IDMAP dump and restore for second server.
Hello all. I use Samba 3.6.3 on FreeBSD in combination with ZFS, and it all works fine. I use zfs send to receive my store on a backup machine and i want the users id to be the same as on the master server so to say. Keeps my backups easy accessable with samba! Now i know i can dump the IDMAP database using the following: net idmap dump. I expect a whole bunch of lines, but i get the following,

Old domain name an't delete record with tdbtool
Samba V3, tdbsam backend. I've had to change the workgroup name in smb.conf on a Samba PDC (ie, I've changed the domain name). However, the old domain name still shows up in Windows PCs' "Microsoft Windows Network" (together with the new name, which works just fine). I want to remove the old domain name, and I assume it is still showing because it is still present in

Multiple Clients, Winbind and idmap in LDAP, documentation incorrect?
Hi! I have a setup with several Linux machines running samba-3.0.22-10.1.17 (from SuSE 10 OSS), authenticating against an AD. Since one of the machines is exporting an NFS share mounted by the rest of the machines, I need SID <-> uid/gid mapping to be shared between all Linux machines, which led me into using an OpenLDAP server as idmap backend. My smb.conf is found at the end of this mail.

id mapping
Hi, Today I'm trying to debug a problem on samba 3.5.4 where a domain member server is having trouble mapping UIDs to SIDs. I must admit I never really looked at this before as everything seemed to "just work". Today I discovered that idmap backend on the PDC and the member server were both defaulted to tdb. This means they have independent views of UID to SID mappings I guess.

Winbind local idmap and cache database security concerns
I am currently working on implementing unified logons between linux and win computers on an NT4 domain. I have a samba test server with winbind working properly. All is going well, except that I am concerned about the winbind idmap database stored on the local linux workstations. My current understanding of winbind is that it must be on every machine, unless an winbind samba ldap

Results of net idmap dump don't match input to net idmap restore
Greetings, I'm trying to pre-populate a Samba winbindd idmap database with some fixed entries. But the output from "net idmap dump" does not match up to the input to a "net idmap restore" command. Here's an example sequence. ------------- # # wc -l /tmp/usermapper.tmp 1218 /tmp/usermapper.tmp # head -3 /tmp/usermapper.tmp UID 100001

How to regenerate passdb.tdb
Hi, I was having problem with the tdbsam backend in which a particular user got listed twice with pdbedit. (http://www.mail-archive.com/samba at lists.samba.org/msg109110.html) Without much hope in fixing it, I am planning to re-generating passdb.tdb on my PDC by: (1)exporting tdbsam to smbpasswd backend (2)delete passdb.tdb (3)re-import smbpasswd to tdbsam backend With the command `

Domain merging problems
The network I'm adminning was until recently physically separated into two networks, each with a Samba 3 PDC/fileserver, a couple of WinXP Pro workstations, and about ten users. I used tdbsam as backend for both Samba servers. Recently, the networks were physically joined. There were no problems with that, but as one of the servers was ripe for retirement I wanted to join the two domains

What is the equivalent of net idmap secret in samba 4.2 ?
Hi Everyone, The documented command in net(8) for setting the LDAP password appears to have gone away in the refactoring between samba 4.1 and 4.2: # net idmap secret * password Invalid command: net idmap secret Does someone have a pointer to a method to set the ldap auth credentials with samba 4.2? Setup: Domain member server 1 - originally setup using SL7.0, samba 4.1, hosting the ldap

Clarification on a few concepts, for a FAQ I'm writing
Hi All, I am currently writing a FAQ that provides an overview of available options for authentication backends which can potentially be used with Samba. Initially I was looking into these issues for my own use, but I figure that if I document my findings then it may save others some headache :-) From the Official Samba-3 HOWTO: "Samba offers the greatest flexibility and choice of account
