single stream performance issue, Win2K, WinXP, Samba 3.2.5-4lenny7 (Debian Lenny)
Hello fellow Samba users and devs. This is my first post. I've searched documentation far and wide for Windows, Linux, and Samba, and have not been able to shed any light on this issue. I can't get more than 8MB/s during a single file copy stream out of my Samba server over my 100FDX switched network either from Win2K or WinXP (I don't have a *nix client to test with). The network

Client link utilization
Hello everybody! This is probably going to be a classic question but I cannot find a decent answer on net. I have samba server set up and the following things work flawlessly: - iperf shows 92% link utilization - FTP/SCP/HTTP transfers work in 10MB/s range. However, when I mount samba share with linux client (mount.cifs) the link utilization cannot bypass cca 33%. Transfer speeds constantly

'force create mode' not working when 'unix extensions = yes'
The parameters 'force create mode' and 'force directory mode' have no effect when the option 'unix extensions' is active. The documentation does not report any interaction between the unix extensions and the forced modes, so I'm assuming it's a bug.I'd like to know if it is a known bug ?Has it been solved, if so in which version ? My server runs Debian lenny,

samba doesn't release external usb device
HI all :-) Using debian stable (samba version 2:3.2.5-4 ) often I mount ntfs partition (using mount.ntfs-3g) of a usb external disk. So I can access from my lan to this usb disk. [usb0] path=/media/usb0 writable = yes browseable = no valid users = nick [...] when I finish to use this disk and I try to umount it samba doesn't release this the disk: umount /media/usb0 (or umount

thanks Aki, but with all your advices I've same problem: in the logs always I see the authentication with user and domain name, so dovecot doesn't accept it any idea? thanks! gigE -> 100Mb problems
I've got a pair of identical CentOS 6.7 servers, with SuperMicro X8DTE-F motherboards, these have 2 each Intel 82574L ethernet ports. The eth0 ports are plugged in with 10' runs of brand new cat 5e cable to a Cisco Nexxus 9000 switch (provided by the data center). These servers keep coming up at 100baseT rather than gigE. I've swapped ports and cables with a different server,

is there a bandwidth limit per file?
Hello Everybody! I set up a fileserver: - Pentium II, 350 Mhz, - 256MB RAM, - Intel Fast Ethernet PCI - VIA-SATA Controller - 2x500GB SATA HDD RAID 1 - Debian 4, Samba 3 - Samba set up in user shares mode without special options, but with the suggested optimizations Clients: - Windows XP Prof SP2 So far it works fine. I can read and write files without problem.

Perhaps slightly OT - Lots of spurious webdav requests.
Hello All, I am running a CentOS 4.6 file server for a small office network and I am getting a lot of strange webdav requests from one of the Windows workstations - I have not configured Webdav on the Windows host (hereafter "windows-laptop") in question. Some details - I have configured a Samba share called (say) "share1" on the CentOS server and the windows-laptop connects

Lustre behaviour when multiple network paths are available?
Hi there, When Lustre is configured in an environment where there are multiple paths to the same destination of the same length (i.e. two paths, each one hop away), which path(s) will be used for sending and receiving data? I have my cluster configured with two OSTs with two GigE NICs in each. I am seeing identical performance metrics when I use LACP to aggregate, and when I use two separate

Using lm to estimate a parameter?
Hi, I have a data with three variables (X,Y,Z) and I have an equation as Z=X/(1+L*X/Y) where L is a constant which need to be estimated from data. How should I write the formula in lm or is it possible to fit a linear model in this case? Thanks! Hallen [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Xen and networking.
I have a beefy machine (Intel dual-quad core, 16GB memory 2 x GigE) I have loaded RHEL5.1-xen on the hardware and have created two logical systems: 4 cpus, 7.5 GB memory 1 x Gige Following RHEL guidelines, I have it set up so that eth0->xenbr0 and eth1->xenbr1 Each of the two RHEL5.1 guests uses one of the interfaces and this is verified at the switch by seeing the unique MAC addresses.

./smbpasswd: symbol lookup error: ./smbpasswd: undefined symbol: _talloc_get_type_abort
Hi folks :-) I compiled samba (latest stable v3.4.3) on my debian stable, everything seems ok but when I try to add new samba user ./smbpasswd: ./smbpasswd: symbol lookup error: ./smbpasswd: undefined symbol: _talloc_get_type_abort I already checked useful libreries but I don't understand this problem. what can I do? (samba pre-compiled packages on debian are some grave bugs) thanks
