3.0.23 - different errors on solaris 8 (Error in dskattr...)
Hi,
I just compiled samba 3.0.23 on our Sun Solaris 8 server. 3.0.22 was
running fine and I used the same compiler options for 3.0.23.
$ ./configure --with-acl-support --prefix=/usr/local/samba3023
--with-quotas --with-included-popt --without-ldap --with-vfs
gcc version 3.4.2
GNU Make 3.80
Running make now throws a lot these warnings:

[homes] share not created unless linux user has a home directory in /etc/passwd
When adding a domain user to a samba 3.6 PDC I found that the [homes] share
was not created. It turns out there was no home directory specified in
/etc/password for this user. Once a linux home directory was added the
[homes] share worked, but I would expect this to work anyway since a
different path is being used for windows home directories than for the linux
users. Is this expected behavior

using windows ad accounts for centos 5
Hi I read and used the article
http://blog.wazollc.com/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=2 to authenticate my ad
accounts when logging on to cent 5...however, once I edit the
nsswitch.conf file, I can't even log on as root or any local users
anymore. Kinit seems to initialize fine doing a kinit
username at MYDOMAIN.COM , however doing a getent passwd adusername ....it
just sits there in the shell and

Samba + AD etc.
Hi all...
Im at the stage where:
Kinit works
Net ads join -U Administrator works (I can see the computer in AD)
Net ads user works
Wbinfo -u / -g / -t works
Getent passwd/group works
What I cannot seem to get working is when someone logs onto the domain, and
then tries to map a drive to the samba server, its like the credentials
arent getting passed onto samba, or rather samba is unable to look

Samba and Active directory groups
Hi list,
I have successfully authenticated active directory users with samba. Now I need to create some Active directory security groups and authenticate and redirect those users to a specific directory.
Ex:
IT_GROUP - user x , user y
FIN_group - user a, user b
If the user x , access the samba server, that user will be redirected to the specific directory (that's in the samba stanza).

[quick question] smbclient -m smb2 not working
Greetings list,
I just upgraded to samba 3.6.0 trying SMB2. Though Windows 2008 R2 can work
with SMB2 shares just fine, I'm unable to access SMB2 shares with mount.cifs
or smbclient, even with "-m smb2" specified -- I get this
"Unrecognised protocol level smb2", whereas smbclient comes with
samba-client-3.6.0-63.1.rpm.
So is this supported yet (from client side) or I

smbclient -L succeeded even network is down
Hello list,
Accidentally I found that when network is down "smbclient -L localhost -U%"
became slow however it still succeeded after like half a minute.
This is weird because my Samba server is running inside AD,
Q1. How can smbclient authenticate without talking to AD controller? I think
in this case smbclient at least tried to (reach AD controller), otherwise
shouldn't take it

Is ACL+extended attributes exclusive with mask/mode family options?
Hello list,
I've got a question from reading Using Samba 3rd, where it puts:
... the final permission is caculated by below filters in the order used by
Samba:
1. Apply any DOS attribute mapping options << I take this as
either map DOS attributes to execute bits, or store DOS attributes in
extended attributes. Correct?
2. Apply the create mask settings
3. Apply the force

net join & DNS
Is there an option to the net command to not have it update DNS in AD?
We are joining servers using the net ads join command and it's changing
our static DNS entries to dynamic ones which then get deleted when AD
does its DNS scavenging. It seems that dynamically updating DNS is the
default.
The command we're running is:
net ads join -U adminuser%adminpasswd
Thanks -

Understanding NT_STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND
[For those on both this and samba-technical - sorry for the duplication.
I meant to send this here, but I experienced a user error. :-) ]
I'm having a problem related to the NT_STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND
error and I am having a little difficulty discovering what this means.

Using winbind authentication with Windows 2003 AD - SSH login failures
Hi all,
I have been trying to setup authentication of users on a Linux server
against Windows server 2003 using winbind.
I am at the point where an
su - ADUSERNAME
works, but sshing as that user still doesn't work.
When I try to ssh as an AD user as follows:
ssh -l "RILINUX+testuser" server.domain.com
I get the following output in /var/log/messages:

bug in smbclient (?) 4.2.x
I posted this to the amanda-users ml earlier today, as I run several
amanda backup servers and hit this issue again today.

Does anyone know if this:

Winbind home directory not resolving properly
Hi all:
I've got an issue on one of my winbind-configured systems. I've got
it configured per instructions found on one of ubuntu's forum sites.
I've configured two 9.10 systems, one works perfectly. I've copied
most of the files over to the non-working system; they are configured
identically as far as I can tell.
On both systems, wbinfo -u/-g, getent passwd, and ssh login

File case sensitivity
Hi;
I've run into a somewhat interesting issue in regards to IIS serving

Error when upgrading to samba 3.0.25b: NT_STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND
Hi,
I just upgraded from:
samba-3.0.23d-1
to:
samba-3.0.25b-3
After starting samba, I could no longer connect to any share, I get this
error:
NT_STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND
I builded both samba rpm using the packaging/RHEL/makerpms.sh script
on Centos 4.5
Is there any big change in 3.0.25? I readed all releases notes and
didn't found
any cause for this error.
Thanks

msdfs problems
I have setup samba with msdfs, and configured it. The problem is that it
works with some windows 2000 workstations, but not with others, even if
they are at the same service pak levels.
I.e, I have workstation a and workstation b, both running 2000. On
workstation a, I can map the dfs share to a drive, and be able to access
everything in that share (which is different shares on different

smbclient: Renaming file on DFS root fails with NT_STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND
If a file is stored directly on a DFS enabled share, renaming fails with
NT_STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND.
The usecase may sound unusual, but a customer is using NetApp ONTAP 9,
which by default advertises DFS capabilities for all shares, and he
cannot disable it for policy reasons.
I can also reproduce the issue with smbd and Windows Server 2012 R2
(haven't checked with other versions).

vfs_shadow_copy2 with snapprefix & delimiter options
Hello all,
I already successfully configured shadow copy service without a delimiter and regex. But as soon as I try to get this to work with regex, nothing shows up on the win client.
My config looks like this:
[global]
shadow: localtime = yes
shadow: sort = desc
shadow: format = _%FT%T
shadow: delimiter = _
shadow: snapprefix = ^\(monthly\)\{0,1\}\(weekly\)\{0,1\}\(daily\)\{0,1\}$

home share and user map issue
Greetings list,
Have a situation that doesn't fail but with inconsistent results:
With a Samba 3.5.4 running as AD member, and map an AD user into a local
user on Samba server, configurations are like below:
smb.conf: username map = /usermap.txt
usermap.txt: foo = MYDOM\bar
Then try to access AD user bar's home directory via
1) smbclient //localhost/bar -U
