tdb Format
Hello All, I think I touched on this subject on another thread when I was having problems joining a WIN2k SP3 machine to the domain. Anyway, does anyone know of a way to modify machine accounts in the new format .tdb. The old way was pretty simple as it only required one to modify a text file like smbpasswd. I'd like to know what machine accounts I have listed in this file and simply

WINBIND idmap and tdbfiles while upgrading to 3.0.20a
Hello everybody, had anyone of you problems with winbind and tdbfiles, when upgrading from 3.0.14a to 3.0.20a? The Symptom was: After upgrading to 3.0.20a the idmapping was corrupt. Although 3.0.20a runs fine, none of the idmaping was resolved correctly. Downgrading to 3.0.14a "restored" the idmaps. tdbdump showed me the same idmappings, therefor i think winbind wasn't able

IDMAP dump and restore for second server.
Hello all. I use Samba 3.6.3 on FreeBSD in combination with ZFS, and it all works fine. I use zfs send to receive my store on a backup machine and i want the users id to be the same as on the master server so to say. Keeps my backups easy accessable with samba! Now i know i can dump the IDMAP database using the following: net idmap dump. I expect a whole bunch of lines, but i get the following,

3.6.0 winbind issues
Testing 3.6.0 on a member server of a 3.5.8 domain shows some strange problems. With the standard: idmap config * : backend = tdb no results are returned by getent, and wbinfo does not always work, also no winbind_idmap.tdb file is ever created. by changing to: idmap config * : backend = rid or idmap config * : backend = hash results are obtained but are the same regardless of

winbind_idmap.tdb not being updated
A few days ago I upgraded from 3.0.2 to 3.0.9, and since the upgrade, the winbindd_idmap.tdb has not ever been modified, even after several restarts of samba, and reboots of the system in question. It appears that the UID mapping is still correct on the samba server, but I am just concerned that new user additions etc are not being stored to the tdb files. winbind_cache.tdb is being updated with

Can't get idmap connected to AD unix attribs
Hi, I'm trying to get an Ubuntu 12.04 system's Samba (3.6.3) and Winbind to map userids and groups to the unix attributes in an AD 2008 server. I can see that when I perform an ldapsearch, I'm able to read the attributes, and for one of my accounts, the id should be 1001. However, when I run 'wbinfo -i <username>', I get back something like 920. At one point, I was

ADS member.
I have follow an example in "samba-3 by example book", where it explain how to relocate a samba server as ADS member domain, in a sentence it said to delete all /var/lib/samba/*tdb files, so "winbindd_cache.tdb" and "winbind_idmap.tdb" files but when I start the samba server again in ADS new domain something's wrong. Because it is not able to map the same UID and

Samba question
All, I'm trying to find out if you can limit Samba to only pull user accounts from a particular Active Directory OU. My AD has over 200K contacts entries for the global address list so I would like samba to only query the location with the valid user accounts. I'm running samba 3.0.1. Thanks for any help/suggestions you can provide, Brian

Winbind on Solaris
Hi, Just want to clarify and confirm with everyone, If I want my Solaris Samba box to join an AD domain via winbind, I'd need neither krb5.conf nor krb5.keytab, but instead only file I'd need is smb.conf with a correct configuration, correct? Thanks in advance. - Kevin

What if my Windows AD Domain Controller Goes Down?
There are three DCs in my Windows 2003 AD domain, but I have noticed that only one of them is referenced in my krb.conf and krb5.conf. Should there be a reference to one or two of the other domain controllers? If the DC goes down, how will my Samba/Winbind servers authenticate? -- Eric Robinson Disclaimer - February 27, 2011 This email and any files

Samba and Active Directory 2008
I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting samba working with a Windows 2008 domain? I've got mine working for the most part except for UID lookups. I've got identity management for unix installed on on the windows box and have several users configured with custom home directories, login shell, and UID on the Unix attributes tab. My samba server is joined to the domain, wbinfo -u

Samba authenticating against Windows Active Directory
Hello all, I have a question regarding the integration between Samba and the Active Directory (Windows 2008). Current setup: 1. We have been using a Samba server to offer shared folder to the user in my institution. 2. The users have any kind of operational system on their machines, and they don't log in any domain server 3. The users simply map their shares at the Samba server, using their

UID/GID mapping consistency across at least two Linux machines
I have two SAMBA machines they both successfully joined to the same Active Directory (actually SAMBA 4) I have copied the user files from *server 1* to *server 2* /owner id/ and /group id/s are preserved. on server 1, when is do: *id user1* I get *2001* but on server 2 the same user has different id. This is actual for groups as well i.e different id's. *smb.conf*s are identical --
