Sudden unexplained slowness on share (caused by duplicate UID?)
Hi, We have 5 Samba domain controllers, and 4 file servers. All are 4.2.10-Debian. Our file servers have been working fine until recently (on the 26th), when suddenly access to the \\users.store.example.com\user share (hostname p-cats) became extremely slow. Access to other shares on other machines is fine, and users is 128G total (smaller than other shares). The machine isn't under

Windows 10 spawning thousands of child processes on Samba 4.3.11 server
I have 10 Windows 10 clients connecting to Ubuntu 16.04 with Samba version 4.3.11-Ubuntu. Each client has one smbd process, but I notice the number of child processes is exploding into 40.000+ the next day after a restart. I reckon this is not normal. Server load is < 0.1 but client applications are misbehaving and crashing. The problems started when moving from an old Ubuntu 10.04 to a newer

windows 10 locking profile files
I am running samba 4.5.1 on Ubuntu 16.04. The samba server is running as an AD DC and stores the user profiles, the clients are all windows 10 professional. One user reported being locked out of the profile pretty regularly. After investigating the case I saw that a lot of files in the profile are still locked even after logging out and shutting down the system. After restarting the samba server,

Fwd: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED for guest account to public share
Hi list, I'm using samba-4.7.6-r0 and attempting to establish a public samba share where any anonymous user can write to the share. I have an issue where the 'guest' (uid 405) account is unable to write to a directory owned by that uid. If the gid or world writable bits are set, I can write to my share, but not as the guest uid. I need assistance troubleshooting why I cannot write as

Fwd: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED for guest account to public share
Rowland, The 'guest' user exists in /etc/passwd, and there are no users defined in tdb backend. 1. /etc/passwd: guest:x:405:100:guest:/dev/null:/sbin/nologin 2. pdbedit -L -v: ^$ EOL 3. smb.conf updated as suggested - smbclient -U% //share/public -c 'put test1.txt foobar' NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED opening remote file \foobar Modifying the settings as suggested made no impact,

[4.3.11-Ubuntu] SMBD keeps Locks on NTUSER.DAT and ntuser.ini after logout
After having migrated my machines and user to Samba 4.3.11 on Ubuntu 16.04.1 (no domain upgrade, new provision, all accounts new defined) and old data copied over to the new machines, I have now a broader testbed and notice issues I didn't see prior to that. Having roaming profiles (defined in the user object in LDB)... Seemingly at random smbd keeps locks on NTUSER.DAT and ntuser.ini for a

Previous logs deleted from mediafire. Now waiting for any advice from you, or let's

Win7 clients problem after upgrading samba file server to 4.12 on Arch
Did you note the very second you saw the offending error message? That time would help a lot, I can't see the error packet. But all that said, I'm not the person who needs to look at this, I just hoped I could help get you the information they would need. The only other suggestion, other than the build on master in the hope this has already been fixed, is if you do find you can build

I am thankful for all support received so far and I feel I'm getting closer to a solution. Win7 clients problem after upgrading samba file server to 4.12 on Arch
@Andrew Unfortunately I didn't make notes on exact time of errors when doing my tests... But, I've spend last couple of hours on building samba from master: - Have made a clone of the virtual machine, with new name and network interface mac address, and a new dynamic IP assigned by my router. - Uninstalled Arch packages: samba, smbclient and cifs-tools (depending on
