Samba 3.3.4-31 ssh/winbind login failure
Folks,
Got an odd one here that's had me scratching my head for a few days! Samba
3.3.4-31 from SuSE's RedHat repository, RHEL5 on x86.
Compiled OK once I'd worked out how to force a build on the libraries I
needed, I also added the code back in to support the 'winbind: ignore
domains' directive in smb.conf. Discovered the hard way that 'make install'
doesn't

Samba 3.0.28 buffer overflow
Folks,
Came across a reproduceable fault with HP's latest version of Samba which
is based on 3.0.28 code.....wouldn't surprise me if this has been fixed in
later versions.
Did a new install last week on OpenVMS 8.4 for a customer to run his CMS
on. We can write several thousand files no problem, but when it comes to
manipulating the modified date on each of the files samba will choke on

Samba 3.6.23 joining Win2K12 AD
Folks,
I'm trying to get said Samba version connecting to a new domain controller.
Previously it was v3.0.33 talking to a Win2k3 DC.
Smb.conf is correct with new domain and Kerberos realms, /etc/krb5.conf has
the new info, I can kinit successfully with a domain user but net join ads
fails with:
"kinit succeeded but ads_sasl_spnego_krb5_bind failed: Decrypt integrity
check failed"

XEN Paravirtualized CentOS5 beta on CentOS5 beta
Dear All,
I'm trying to install CentOS5 beta as paravirtualized guest on a CentOS5
Xen host using virt-manager.
Everything seems to go OK. I'm able to run virt-manager and fill-out all
the details. Because you can only do a http/ftp/nfs install when setting
up a paravirtualized guest using virt-manager, I made the whole contents
of the CentOS5 beta DVD available via ftp.
The start of

Missing libexif update for Centos5
Hi,
could it be that the libexif update to 0.6.13-4.0.2 for Centos5
somehow got forgotten? The updates for Centos4 were released nearly
two weeks ago. In the meantime also lots of other updates showed up
for both Centos4 and Centos5, but still no libexif update for Centos5.
Best regards,
Bernd.

cobbler or puppet in Centos5
while i'm on a Centos5 kick, I was just curious if I simply needed to
add a repo or if building these was a matter of waiting in terms of
Centos5. Am trying hard to stay away from Fedora if possible...

centos5: Kopete and ICQ broken
Hi,
Kopete does not show any contact in ICQ...
Will there be fixes for this?
Or do I have to wait for kde-redhat to support centos5?
Thx

mdadm --create on Centos5?
Is there some new trick to making raid devices on Centos5?
# mdadm --create /dev/md3 --level=1 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdc1
mdadm: error opening /dev/md3: No such file or directory
I thought that worked on earlier versions. Do I have to do something
udev related first?

No Centos5 update announcements yet
What about the update announcements for Centos5? There was nothing
posted to centos-announce yet for the updates that have been released
so far for Centos5. Also, the centos-announce mailing list options
page does not know about Centos5 yet.
Best regards,
Bernd.

4.92 beta update to centos5 proper words of caution
For those of you who are going to do the update from the centos5 beta
to centos 5 proper despite the warnings, this is a(n incomplete) list
of instructions for how to accomplish this
1. Get yourself into runlevel 3 (telinit 3 from terminal) as the dbus
update will die if you're in X.
2. Setenforce 0 # turn off selinux as there have been some unconfirmed
reports that it will interfere with the

UML under Centos5
Has anyone been able to get UserModeLinux to work under CentOS5? I've
got an image which works fine under CentOS4.4 but when I try it under
CentOS5 then it hangs just after mounting root
kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
VFS: Mounted root (ext3 filesystem) readonly.
Now, I'd read this was a known issue because of

rsync bug with --relative and --delete fixed in CentOS5?
Yohoo!
I'm using rsnapshot-1.3.0-1.el5.rf (from DAG) and rsync-2.6.9-1.el5.rf (from
CentOS5) together.
Rsnapshot now starts every task with the "--relative" switch. Without this
switch it will backup all subsequent folders (like /proc and so on) which
isn't desired. So I can't omit the "--relative".
But there was a bug for rsync prior to 2.6.9 that it won't

Issues with stat() call on CentOS5 vs CentOS4
Dear CentOS,
I have recently upgraded several servers from CentOS4 to CentOS5 and I am
noticing a strange change to the stat() call. I have written a very
small program to test and show the behavior. I am calling stat()
against a file which is exported from my NAS and mounted with 32k
read/write sizes.
[dougalb at centos4 tmp]$ cat my_stat.c
#include <unistd.h>
#include <stdio.h>

CentOS5 pam_mkhomedir
I have a problem creating homedirs on the fly. Since RHEL5 / CentOS5 you have to
use pam_oddjob_mkhomedir instead of pam_mkhomedir.
Everything is working (the homedir is created) but two things.
First on every logon I get the following error message, and I don't know how to
fix it:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name com.redhat.oddjob was not
provided by any .service files

CentOS5, kernel update and 3ware driver
I'm using CentOS5 64bit on a system with a 3ware 9650SE card.
I installed the OS using the driver disk files provided by 3ware. It
worked fine with the original CentOS5 kernel.
After doing a "yum update", which also installed an updated kernel, the
system didn't work after a reboot, using the new kernel.
I rebooted the old kernel, moved the 3w-9xxx.ko file from

Buggy SATA detection w/CentOS5 + Intel H6300ESB?
I've been handed a Supermicro system that is using the Intel? H6300ESB
Serial ATA Controller (Supermicro P4SCI motherboard). When I install
CentOS5, everything seems to work OK, but it has absolutely horrid disk
performance. Upon further inspection, it seems that the SATA disks are
being treated as legacy IDE devices using PIO. Gah....
Has anyone else had this problem? I recall having
