AD caching with Samba?
I'm not sure this is possible, I'm sort of leaning to the negative, but I thought i would ask anyway. (I am not a windows or domain networking guy) We have a large (and growing) number of windows servers. Many of them are DCs. While I read Samba can't serve as a BDC to a Windows PDC, can it just forward requests to the windows DC and just cache the results for future look ups? (with

Multiple rate limited networks and transparent http proxy - tricky problem
Hello, We have a box with good connectivity which we divide among several internal networks by having a different interface for each internal network and rate limiting outgoing traffic on each of these interfaces. We are using cbq and a u32 match on the destination to organize the packets. This works very well for us, but there may be a better way, I''m no expert at this! We also use a

Transparent Squid in DMZ
Hi, I want forward port 21 and 443 to my squid. A simply rule (dnat) didnt help me. My http - port (only 80) will forwarded to my squid. It runs fine. Here I have used the HowTo from Tom and the hints from http://lartc.org/. I want to do the same with port 21 as port 80. My network: Shorewall: eth0 net (192.168.108.1) eth1 dmz (192.168.109.1) eth2 loc (192.168.110.1) eth3 loc1

I remember to see something about that in shorewall.net some time ago, but I could not find it today ... The case : Debian Etch, Shorewall 3.2.6, squid3 and Apache 2 . Now I need to setup an Apache server to allow some web mannagement, things like PHPsysinfo, phppgadmin, just for internal net, no web access . but port 80 is redirected to

Transparent Squid and FirewallD : fine-tuning question
Hi, I just setup a very basic HTTP proxy with Squid on a router running CentOS 7. Up until early 2020 I've been using a bone-headed shell script with iptables to configure my firewall. But I decided to follow advice from a few gurus on this list, and I've since moved my configurations to FirewallD, which works nicely. There's one configuration left to tackle, that's port

transparent proxy with shorewall
Hi, I followed the instructions posted on the shorewall web page for transparent proxy, but I still cannot get it to work. I have almost the same setup as described on the web, running squid on dmz, eth1, and the loc on eth2. I can see that packets going out from the fw, they are not sent to the squid proxy, and if I try to telnet to the squid proxy to port 80, where I should be directed to

squid transparent proxy problem
Greetings, I installed a squid 3.1.10.i686 squid to a centos 6.2i686. The proxy is working fine with the default config. After I decided to use it as a transparent proxy, I added two lines to config: http_proxy 10.0.5.1:3128 transparent, always_direct allow all http_port 10.0.5.1:3128 transparent # # Recommended minimum configuration: # acl manager proto cache_object #acl localhost src

Squid to Cache RPMs from yum (was: forcing yum ...)
> > The default config won't cache large files. And yum will try to use > different mirrors every time. > > Aha. I thought I had it set for no file limit, but I guess using different mirrors is what is confounding me. So squid will cache a specific file from a specific site, I guess? And even if it tries to get the exact same file elsewhere, it will re-download it afresh?
