Robert,
First off, the Samba Technical mailing list is not a help facility. Its
purpose is purely for discussion of samba design and code implementation
issues. Please confine your email to the normal Samba list.

Starting slapd: /bin/bash: /tmp/start-slapd.K12378: Permission denied
Hi,
I'm running Centos 5, with openldap Version: 2.3.27 Release: 8.el5_2.4.
When I run:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/ldap start
I get the following error:
Starting slapd: /bin/bash: /tmp/start-slapd.l14891: Permission denied
(obviously the temp file number changes every time).
It appears to be a permission problem but I thought I did everything to set
up the permissions correctly...

Samba/Winbind 3.4.4 on AIX 5.3 TL 10 does not retrieve ANY User's Secondary Groups
Hi folks !
Has someone any idea on this issue on AIX 5.3 TL 10 with winbind ?
I'm really stuck now ...
I think everything is working pretty well with WINBIND and AD 2k3 ,
but not my most important point : I absolutely need the Secondary groups of
each AD user which get connected to the AIX to use this filter with sudo...
I only get Primary Group (which is by default "Domain Users"

Using mapped database connections
This morning I switched over my backgroundrb server from development
mode to production mode. After that all I was getting was errors when
attempting to connect to the backgroundrb server. I checked the
backgroundrb_server.log file and noticed the following exception

sudo (+ldap+kerberos) not accepting password
So I have this centos 5.10 box which authenticates network users
against ldap(authorizing)+kerberos(authentication). And I now would
like to have sudo be able to allow admins (netgroup chinbeards) to
sudo about. I am not using sssd though (yet).
Here is the output of me trying sudo (debug on):

pam_ldap and nss_ldap failover
I'm (finally) getting around to putting a backup LDAP authentication
server on my network. The backup uses syncrepl to grab the database,
and to my eyes both LDAP servers answer read queries identically.
I'm testing the client side of this configuration on virtual CentOS 5
i386 machine. /etc/ldap.conf reads

OpenLDAP migration from Centos 5 to 6
I'm moving my home network server from a Dell server,
which has been having some mysterious problems,
to an HP MicroServer.
Everything - MySQL, OpenVPN, email (dovecot), httpd, etc -
except for openLDAP, which is taking more time
than everything else put together.
I haven't found any straightforward instructions
on this anywhere.

Migrating from Centos 5 NT4 style to Centos 7 issues
I vaguely remember some issue where openldap between versions went from
using a single file for config to a multiple file config. I think you
could use the slapcat command to convert.

Deployment problem with Capistrano
I have everything set up that I need - SVN, webserver (Apache2.2),
mongrels, etc. Capistrano is deploying the site well enough, to a
point.
I need to create sym-links to my file-column created content
directories (in
shared) and copy the database.yml file (also from shared) into the
current folder.
I''ve written the following task:

Can you make sure that there is no /etc/openldap/slapd.d/ directory? If
it exists, delete it - otherwise

Migrating from Centos 5 NT4 style to Centos 7 issues
Yes, is working.
Marc, the issue was the slap.d folder inside /etc/openldap/, once I delete
I follow my own manual about migrating LDAP to other server and still
working.
Now, I will continue with samba, thanks guys!!!

I have a RHEL5 Server and some dual-boot XP/CentOS 5 systems (Linux
systems all 64-bit). All Linux is out-of-box, with all packages, minus
international languages, installed. No patching has been done.
On the server, I selected system-config-authentication and enabled
LDAP for User Information, Kerberos, LDAP, and SMB for Authentication, and
