Newly created files/folders showing up only if I change folders and come back
I've noticed some weird behavior as below. - I created a new folder from my Windows desktop in a Samba server's folder. - Then, the new folder does not show up. - If I go to another folder and come back to the folder in which I created that new sub-folder, then it shows up. Wondering if it has anything to do with my Samba version, a smb.conf configuration, or a chmod

Samba4 and iptables
Hello everybody, I have a running an installation of Samba4 as AD. All is working fine, but when I start the firewall, the clients have problems to login. By my firewall-rules from the past, I had opened the ports 137:139 and 445 for samba and new for bind the port 53. The clients (WinXP) seems to have problems to read and write from/to the home directories. Maybe samba4 need additional or

Questions on Raising Functional levels
Does raising the domain level need to be done on all DC's running in the Forest or just one? How about the forest level? The wiki makes me believe only one is needed. Will rasing the functional levels prevent any samba4 version from joining the domain? I would like to raise my current 2003 level to 2008 to take advantage of the following features. * Advanced Encryption Standard (AES 128

Can't get idmap connected to AD unix attribs
Hi, I'm trying to get an Ubuntu 12.04 system's Samba (3.6.3) and Winbind to map userids and groups to the unix attributes in an AD 2008 server. I can see that when I perform an ldapsearch, I'm able to read the attributes, and for one of my accounts, the id should be 1001. However, when I run 'wbinfo -i <username>', I get back something like 920. At one point, I was

Samba question
All, I'm trying to find out if you can limit Samba to only pull user accounts from a particular Active Directory OU. My AD has over 200K contacts entries for the global address list so I would like samba to only query the location with the valid user accounts. I'm running samba 3.0.1. Thanks for any help/suggestions you can provide, Brian

id mapping
Hi, Today I'm trying to debug a problem on samba 3.5.4 where a domain member server is having trouble mapping UIDs to SIDs. I must admit I never really looked at this before as everything seemed to "just work". Today I discovered that idmap backend on the PDC and the member server were both defaulted to tdb. This means they have independent views of UID to SID mappings I guess.

What if my Windows AD Domain Controller Goes Down?
There are three DCs in my Windows 2003 AD domain, but I have noticed that only one of them is referenced in my krb.conf and krb5.conf. Should there be a reference to one or two of the other domain controllers? If the DC goes down, how will my Samba/Winbind servers authenticate? -- Eric Robinson Disclaimer - February 27, 2011 This email and any files

Samba and Active Directory 2008
I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting samba working with a Windows 2008 domain? I've got mine working for the most part except for UID lookups. I've got identity management for unix installed on on the windows box and have several users configured with custom home directories, login shell, and UID on the Unix attributes tab. My samba server is joined to the domain, wbinfo -u

Samba authenticating against Windows Active Directory
Hello all, I have a question regarding the integration between Samba and the Active Directory (Windows 2008). Current setup: 1. We have been using a Samba server to offer shared folder to the user in my institution. 2. The users have any kind of operational system on their machines, and they don't log in any domain server 3. The users simply map their shares at the Samba server, using their

This is actual for groups as well i.e different id's. *smb.conf*s are identical --

Bash completion file(s) for samba utils...
I was wondering if anyone already had completion files for samba utils like 'net' wbinfo...etc... I can never remember all the params, I keep wanting to hit <tab> to autocomplete for options like I can on many other sys utils. So I started looking at examples of existing completion files and started cobbling one together... if no one else has some (which would be great!), I'll

Dual Authentication: Local and Active Directory
I was wondering if it was possible to get a Samba server that was acting as an AD member server to also be able to authenticate local users, or is stuck just serving AD users? -- Aaron Clausen mightymartianca at gmail.com

Attempts to install a Windows driver from WinPE
One of the things we would really like to be able to do for V2V is to install a new driver in a Windows guest. There are a couple of reasons for this: * The guest may not be bootable without the driver installed, for example because the underlying virtual hardware has changed from vmscsi to virtio. * If the guest can boot, the alternative is to modify the guest to run a script on next boot.

Samba and AD integration
Hello everyone. I am running Samba on a Debian system, and I'm currently getting the following error on the logs: [2011/09/19 15:06:36.708281, 1] smbd/sesssetup.c:454(reply_spnego_kerberos) Username GALILEU-F\bmartins is invalid on this system Being GALILEU-F my Windows domain and bmartins my username.
