zfsacl problem with share permissions set from Computer Management
I'm using zfsacl on samba 4.6.6 on FreeBSD. File system ACLs work correctly, and Computer Management allows me to set share permissions (permissions are updated and displayed back correctly), but access doesn't appear to honor the configured share permissions. For example, users with file level ACLs that grant write permission are allowed to write even when share level permissions

It appears that when a user has SeDiskOperatorPrivilege they always have full access regardless of the share permissions. When I attempt access using credentials

vfs objects - zfsacl
Looking to see if any one else is having this issue. Running 3.4.5 on
solaris 10 with ZFS file system. When I add the vfs objects = zfsacl,
Windows clients seem to fine but all my Mac OS X clients can no longer
access folders on the share. They can mount the share fine but
permissions are not being followed for Mac clients. "The folder "Name"
could not be opened because you

Group Permissions Not Working
Test 1:
User User1 is a member of group Group1.
Group1 has R-X rights to the shared folder SITES.
When User1 connects to the server over SMB he sees SITES but when he tries to access it he gets access denied.
Logs for the attempt show “chdir (/srv/SITES) failed, reason: Permission denied”
Test 2:
The same user can connect to the server over SSH and access the folder according to the group

Unable to support Unix permissions via S-1-5-88 NFS ACEs for Linux clients
Hi all.
Several years ago, Linux's CIFS kernel driver has implemented two
little-known options, "idsfromsid" and "modefromsid" for Unix
permission emulation. When both options are enabled, the Unix file
user, group, and permissions are stored as SMB ACL entries, and is
translated from, to, and checked as Unix permissions by the Linux
client itself, without server

Can one set the owner of a folder to BUILTIN\Administrators?
I've recently attempted to migrate some windows server files over to
samba 4 hosted on a FreeNAS server.
Using robocopy with the /copyall switch, I expected everything,
including ACL's and ownership information to transfer over. For the
most part they have. The one problem I've ran into however, is that I'm
getting errors any time I or robocopy attempt to change the ownership to

Need help compiling Samba on Solaris
I had limited success compiling 3.4.8 and 3.5.4 on Solaris 10 8/07 x86.
I downloaded the source code from Samba.org and the dependencies from
sunfreeware.com. After some googling and trial and error with the
LDDFLAGS, CPPFLAGS and such, it sort of compiled. I need to know how to
properly set things up. How can I find out what version of dependencies
you need for a particular samba version?

Samba4 bug - "mount error(5): Input/output error"
Hi Rowland,
do you maybe have any idea what could potentially cause this bug?
smbclient thrwos me back a
mount error(5): Input/output error
when I try to mount the remote smbFS. It doesn't happen with my MacOSx
and Windows 7 as client but it happens with Linux OSs and with a Konica
Minolta copy machine with a scanner to samba function. The first try to
mount fails with the above error.

Configuring aio_pthread
I'm trying to learn more about samba by experimenting with samba on
FreeNAS. This involves a certain amount of reading how default smb4.conf
parameters are set in FreeNAS and then reading the manpages for those
parameters.
Async I/O is implemented in samba in freenas via the aio_pthread VFS
module. The manpage for vfs_aio_pthread states:
"the smb.conf parameters aio read size and aio

Samba and ZFS
Hi,
I've recently moved our student fileserver from a Solaris 10 server
that was using UFS filesytems to a new Sun Cluster. As part of the move
I decided to employ ZFS for the filesystem so that I could take
advantage of some of ZFS's features. However, it now seems that windows
does not report the amount of space that the user is actually using, or
the amount of quota left,

problem with files locks
Sorry for my previous email it was something wrong with my email client.
Now is the corrected version:
Hello,
I have a problem with files locks on share. My server is running
FreeBSD 10.2 (amd64) with ZFS pool (raidz) for windows share and samba
4.3.3 (ROLE_ACTIVE_DIRECTORY_DC).
The server has approximately 100 users accounts and computers accounts.

Mapping SID>UID (and reverse)
Hi
I have a new Samba 3.6.10 server running on Solaris 10.
The server is a member of the local Active Directory (which I'll call "DOMAIN" in this email). Unix username resolution is via NIS. All domain users have NIS usernames as well.Winbind is running to allow SMBD to perform sid>uid mapping and I have setup idmap_nss. I am not using winbind in /etc/nsswitch.conf as NIS

networkinterface type proposal
Hi - I''ve searched around and haven''t found anyone who''s implemented a type+provider for configuring network interfaces in puppet. Does anyone have such a thing already running that''s just not on forge / github? I found some prior art (aside from the old ''interface'' type which was deleted in 0.24) but most people seem to use definitions +

zfs acls and MS office applications
I'm trying to use zfs acls in solaris 10. I've looked at past posts
regarding this and some online help, but am stuck. I'm currently using
samba 3.3.9; I've had the same problem with 3.3.7. samba is compiled
and running as an Active Directory member server (compiled with ldap and
kerberos). The zfs disk is local. I'm not using winbind. I compiled
with zfsacl module.
