"username map" parameter not working after upgrade to SAMBA 3
I have been using the "username map" parameter for some time on various versions of Samba 2, and it has worked nicely. Last week I upgraded to Samba 3 and integrated with Active Directory. Since I am using Solaris 8, and "nsswitch.conf" doesn't support winbindd, I am using the "add user script" parameter to add users. What is happening is that users in

Map hidden can only work if create mask includes octal 01 (S_IXOTH)
This is probably something simple, but I couldn't find the problem addressed in this maillist. I've upgraded to Samba 4.x from Samba 3.x. I'm just using this for "classic" sharing, not AD/DC. I'm getting an error when I run testparm which I didn't with the previous version (or didn't notice). "Invalid combination of parameters for service public. Map

Package "maps": what is the name of county # 2395?
I am using "maps". I am running the following code to get this list of all the counties: map('county', plot=FALSE)$names In the output, all counties have first the state listed and then, after a comma, the name of the county. However, county # 2395 (State = south dakota) has no county name. Anyone knows what this county is? Thank you! -- Dimitri Liakhovitski

DOS style 8.3 filename mangling issues??!
Okay, I've run through all of the tests in the DIAGNOSE, which my 1.9.18p1 SAMBA server (and NT4SP3/W95 clients) pass with flying colours. server box: Linux 2.0.33, gcc 2.7.2.2, libc 5.4.33, shadow, quota on (usr+grp), and my smb.conf is summarised (by testparm output) below: Problem is this: with respect to programs not long filename-aware/compliant, users cannot "double-click" on

inherit acls not working
To my knowledge the 'inherit acls' option should make new files inherit the default acls from the containing folder... Please correct me if I'm wrong! But when I turn this setting on, it just don't seem to work... In other words, newly created files do not get the default acls from the containing folder... Please advice anyone... [LLVMdev] [RFC] What options should be hidden/not-hidden for opt command
> The logic here is that these flags should only be used by people looking at code. For example, if a pass has a hidden option that controls some knob, you should only find out about it by reading the code. We don't want people surfing through all the hidden options to "see what is available". I see. Maybe we can tell people the existence of "-help-hidden" and also

After upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1.1 my "hidden" private namespaces suddenly aren't hidden anymore...
Just upgraded my home mail server from version 1.0 to 1.1.1 and now I noticed that Thunderbird has started showing the 'hidden' namespaces (albeit "greyed") for that server (see the attached JPG image)... What can I change to really make them hidden again? The only thing I changed in my dovecot.conf file from 1.0 to 1.1.1 was to add the following two lines:

[LLVMdev] [RFC] What options should be hidden/not-hidden for opt command
Hi, all Take the discussion thread [1] as an example. Although "-help-hidden" is not intended to be use by normal folk, I think there should be somewhere notes "-help-hidden" revealing more options which might be needed by developers. I thought it will be a good idea to mention the existence of "-help-hidden" on the web page, but the patch I sent brought some

Samba4 creating users
Hello Rowland, Thanks for the pointer. The good news is I have it working. The bad news is there appears to be a problem. Both machines are on the same subnet. I tried to connect from the win10 1803 box to the nas box which has the netbios name of example2. It took almost a minute before I was prompted for login credentials. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do about it? Again thanks.
