2008 R2 Failover Clustering using Samba 4 AD
I am trying to see if Hyper-V 2008 R2 Failover Clustering will work with Samba 4 as the Active Directory server. Have installed Samba 4 (version alpha12) on CentOS 5.4. Anybody else tried this before? Please share your experiences here. Thanks, Ajay

Domain Controller GPO
Hi All, I am using Samba4 Alpha12, and i am trying to edit the password policy (which I believe is derived from the PDC's policy), but I am trying to figure out whether Samba4 can respond to GPOs. If It cannot, how would I define the password policy for the domain? Thanks.

about samba failover
Hi all, As many of us, I'm trying to find a way to have a failover solution for a Samba domain. The actual choice has been (because of hardware cost) to have only 1 physical xen-based server (ubuntu 14.04) that do (dom0) : - DHCP server (LAN) - NTP server - firewall - proxy - DNS server Then 4 VMs running for: - Samba Domain controller - Samba Domain member (file server) - Apache2 server -

Why using several Samba4 servers?
Hi! We're trying to figure out the best way to use samba4 in our environment and after testing back and forth we are now left with a question; why would we want to have several samba4 servers? The environment is one HQ with multiple branch offices where each branch office as a network connection to HQ with at least a 2Mbit DSL. The initial idea was to put a samba4 DC in every branch

samba4 AD controller, production
Hello, list, Anyone running a recent version of samba4 as the only one AD controller in the domain, *in production*? If so, what is your overall experience? I am going to make such an install for a site with some 50 users (and frankly speaking, I am frightened ... so give me some courage!) Would you recommend me to go ahead and do it? Latest release? Any feedback is more that appreciated

Domain DFS on new share
Since past the beta-times of samba 4 (and it worked in former times!!) it never worked like this: \\yourdomain\share or \\yourdomain \dfs-share. The only thing working along witch your domain is: \\yourdomain\netlogon. I had another thread open on this case some times ago. Automounting DFS path published shares under RHEL 5 with Samba?
I'm dealing with a Linux environment with extensive automounting, that also has DFS configurations for the Windows clients of various CIFS systems. I've got CIFS automounting working for various CIFS servers, which definitely has its uses, but I'd *love* to be able to mount the DIFS published paths for the CIFS shares? Basically, if I have shares called \\example1\share1 and

Domain DFS on new share
Hi, I am trying to configure domain DFS (I think that's the correct term) as below, using the guide on the wiki: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Distributed_File_System_(DFS)#Configure_domain-based_DFS_in_Samba I am aware that the wiki says that this doesn't quite work... however it feels to me that it's very close, nearly working, and I might be able to get it going (hopefully?!)

Shared directory contained within another shared directory
Hello, I have Samba server running version 3.0.33-3.29.el5_5.1. The Samba server is a member server of a Windows 2003 domain. Winbind provides authentication. We have a physical directory named hr that is shared as "hr" and is accessible to the HR department. A subdirectory of the hr directory named hrshared is shared as "hrshared" and should be accessible to specific users

Sysvol replication
Hi all, Has anyone actually got sysvol replication working between 2 (or more) Samba4 DCs? I've tried gluster, inosync, csync and rsync and keep getting stuck on issues with the extended attributes. Is there a roadmap or any clues of a date when MSFRS or DFS replication will be part of Samb4? thanks again, Jim

Samba 4.0.9 running on centos 6.5 (64bit) share access issues
Hi, We are running Samba 4.0.9 running on centos 6.5 (64bit) with SecureLinux disabled. Having some share access issues, what are we missing to solve this puzzle? We are attempting to get the MSDFS share working. Until we can fix this we cannot continue. This is the Domain provision and dns, and reverse zone setup. Dhcp server set point all clients at samba as primary dns server. Nslookup

DFS root only works for more recent Windows clients
I've been testing DFS roots and I'm finding that while Vista and 2008 Server clients can connect with no problems, Windows XP Pro and 2003 Server clients fail. This seems like it's the wrong way round - Samba usually has more difficulties with recent Windows versions than older ones - but I can only assume that there's some registry/policy change between the versions. If anybody

how to create a backup domain controller
Hello everyone, I am using samba4 as my Primary Domain Controller in my company. But I am concerned if my DC goes down due to some reason then is there any way I can create a Backup Domain Controller or Secondary Domain Controller which can be used at that moment of time so that all my users can login to their respected machines with all the policies. I don't want my organization's work

samba 4 dns-update issue
Hi all, I've setup samba4 according to the samba4 wiki on centOS 5.4 in KVM. This went without any problems. I only had to install a higher version of bind to 9.6.x because Centos bind in repo will install version 9.3.x. I've used the Fedora12 source rpms for this to build bind 9.6.x on Centos 5.4. Then I configured bind according to the samba wiki

msdfs proxy question
Hi List, I am struggling a little bit with the msdfs proxy parameter. I want the samba server as a kind of a bridge between two networks, that the samba server only shares some of the shares provided by our file server to a second network. I don't want the samba srv to be a gw or give the clients a route to the internal network, because it is a total different user group. I first tried to

preexec and msdfs proxy
Hi, Thank you for you input! We tried that already. That, however, doesn't do the same thing. It is then simply a DFS server and not the "magical" msdfs proxy - yes the user can now click on a link to get to the desired spot, but the proxy function _automagically_ sends the user, when they access the msdfs share, to the netapp's readonly share without the extra click. And it

preexec and msdfs proxy
Hey, thanks for the input! I am looking into that. It is however a bit complicated due to the authentication lines and share connect lines being only related due to proximity in the log. It would probably work for most of the instances, but it would not be 100% viable, meaning we would be getting compaints and questions from our user "I ain't got that share?! WTF!!" I was going to

preexec and msdfs proxy
Hi, I was wondering if someone had any thoughts as to why "preexec" doesn't fire when "msdfs proxy" is used?
