Ghost Create account: procedure number out of range in Samba
Hello, I would like to clone a Windows XP workstation that's part of a Samba domain using Norton Ghost. In Ghost you need to create an account in the domain to be able to add your domain to the list of supported domains by the Norton Ghost console. When I try to add such an account, I get this error message: Unable to add DOMAIN to the list of supported domains, The procedure number is

The single WINS problem: question
hello I've been reading the thread (http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?t=113286376900001&r=1&w=2) and I have the same limitation with WINS in a PDC/BDC. That's why I have the following (experimental) setup: PDC ==> wins support = yes, passdb backend: master ldap BDC ==> wins support = yes, passdb backend: slave ldap I configured some of my XP clients to use both WINS servers

Administering SWAT using userid's other than root...
Hi all... Has anyone got SWAT administration working from other userid's other than root? I've got a rh6.2 box running Samba 2.0.7. I have myself (wkim) in the "domain admin users" and the "admin users". Both the smb.conf file and the swat binarary are owned by root:swat. I'm a part of group "swat". (I'm also a part of group "root" just to

SAMBA-LDAP and variable substition
Hello, Im using Samba and LDAP together and if I use the scriptPath attribute for a user defined in LDAP, it seems that variable substitions no longer work like they did when you're using the global logon script parameter in smb.conf. example: scriptPath = scripts\%m.bat ==> %m.bat is NOT substituted to machinename.bat Because the "logon scripts" directive of smb.conf will

BUG IN SWAT !!
Hello, I think (in fact I'm quite sure) I have found the following bug in Swat. In my configuration I use the global option "invalid users=@class". When I set this option using SWAT, all works fine after "commit changes". Users who belong to the "class" group cannot access the server. But when I erase this value using SWAT and do "commit changes",

Case sensitive password Win95 client
Hello, I need an answer to the following problem: I have a Samba server with domain logons enabled and with encrypt passwords=no. So I don't use the smbpasswd file, only the Unix password files. When I try to logon with a Win95 client (client for Microsoft Networks, logging on to a domain), people with mixed-case passwords cannot logon to the Samba logon server. Those with a password in

Arguments for Samba instead of NT-Server
Hello, Can anyone give me arguments that could convince someone to choose for Samba for file and print sharing instead of setting up a NT-server? Performance ? Stability ? Benchmarks ? Tests that someone has done? Things like: "It's free" or "You don't need a powerful machine" are irrelevant to our administrators. I'm looking for answers on questions like:

sharing word files
hello I'm having the following problem: On a share I have a user with read-only access to word files. Another user has read-write access to these files. When the user with read-only access opens a word file and then the user with read-write access to these files opens the file, the read-write user has only read-only access. If the read-write user opens the word file first, then he has

Smbpasswd and 20.000 users
Hello, I have defined 20.000 users on a Samba-server. The samba-server takes care of domain logons. When several users try to authenticate at THE SAME time the server can't follow: only the first users can succesfully logon. When they don't logon simultaneously there's no problem. For example: 20 users log on at exactly the same time. This situation occurs in our pc-rooms when

Samba 3.0.0 & LDAP: multiple domains logon
Hello, If you use samba 3.0.0 with LDAP authentication, samba uses an ldap attribute "sambaSID" in which the domain SID is stored. When somebody does a domain logon (2000/XP) this attribute is checked. But suppose I would like to login to another domain? Can I define multiples sambaSID's or is this attribute unique? If it's unique, how can I login to multiple domains?
