Samba Printing Extremely Slow from Windows XP
Hi,
I have setup samba server on my linux box (Fedora Core 4 with latest
samba, just updated via RHN) and has configured file sharing via samba
for this server and connecting to it from my windows xp box. So far,
everything works fine and it is very fast.
Then, I configured a printer, and shared it via samba. And, I can
see+connect to it from Windows XP and can even print. But, everything

Problems with Windows 2003 connecting a Samba server
Hi list,
I am encountering a problem in connecting a Windows 2003 to a Samba
3.0.21b server. The Samba server is configured to have a security =
share option, so that no password is needed. I can connect to the
server by typing "net use z: \\192.168.51.1\data", and it is
successful. However, if I try to do "dir z:", no file found! Same
behaviour are found in Windows

Samba -> WinXP: slow transfers, partial solution
Hello All,
I'm running Samba 3.0.24 as PDC and file server on Gentoo Linux,
AMD64, 2.6.19 kernel, 100MBit/s network, and experience quite slow
file transfers from Samba to WinXP SP2 clients: the speed is varying,
but is about 1-2Mb/s at best.
I spent quite some time investigating the issue, here are the
intermediate results:
1) This happens only when transferring _from_ _Samba_ to

Very slow file copy performance over a WAN (HELP)
Hi,
I've noticed that over a WAN (T1) I'm getting incredibly slow file
copy performance.
Using smbclient on a linux machine on one size of the WAN,
As you can imagine, this makes all of our file shares unusable over the WAN.
It's not an issue with WAN performance, because using scp to transfer
the same file, I get speeds of ~145k/s.
A tcpdump of the file copy of ~2MB file that actually

Samba 3.2.7 and XP authentication error
List,
Long and confusing message follows...
I'm facing a frustrating problem. XP clients can use resoures on the
samba server by IP-address, but not by name. So, "net view \\servername"
gives "access denied" but "net view \\ipaddress" gives list of shared
resources.
Samba server (3.2.7 sernet rpm) is a member server in W2003 domain.

problems with DFS
Hi,
We have been a samba shop since way back and have used DFS quit a lot the
last years.
When we went with security ads instead of domain our dfs died.
We have tried 3.028(sun) in solaris wich we are leaving and 3.2.1 in linux,
our migration target.
For our 3.2.1 installation the config looks liket this and the problem
manifests itself as a empty share.

Speed vs Windows systems issue
Hello,
I've a CentOS-5 system (kernel-2.6.18-8.1.14el5) SMP arch running
samba-3.0.27a. A user reported extremely long load time (11 minutes) of
a 43MB file across a 3Mb/sec WAN link. Copying the same file to a
windows server and opening it from there on the same client system took
about 2:30.
Research found the below thread from April:

Suspicious activity on domain
Hello,
Last week I have detected with Zabbix that a member of my Samba domain
had been downloading at a rate of around 8 Mbps for two days and a half.
When asking the person to whom belonged the machine, he didn't know he
was downloading anything but he said he had observed his machine had
slowed down since then. I took a tcpdump of the traffic before
terminating his session on Windows

Poor performance on NFS-exported ZFS volumes
I''m seeing some pretty pitiful performance using ZFS on a NFS server, with a ZFS volume exported (only with rw=host.foo.com,root=host.foo.com opts) and mounted on a Linux host running kernel 2.4.31. This linux kernel I''m working with is limited in that I can only do NFSv2 mounts... irregardless of that aspect, I''m sure something''s amiss.
I mounted the zfs-based

Does this tell me anything? Traffic report
I'm trying to get Samba up and running and having a terrible time. It
says that I should be able to run nmap and see that 137 and 139 are open
- which they are not. I have not added any restrictions in smb.conf, do
not have a firewall running and I have increased the log level to 5 to
see all of the messages. It says that it is talking on 137 but it kind
of looks like it's not talking

: Win XP Client does not remove directories
Hello mailinglist,
I have a strange problem, which occurs sometimes on some WinXP clients.
It is not 100% reproducable for me, but it returns regular.
The problem is, that somehow a user can't delete a directory. All files
in the directory will be removed successfully, but the directory itself
not.
Deleting with the Explorer or over the cmd-console returns in the same
result.

Unix Attributes in Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) tool
I am using a Samba 4.1.16 as an Active Directory domain controller.
After a lot of time complaining to myself that my users' properties
sheet in ADUC did not contain the Unix Attributes tab, it finally
occurred to me that I should look again into Windows 7 >> Control Panel

behold, there it is: under

Delay with printer properties
Greetings Samba Fans!
I'm experiencing a strange problem which started after installation of
Service Pack 2 for Windows XP:
When a user tries to print there is a long delay (sometimes around 2
minutes) before the printer properties page is opened. This only affects
Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed.
I did a 'tcpdump' on the printserver and observed something quite strange:
