getent acting unreliable with idmap_ad
I'm trying to get my linux boxes to authenticate to AD using winbind. I
need to get my uid's from AD so I'm using idmap_ad.
I got to the point where 'getent passwd' shows me the list of unix users
from AD with all correct details, however when I do 'getent passwd
<username>' for any username from the list returned by 'getent passwd' I
get an empty reply

Does anybody use idmap_adex?
Hi,
Actually I am using the Backend Idmap_AD. I thought Idmap_adex is still under heavy development.

getent doesn't list my users when using idmap_adex
Hi,
I'm trying to integrate an existing linux environment with a Windows AD
environment. All my users are already in AD with valid rfc2307
attributes defined so I need a way to authenticate my users using
username, uid, gid, shell and homedirectory from AD. I've been using
Kerberos+LDAPs before but that requires a dummy AD user hardcoded with
username and password in /etc/ldap.conf

Here're a step-by-step instructions:
1. Create an empty file with at least 1.5 GB (1 GB is not enougth for saving
games!): dd if=/dev/zero of=DeusEx_Game bs=1024k count=1600
2. Connect it to a free loop-back device: losetup /dev/loop6 DeusEx_Game
3. Create a VFAT filesystem on it: mkfs.vfat /dev/loop6 (ignore the

Deus Ex in Wine - working
hey all, i know it's kind of pointless to get Deus Ex running in wine now thnx
to loki (j/k), but if you have shelled out $$ for Deus Ex winblows version, now
you can run it in wine. I got Deus Ex running yesterday with TransGaming's
(www.transgaming.com) version of wine. I ran it in both OpenGL and Glide mode,
video runs excellent. Mouse input is great as well, much better than the

SIP/Polycom Issue, Asterisk 1.2.16, calls dropped
I've been running the 8/1/2004 Head release up until a little over a
week ago. I was forced to due to a card failure to upgrade to 1.2.16
without any advance preparation or testing (most of my connections
are via satellite to all corners of the globe with high latency).
Up until the upgrade I was running with very few issues. Since the
upgrade I have been experiencing strange issues

When "use kerberos keytab = yes" in smb.conf is set with samba-3.2.8 and

puppetd 0.24.0 on Centos 4.5
Hi,
I was managing a bunch of Centos 4.5 with Puppet until the ruby security
patch bit me creating ssl problems. As I''m not able/willing to patch
the installed version I tried upgrading to dlutter''s 0.24.0-2.el5
version. Unfortunately this didn''t help much. So I removed the server
and client installation completely (making sure to manually remove the

Incorporate a shapefile with an package animation
Hello
I'm working with NetCDF files in an animation and am trying to superimpose
a shapefile on the image as it is generates the html pages.
If I take out the lines for the shapefile, it works correctly, however I'm
having difficultly including the shapefile.
If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate the assistance.

Re: ocfs2 and configfs.ko..fixed...but gnuparted has issues....
I was able to get the source code for ocfs2 and compile it. This worked and created the necessary .ko files
Now I have to figure out why gnu parted 1.6.15 has bugs. when I try a partprobe on a partitioned firewire maxtor drive
mount -t ocfs2 /dev/sdb1 /u01/oradata/orcl
It says no such device....
Any ideas anyone?...

win 2k3 / XP Pro to Samba 3.0.1 open failed, result=-512
I'm having some confusing problems transferring approximately 16GB, in
about 541,000 individual files.
What is happening is that I am starting with a blank destination
directory on a gentoo system running samba 3.0.1, and pulling from one
of two windows systems. The problems come in that each time I use rsync
(version 2.5.7) over samba to keep the data on the gentoo system's side
in sync

pam_ldap problem on an LDAP+SMB configuration
Hi there.
This is my first post to this list, I hope I can help you in the future.
By now, I'm the one who needs help :)
I've been trying to configure a Fedora Core 4 box to use samba + LDAP. I
followed instructions of
http://www.idealx.org/prj/samba/smbldap-howto.en.html but it seems like
I'm having problems on the pam_ldap layer: when I go to step 4.5
