FreeBSD-11 Samba44 DNS
Well, I have discovered the proximate cause of why samba-4.4 is not listening on 53. It is because the DNS service dies due to missing files in /var/db/samba4/private/. Specifically dns_update_list. There are a number of missing files in the samba error logs. No such file or directory: '/var/db/samba4/private/spn_update_list' No such file or directory:

Dynamic DNS for Samba domain joined hosts
Dear all I have a Ubuntu 18.04 box with Samba 4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.16 on it. Until recently I only used winbind on it to enable GSSAPI for ssh and Apache. The machine is domain joined to a 2016 based set of AD DCs. I have added a IPv6 static address to the box and want to update DNS dynamically. I installed all of Samba to get "samba_dnsupdate". Prior to this I only needed

Samba4, file permissions not respected
Hi, all, I run the latest Samba4 with Windows 7 clients. I have a share that I created in smb.conf like so: [common] path = /home/pmw/installed/samba/common-share csc policy = manual read only = no Within it, I created a file using a regular user. That file has fine-looking security: that user has full permissions, Everyone has read-only permissions. 'getfattr' on that file

Does automatic DNS PTR generation in Samba4 AD DC work at all?
Hello, I'm currently running a test setup with Samba4 internal DNS (Version 4.1.5 from Debian backports) and 2 clients (Linux and a Windows). Everything seems to work so far. However, I do not manage to get automatic PTR generation working. I'm using the internal DNS at the moment, but I wouldn't mind changing to bind if this will make it work. While reverse DNS seem to work with

[Samba4] samba_dlz problem "loading configuration: already exists"
Hi, I'm new to this list and Samba4, so may be this is a stupid question. I've installed samba4 (4.0.0alpha18-GIT-7b42ceb) on a server in my home LAN and have a problem with samba_dlz and bind (9.8.1-P1). In the zone definition file for my LAN domain, I had configured the IP addresses for several host names (e.g. printer, ...) with "A" records. This worked perfectly fine in

Samba4 - Manage DNS with MMC shows "ghost" Entries
Hi, We wanted to deploy Samba4 in our existing Samba3 Environment. So far everything (migrating the user data etc) went quite well, but after the initial domain-deployment we are seeing ghost entries or random data in our "DNS" MMC snap-in on our windows client. Every refresh triggers a new view. Basically it is the problem/bug outlined here:

ER, you don't actually need to add any extra schemas, it is all built into samba4 when run as an AD DC, if you are struggling to understand this, just think a

[samba4] DNS updates
No replication this morning but FSMO was rebooted yesterday. Only joined DC were rebooted. After verifying all A records related to new DC were created, I forced creation of replication related DNS entries as described there : https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Check_and_fix_DNS_entries_on_DC_joins#Resolve_the_objectGUID_CNAME_record_of_the_new_joined_Domain_Controller I forced replication (drs

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
So only for old NT4 style PDC - BDC environment one needs poledit. While AD's (with virtual pdc role servers) can use the MMC.? We got a pure Samba AD environment and thus it should work. Be it that we might not have all mmc templates (not yet checked that). Thanks Viktor. -----Original message----- From: Viktor Trojanovic?<viktor at troja.ch> Sent: Wednesday 21st October 2020
