The Wikipedia article on Samba only mentions TNG. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samba_%28software%29 Does someone know what I'm refering to and could tell me more? Thank you.

We are using SAMBA 3.6.6 on Centos 5 with the acl_tdb VFS module. Our share is backed by storage on a SAN devices that does not support ACLs or extended attributes ... so we're trying the acl_tdb module as a mechanism to support Windows ACLs. We have verified that samba has ACL support enabled, and ACL support works find if we export the share from the local EXT4 filesystem. When trying to

Patch for changing expired passwords
The primary purpose of the attached patches is for portable OpenSSH to support changing expired passwords as specified in shadow password files. To support that, I did a couple enhancements to the base OpenBSD OpenSSH code. They are: 1. Consolidated the handling of "forced_command" into a do_exec() function in session.c. These were being handled inconsistently and allocated

getting rid of "permission denied" partial transfer errors
Hi, I am currently setting up a backup script for the /home directory of a server. I send all the files on a remote machine through LAN connection using rsync to optimize bandwidth usage. The script is run as root on the server by a cron job but rsync connects to the remote machine as a normal user via an ssh key certificate. This leads to many "permission denied" errors, as the

ACL bug FIXes for get_nt_acl()
Two attached patches for samba 2.2.7a and 3.0-alfa22, that I've made today, fix 3 bugs mentioned in my previous e-mail. 1) For each file in addition to ALLOW ACE proper DENY ACE is created. 2) "Take ownership" is shown DENIED for all except root ACEs 3) Read Permissions and read attributes are always shown as allowed, as they are actually allowed. -- Zhitomirsky

pam_smbpass.so passdb.tdb support
Hi, Recently I have installed samba 3.4.8 on my device. Since then ftp (vsftp,proftpd) which is taking users from samba database with pam_smbpass.so is not working. After enabling detailed log I have noticed it is looking for the passwords in smbpasswd (/etc/samba/private) which is of zero size . I think all users passwd are located in passwd.tdb.I could fix this by giving "passdb

compare st_mode & 07777, or Aix dirs always differ
Under Aix directories have the mode 024xxxx instead of the customary 04xxxx. Because of this when you sync a directory to or from an Aix system it's never up to date. Here is a patch which fixes this. It causes rsync to look at only the bits that chmod actually influences, 07777, when deciding whether or not the modes differ. I was surprised there wasn't an existing constant for 07777,

[PATCH] fuse: UID 0 should override all permissions checks (RHBZ#1106548).
Previously if you were root, and you tried to change directory into a directory which was not owned by you and not readable (eg. 0700 bin:bin), it would fail. This doesn't fail on regular directories because when you are root the kernel just ignores permissions. Although libguestfs in general tries not to duplicate kernel code, in the case where we emulate the FUSE access(2) system call,

Dear Jeremy and samba team , This is suresh from EMC.I am having samba 3.4.8 on my NAS with posix acls support. would like more detail when /tmp directory is missing. patch for linux/syslinux.c
Our linux distribution at my job didn't include a /tmp directory. When ever I tried to use syslinux, I would get the following error: ./syslinux: No such file or directory I modified the code to report this: ./syslinux: Cannot access the /tmp/ directory. This would have helped me a lot rather than having to download the source and run it through the debugger to figure out that my /tmp/
