how a domain user can become a local administrator ?
Hi list,
I'm using Samba wit a LDAP server. Everything works fine, but I'd like
to know how I can declare a user or a group user as an administrator of
the workstation he/she is logged in.
I tried to modify the guid and the SambaSID in the ldap server, but it
doesn't work. Is there another solution than to declare locally on the
workstation that such group must be of the local

winxp roaming profiles and samba group access rights
Howdy People,
I have a problem with roaming profiles in samba 3.0.5 on redhat9 (
installed from the rpm with rpm -Uv samba.3.0.5.rpm
I am not using LDAP ( dont know how and as I am a Netware person on a very
steep learning curve with Samba, didn't want to complicate the
installation after seeing every second posting on this list as a ldap
problem).
The smb.conf file is listed below.

synchronise time
Hi,
in my logon.bat file i put : net time \\admin /SET /YES to synchronise
computer time with the server.
This works when the user who is login in has administrator rights on the
computer.
How can i do with users who are just "member of the domain"? Is there a
way to run this command "as administrator" ?
Thanks for any help

Classification
Hi all,
I have got a dataset like the following:
3
5
7

i.e. random numbers with some repeats.
I want R to classify them for me. E.g. every row that has a value of 3 will
be asigned a value of 1, and every row that has a value will be asigned a
value of 2 etc.
I want R to return the following, using the example above:
1

Thanks in advance.

login scripts do not run
I have a simple script that sets the time on a Windows client at
startup.
The one-line script:
net time \\myhost /set /yes
Works perfectly well when I double-click it from Windows Explorer, so I
don't think the problem lies there.
The relevant lines in my smb.conf file:
[global]
time server = yes
logon script = smbtimeset.BAT
[netlogon]

Asterisk to make multiple extensions simultaneous calls on a single telephone line
Hi Lists,
I have one box with two FXO and two FXS ports, it is running asterisk
inside. I have one sinle POTS line connected to the one FXO and two
phone sets connected to the FXS port.
Extension 6003 is asigned to one fxs and 6004 is asigned to another
fxs, the two extensions can call each other, they can both
make/receive PSTN call, but they can't make PSTN call simultaneously.

How to assign Administrator's rights?
Most of my users (unfortunately me included) need to use a bloated,
badly designed piece of sh^Hoftware that only works with administrator's
rights (I won't say names but it's from a big german company strongly
pushing for software patents).
How can I assign those users Administrator's rights without phisically
going to each machine?
I cold put them in the 'Domain

Caution: "admin users" and roaming profiles
This is information that might be useful to others, as it drove me nuts
until I could figure it out what I did incorrectly.
I recently installed the 3.0beta and moved everything from 2.2.8a. I'm
still in testing mode, so I rejoined the domain the the few test machines,
and have been deleting and rebuilding test user profiles as I check things
out.
The problem I had occurred with the

creating a master share
I am trying to create a master share that contains all the other
shares. I created a group that needs read+write permission to all the
other shares. However, rather than adding this group in each share
configuration, I was wondering if there is a way to overwrite the
permission.
I tried this but gave read-only access. Also in the linux level, I
don't have this master group as the owner. Any

Outlook and roaming profiles?
Hi list,
I'm trying to migrate from a workgroup based Samba server to a domain based
Samba server.
I need the following features
- Roaming profiles
- LDAP based user administration / authentication
I think the LDAP part is mostly doable, though I do foresee some hair
tearing, but my main concern is with the roaming profiles.
Users do not have a fixed workstation and log-on to whichever

Samba 3.4, Windows 7, Roaming profiles and Folder redirection
Hello,
I'm quite new to Samba administration and I've inherited a working samba
setup with roaming profiles however the login and logout times for users has
been growing and I'm starting to think it's time do something about it. I'm
thinking redirect some folders to a samba share on the network will speed up
the login and logout times.
Our setup has 25 Windows 7 workstations

Roaming Profiles only for Admin?
Hi all,
I am currently fighting with roaming user profiles which shall be
stored on an Ubuntu 8.04 Xeon (64 bit) box. I'm running the stock
Ubuntu packages (version 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4). The Ubuntu box runs as
PDC with a LDAP backend.
Adding a Win 2000 SP4 workstation to the domain works flawlessly. If I
log on on the workstation with a root-like account (UNIX user id 0,

Somewhat bizzare share issue
I have 19 servers with this smb.conf share definition working:
[export]
comment = Exported Files
path = /tmp/export
guest ok = Yes
On the 20th server however, this just doesn't want to work.
I've gone through the basics of guest access and permissions more than a few times trying to figure this one out.
Approaching this from another angle, I tried the following

Roaming Profiles:Samba PDC:WinXP:User must be local admin
I'm having a problem with Roaming profiles in Windows XP with Samba as PDC.
I've googled and trolled the mailing lists and read the Samba documentation.
Problem:
User logs onto domain from WinXP client and profile is downloaded (you can
tell because it takes a long time and lights on hub are lit up). However,
unless that user is in the admin group locally, all/some of the profile

Any possibility to apply policies on WinXP machines using samba 3.2.3 ?
Any possibility to apply policies on WinXP machines using samba 3.2.3 ?
In samba documentation in :
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/PolicyMgmt.html
There is references to apply policies in NT/2000 Server and winxp
clients, but it's not clear to me that will run fine or not using
samba 3.2.3+winxp machines.
If exist a way, How ?

No, this does not happen on Windows 2000. Note that I'm still running
Windows 2000 because it runs very nicely under virtualization with only
256 MB allocated to the VM. ;)
