PDC and the BDC. In Samba
versions pre-2.2.5, the domain SID was stored in the file
|private/MACHINE.SID|. For all versions of Samba released since 2.2.5
the domain SID is stored in the file |private/secrets.tdb|. This file is
unique to each server and cannot be copied from a PDC to a BDC; the BDC

A totally different approach (that is imap-server agnostic), providing
that you're setting up those new accounts with temporary passwords
(which you know), before users change their passwords to their liking:
you could also use imapsync ( https://github.com/imapsync/imapsync) . We
here use it with a batch file and a text file containing all accounts to
do mass-migrations, usually at

rsync directories that match a string
Hi,
I am trying to rsync the "new" folder for all my mail users from the old
server to the new server we have.
Basically I want to copy all files from
oldserver/home/$USERS/Maildir/new to newserver/home/$USERS/Maildir/new
where the $USERS represents all the user's home folders.
this is what I have tried but its not working:
rsync --dry-run -vaxuHS \

What's wrong with WARLOCK?
Just kidding. If you don't like it, change it, but do expect problems.
It's not something you will find a recipee for in a How-to book.
The SETLOCALSID changes only the LOCAL SID, not the
GLOBAL SID, for which we would probably need SETGLOBALSID.
When I faced the same problem, I did something really wrong
but it worked. I copy-pasted the LOCAL SID to the

Changing domain name
Hi,
For reasons best known to the IT admin before myself, we currently
have a domain name of WARLOCK. I want to change this. We have about
15 WinXP Pro client machines on the domain as well as a few linux
domain clients.
A bit of reading shows that it should be as simple as doing a net
getlocalsid, making the change, followed by a net setlocalsid.
I started doing this when I noticed something

Samba PDC, LDAP and permissions
Hi all,
I have a Samba PDC running on OpenSuSe 10 with LDAP as the backend and am
running Mandriva 2006 as a member server with a few shares for users.
The PDC seems OK and I've added the member using the instructions in the Samba
example documents and I'm at the following point:
OpenLDAP is running on the PDC itself. I can login to Linux as any LDAP user
account suggesting that NSS

net getlocalsid returns hostname as domain && net rpc vampire fails
OS : Suse 9.2 up to date with Samba 3 and openldap
Goal :I want to migrate from Windows NT to samba 3.
WINPDC : name of the Windows NT PDC
LINBDC : name of the Linux BDC
WINNTDOMAIN : name of the domain on WINPDC
I set up smb.conf to act as a BDC, openldap is running well with a
structure ready (I used smbldap-populate from smbldaptools)
I used "net setlocalsid" to set my LINBDC SID
