Change password via ctrl+alt+del
Guys,
How do I enable the password changing via ctrl+alt+del on a
windows workstation? This function worked on my previous PDC
but I can't get it work on my actual PDC.
I looked at the samba log file of the workstation and I saw
the following line:
"user XXXX cannot change password now, must wait until
never"

Group permission
Hi Guys,
I have a Debian Lenny that acts as the PDC server of my
network. This server has some shares that are accessed for
different groups of users.
So, when an user creates or changes a folder/file inside
that shares, the folder/file has its group changed to the
primary group of the user that have made the changes on it.
How can I determine to which group this folder/file will
belong at the

Changing group membership doesn't grant access when expected
Hi everyone,
Just trying to find a definitive answer on a problem I have been trying to
address for a few months now. I've sifted through the list archives and the
closest thing I could find was something about credential caching and it
didn't seem to work.
What we're trying to do seems simple / normal / common enough that I'm
surprised it doesn't just work.
We have

Periodic regression - lunar percent cover
Dear List,
I am trying include a lunar variable in a model and am having problems figuring out the correct way to include it. I want to convert the percent lunar illumination (fraction of moon showing) to a combination of sin and cos variables to account for the periodic nature of the lunar cycle. Would someone let me know if I am doing this correctly? I have included the first 20 variables

lunar notation in crontab
Crontab offers many refined facilities for Western calendaring, but none
for traditional Eastern-- lunar-- designations. So for example, if one
wants specify regular occurring events on full moons or on new moons,
there is no way to do this. Emacs (a text processor!?) accomplishes
this. The math for calculating lunar calendaring is already available;
mathematical functions are already

Problems making use of 2K PDC
I'm having problems with samba using the 2K PDC.
I've gotten it to successfully join the 2K PDC via smbpasswd. Winbindd
is running and I can ping it. I've tried googling, but was unsuccessful
at finding something useful. The Windows 2K event viewer shows:
The session setup from the computer DATASRV failed to authenticate. The
name of the account referenced in the security database is

Deletion of destination files
Hi to all rsync users.
rsync's `--delete' option works fine in the following example: I'm sending all
the content of /home/rodolfo from machine1 to /home/rodolfo in machine2:
$ rsync --dry-run -vrtul --delete --exclude='/.*' . 192.168.0.2:/home/rodolfo
, and --delete works perfectly. Instead, in this other example:
$ rsync --dry-run -vrt --delete --modify-window=1 file1

Machine account being rejected
I have been running Samba at home as a fileserver for a long time and I
have now been changing it to a PDC (later I want to try switching it to
an AD server as a learning experience prior to doing the same on a
server in work, which is already a PDC).I have got it to the point that
it logs onto the user account but not the machine account.
The local machine is called asus, the user account

From a newbie: how to run MS Word?
Hi!
Half an hour ago I installed wine-20041201 under Mandrake Linux 9.1,
successfully I think.
On my PC I also have a partition with Windows 98 in it, correctly mounted.
I installed Wine with the main purpose of properly writing and reading documents
in MS Word, since neither kword, nor Open Office kwrite nor even abiword
achieve this purpose in a satisfaying way.
Now, probably I haven't

SIP # DTMF
Hi. In creating a custom extension, and dialing
SIP/222/333#444, seems the party receives only "333"
What should I do to send the # symbol? or better, where can I find that
syntax? Googled a lot, nothing.
Thanks!

Final Help on setting up x100p
Hi.
I have installed a x100p (THE x100p for those who have seen my former
post). Now I just want to connect a "normal" phone (not an IP phone) to
the card and use it as a sip extension (I have a FWD account)... more
clearly:
I want to be able to pick up the phone and call any FWD user using my
FWD account... receive the FWD calls in that phone, and also to be able
to make normal
