Can not Rights to users
Hi, I've configured samba with ldap support and all is going well with normal users. I wanted to know how to give special right/privileges to users using any windows tool. I tried to use w2k's support tool (Active Directory Users and Computers) and nt's srvtools(usermgr) but none of these worked. win2k says "can not connect to pre-windows 2000 domain" nt connects and

machine account want use algorithm than sambanextrid
Was questioned before with no answer, but have the same problem: With Samba 3.0.25 with ldap backend, what can i do for using algorithm "rid = 2*uid + 1000", when samba create samba attributes (sambasid) of computer account, instead of SambaNextRid from SambaDomainName entry ? Background: I create a machine account with smbldap-tools. After that a uidNumber was given to the machine.

Conflicting RID creation
With samba 3.0.34 I have the issue described here http://webui.sourcelabs.com/samba/issues/5535 That is "smbpasswd -a joe" gives RID=2*UID+1000 while "net rpc user add joe" gives the value of the sambaNextRid attribute of the sambaDomainName LDAP entry. Also "smbpasswd -am machine" gives RID=2*UID+1000 while directly joining the domain gives RID=sambaNextRid This is

Groups not listed in USERMGR.EXE
Dear list, I'm using samba 3.0.2a on a RedHat Linux server. Samba is configured as being a PDC. When I use the usermanager from SRVTOOLS.EXE on my W2K workstation I don't see any groups listed in the window below the userlist. Also when I look at the properties of on of the user (who is member of more than one group) I only see that a primary group is assigned, the one in /etc/passwd. The

Problem managing user accounts by usermgr
Hi, I'm using samba 3.0.2 PDC with LDAP backend. I'd like to be able to manage user accounts by Microsoft's usrmgr tool (from srvtools package). In my smb.conf are configured functional IDEALX scripts. Additionally I added debug output to start of all scripts which prints current time and parameters of script. When I use usrmgr.exe for creating a new user account I get strange error

rid generation questions
Hello list, I have a few questions to ask... I am about to migrate from Samba 2 to 3 (3.5.9). I am going to use LDAP as backend in the future and came across something I don't understand. As far as I know the 'old' way to generate RIDs for users is to take their uidnumber, multiply it by two and add 1000. For computer accounts it would be 1001 instead of 1000. I am now trying to

Srvtools causes smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root
I am using Samba 3.0.10-1 on Fedora Core 3. Most everything seems to be working as I expect it to except when I try to use the srvtools package to administrate the users and groups in the domain. I want to check and see whether maybe I am just misunderstanding usage as opposed to their being a configuration problem. If I log into my workstation as Administrator, either the local account or into
