Samba 3 and Windows 8 Point'n'Print drivers
Hi list,
To my best knowledge samba 3 does not support level 4 drivers used by
Windows 8 for Point'n'Print (If that is not the case could you let me
know the minimal version of samba required?)
According to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/hh852373.aspx
Windows 8 should be able to use level 3 drivers, but it does not seem to
work for me.
Are they any

Migrating samba AD DC from 4.1.0 to 4.7.0 and dns backend change
Hi,
We are in the process of migrating our samba AD (4.1.0pre1-GIT-6be458d)
to the latest 4.7.0 release. In the process we want to switch from the
BIND_DLZ to the internal dns server.
I have done some experiments in our test environment and everything
seems to work ok, but I'm not sure how to handle the dns backend change.
Is it just the case of running

Migrating samba4 dc from an instance with static/external dns to a fresh install with dynamic/internal dns
Dear list,
I want to migrate our existing samba4 dc with a static/external dns backend, to a new install with internal dynamic dns backend.
Given:
DC1 - existing samba4 dc with static/external dns running quite old build (to be updated to version 4.3 before the migration starts)
DC2 - new samba4 dc with internal dynamic dns (running 4.3 version)
What is the best way to do such migration?

unable to join to a Samba4 domain
I'm trying to join a Windows 2008 to a Samba4 domain.
I'm able to ping Samba4 or browse its network shares.
Unfortunately, I can't join Windows 2008 to this Samba4 domain - I'm not
even asked for Administrator password.
Windows 2008 errors with the below message, which roughly translates to:
DSN-query for domain "samba4.my.domain" was successful.

spinning chewing CPU. The logs show:

ktruss shows it getting EAGAIN from sendmmsg(2) over and over again.
According to the man page:

nsd issue
Hi Jean Claude,
The message is printed when the bind operation failed. Why that happens
is hard to say, I'd need more information for that. As the message does
not say: address already in use (or similar), I'm guessing the address
is not configured?
Best regards,
Jeroen

allow-notify SUBNET and request-xfr inconsistency
Hi list,
We are observing strange behavior of nsd v3.2.9 acting as slave DNS server.
The environment is set up as follows:
0. We are using 172.16.0.0/16 subnet;
1. Primary Master server at 172.16.100.114;
2. Slave server at 172.16.100.115. The config file is
in /etc/nsd-dns-slave.conf;
3. There may be also other Master servers im the given subnet.
Now I want to permit DNS NOTIFY messages to

Best practices to switch from BIND to NSD
Hi,
I'm a sys admin and currently working for a french hosting company. We
provide DNS services to our customers and at the moment we are using BIND
on Debian servers. BIND is a good software but we don't need a recursing
DNS for our public DNS, and we needed better security than what BIND provides.
So I made the suggestion to replace BIND by another DNS software.
NSD appears to be the
