Keeping shares when upgrading to Samba 4
I am upgrading a Samba 3.6 to 4 and wanted to keep my shares and files from the previous version. Will I be able to maintain file metadata in the switch? Sent from my iPhone

Samba 3.6 directory ACLs
I have ACLs working for files with the following set in my share definitions: inherit permissions = yes inherit acls=yes map acl inherit=yes vfs_objects = acl_tdb While testing my Samba configuration, I found that permissions are being set to 'special' for directories being copied from Windows instead of the ACL being fully populated. Does Samba 3.6 fully implement ACLS, or are

Browsing across subnets
I would like to know how to view a samba server on a different subnet than the client workstation resides. For example, I have a Samba 1.9.18p3 server in subnet 'a' and a NT 4.0 client in subnet 'b'. The Samba server does not show up when the NT client double-clicks on the Network Neighborhood. However, if the client does a Find:computer it will find the server, and shares can be

Samba build errors (Derek Lewis)
Jorell, I installed the packages from your list and attempted to build with your configuration. I still get errors during build referring to swrap_close or nwrap_getgrnam. Also I did not use. /autogen.she, just config and make. Derek Derek

UNICAST cross-subnet browsing, Port 445 vs. 139, and Win2k
I have been having a heck of a time getting cross subnet browsing to work properly. After MANY hours hunting through source and debug logs, I have FINALLY found the source of my browsing issues. My Samba nmdb properly becomes the LMB for my segment on a WAN. I VPN to my servers at the home office and Samba attempts to sync with the DMB. nmbd properly locates the DMB via WINS over the

Samba 4 compile instructions
I am interested in compiling Samba 4 and trying the advanced features. I followed the instructions on samba.org to build and compile, though I get the error: failed program.confdefs.h. I have run into this error before, and looking over config log, I see that the build does not see many of the dependencies. Can I modify the build to point to the required files, or at least trace the

problems with login and browsing on 3.5.4 LDAP PDC
I was running 3.0.25c (I think) LDAP PDC for a couple of years and just tried swapping in a new 3.5.4 setup. I had some problems so I wiped all the entries and *.tdb files, and started from scratch. Problem in a nutshell: I can't browse the domain normally, nor can I logon to the domain. However I can access the server shares fine if I point to the server specifically. SOMETIMES this will

Browsing Issues
Hi - I'm having some problems with network browsing using a Samba PDC (3.0.22) and I'd appreciate any hints that might push me in the right direction. One of the problems is that I am on a very crowded subnet that is being used by several different groups. There are a two separate WinNT/2000-style domains active on this network as well as an AD domain controller. Here are the

Slow browsing from Win2k and WinXP
Hi, I have Samba 3.0.14a + OpenLDAP 2.2.24 installed on Solaris 8 as a PDC for serving files only (no profiles, no printing). Performance of network browsing is slow in Windows 2000 and XP, taking 10-15 seconds to open and display the contents of a folder. The same browsing activity from a Mac works fine with no unacceptable delays. I'm trying to sell Samba here, but these delays are

Samba-Cups: all works except browsing when printer is not defined in smb.conf
Cups 1.2.7 Debian Etch with Samba 3.0.24 Clients: WinXP SP3 (with Firewall completely off for testing) When I define a printer specifically in smb.conf, they show up as shared printers in WinXP. But when I follow the normal way (see below) to load all from cups they don't. I followed mainly the latest SAMBA-HOWTO (chapter 21-22) The only error I see in log.smbd when accessing the

Browsing problem
Hi, I've got a browsing problem, I'm searching the error for a long time now so I think betimes it's a bug ;-) For debugging purposes, I've left away everything in the network that's not necessary. There's now only one XP-Prof workstation (domain member) and one samba server (3.0.22, acting as PDC) anymore. Bind9 is the local DNS server; Forward and PTR entries are

Android browsing fails
I have an Android client (x-plore) that was able to see and mount shares from my server until the latest Debian upgrade. I've tried setting client ipc min protocol = NT1, but it still can't browse to the server and can't connect to shares if I supply the address. Is there some browsing/sharing setting that I might have missed in the most recent version? This is Debian bullseye

Cross-Subnet Browsing Problem
Hi all, I've had cross-subnet browsing working in Samba in the past, though I tend to struggle with it each time I set it up. For whatever reason, I can't seem to get things working this time. Summary: Only my desktop, not the file server, shows up in the desktop's Network Neighborhood. (I have left the machines running for several hours, in case there's a time-to-sync issue

browsing problem with minimum protocol SMB2
I have a classic NT4 domain with the PDC also the wins server. With the recent ransomware problem, we're trying to remove SMB1 and below protocols. However when I do this, the browse list is gone. Hosts can access properly the shares, but they have to know exactly \\machine\share in order to to connect. The same thing from a linux client: smbclient -L {PDC} -m SMB2 Domain=[{MYDOMAIN}]

Variable Scoping Problem
I am having some problems with variable scoping. I need to be able to set a variable that is accessable by other methods within the class (or instance) (i.e not global). An example is 2 pages that change a class variable: class AjtestController < ApplicationController def initialize @@variable = "init" end def show @display = @@variable @@variable = "change 1"

I am aware this is fairly simple, but is currently driving me mad! Could someone help me out with conducting a post-hoc power analysis on a Wilcoxon test. I am being driven slightly mad by some conflicting advice! Thanks in advance, Lewis [[alternative HTML version deleted]]
